A tag has been placed on Aleksander Sergeevich Afanasyev requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Aleksander Sergeevich Afanasyev

[edit]

Your article is not suitable for the encyclopedia in its present state, and as you say it is going to take you some time to gather information I have moved into your user space where you can work on it. You will find it at User:Centrocapital/Aleksander Sergeevich Afanasyev. Please read carefully the guide to writing WP:Your first article and the important policy on WP:Biographies of living persons. Note also that if the article is to be kept you need to establish notability, a requirement to have a Wikipedia article, which is not a matter of opinion but needs to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Myspace, Facebook, LinkedIn, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and press releases. Your account name, and answer to your question

[edit]

One of our rules is that accounts must belong to individual persons, not companies or groups, and usernames must not be those of companies or groups. Looking at the LinkedIn entry you cited, I see that your username is that of Mr Afanasyev's company. I regret that I must therefore block this account; but I encourage you to set up a new one, with a different username; though I must again ask you to read carefully the guideline on editing with a WP:Conflict of Interest. Send me a message from your new account, and I will move your draft article into its userspace.

To answer your question on my talk page: there is no contradiction. An article which makes a credible claim of importance cannot be speedily deleted under WP:CSD#A7, even if no reliable source is supplied; but reliable sources are still necessary if the article is to stay in Wikipedia, and without them it can be nominated under the WP:Proposed deletion of WP:Articles for deletion processes, which take longer - usually seven days - so that there is time for sources to be added if they can be found.

Your article, when it was tagged under A7, only said that Mr Afanasyev "is a Russian General Manager". That is not a "claim of significance or importance" - there are probably hundreds of thousands of general managers in the world.

I warned you of the need for reliable independent sources to establish notability, so that you should consider whether you could really find them, in order to save you from perhaps wasting your time preparing an article which would not be accepted. You must understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia - it is not a listing notice-board like LinkedIn. Click on the words "reliable" and "independent" above for more details.

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a few moments to create a new account with a username that represents only you. If your username doesn't represent a group, organization or website, you may ask for a review of this username block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below this message. Thank you.JohnCD (talk) 11:17, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on User:Afalse/Alexander Sergeevich Afanasyev requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free Web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.
