Hello, thank you for explaining. I read everything, but it is a lot to digest. It took, me a while to even figure out how to reply to you and I'm not sure if you'll even see this message.

I did request a new user name of JennieHuerta, but in retrospect, I should have instead requested the following: Jennie Huerta with the City of Cedar Park, Texas, I am employed by the City of Cedar Park, Texas so that is who is paying me to make these edits to the Cedar Park, Texas page. Nonetheless, I am trying to do three things: remove the image of the "Cedar Park flag" (there is no such thing), note that the logo is copyrighted and is the City Government logo, and update our City Council Members. Ideally, I would like to do this myself - but is there anyone who can help me? I have been directed to get this done ASAP and I seem to be having trouble making this happen.

It's definitely a lot to digest, so no worries on that front. I'll try to address your specific concerns as best I can.
  • The flag is sourced to this article by a local NPR station; is this NPR article incorrect, or has the situation changed since it has been published?
  • If you look at the logo's file page at File:Cedar_Park_Texas_city_logo.jpg, you'll see that it has indeed been marked as a non-free file. Such files are only used on Wikipedia under very specific terms, which include a rationale required for each page it's included on. Generally speaking, such images are claimed to be used on Wikipedia under the doctrine of fair use, but certainly we aren't making the assumption that the image is not copyrighted. So, I think your concerns are already addressed on this count?
  • The updated lsit of City Council members you've noted certainly makes sense, so I went ahead and cleaned up that section of the infobox. I hope that's what you were looking for. Writ Keeper  18:32, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Ms. Huerta, I saw your post on Worm That Turned's talk page, and wanted to give some more explanation to a few points.

First, as you'll see above, I've blocked your account from editing. The template above gives some explanation as to why I did that, but I also wanted to drop a hand-typed note here with some more explanation. Your username indicates that this is what we call a "role account"; it implies that it belongs to not you as an individual but whoever is currently working in your position, and if you change jobs and someone else takes over, they would also start using this account. This is not how Wikipedia works, though; Wikipedia requires accounts to be controlled by exactly one person, and it is against the rules to have a username that implies otherwise. This is not a reflection on anything you've done personally, though, just a quirk of Wikipedia rules, so you're free to create a new account as indicated above, one that reflects ownership by you as an individual, not as a role.

Second, your request to WTT indicates that you're uder some misconceptions as to how Wikipedia operates. The subjects of Wikipedia articles have no special ownership or authority over those articles, so your request to become an "admin" of the Cedar Park page is not something that can be fulfilled. There are people who are called "admins" on Wikipedia (I am one, and WTT is another), but that distinction doesn't mean what you probably think it means. First of all, we are not employees of either the Wikimedia Foundation (which runs the servers that Wikipedia is on) or of any of the subjects of the articles we edit; rather, we are community volunteers that have been entrusted with some extra tools to help manage behavioral issues and disputes between other editors. In fact, we, too, have no special authority over the actual content of Wikipedia articles--which is to say, no more authority than any other volunteer editor on Wikipedia. So the concept of "page admin" that you're asking about doesn't really exist.

Third, you should acquaint yourselves with the rules about paid editing and conflicts of interest. Wikipedia doesn't outright prohibit the editing of articles by people who are closely affiliated with the subject, but it is generally strongly discouraged, to help maintain a neutral point of view. Similarly, it is not forbidden for editors to be paid by article subjects for their work on Wikipedia, but such a thing is considered very suspect by the community. At the very least, when you make a new account, you should be sure to disclose your paid-editor status in accordance with the WMF's Terms of Use for Wikipedia. You are also very strongly discouraged from making edits to the article directly; instead, it would be better to make edit requests on the article's talk page (in this case, that would be Talk:Cedar_Park,_Texas); instructions on how to do so can be found here.

Hopefully this will help you contribute to Wikipedia productively and in accordance with the Terms of Use and Wikipedia policies. Thank you. The NPR arcicle is from 12-14-2016, so in answer to your question about whether the situation has changed since that article was published, the answer is yes, it has. On August 8, 2021, the Cedar Park City Council rescinded the flag design. For citation here is the link to the City Council meeting in which the flag was rescinded (see Item F.3 on the agenda): https://cedarparktx.new.swagit.com/videos/30853. We appreciate if you are able to please remove the flag design picture, as there is no Cedar Park flag at this point.

Got it; I found the meeting minutes on the City Council webpage, so I think that tracks, and I've removed the flag from the Wikipedia article, as well. Just so you know for the future, things like the meeting minutes of the City Council make fine sources for uncontroversial, strictly factual information like this. But by and large, Wikipedia considers them to be primary sources, which are (perhaps counterintuitively) not the preferred form for sourcing on Wikipedia. Wikipedia is instead based on secondary sources, such as newspaper articles. This is to try to ensure that Wikipedia is as objective and neutral as possible, since often, primary sources are not truly independent of the subject they discuss. So just keep that in mind, that things like meeting minutes will not always be considered authoritative where Wikipedia article sourcing is concerned. Let me know if you have any more concerns. Thank you for removing the flag graphic. I understand what you are saying about meeting minutes, but unfortunately the flag being rescinded did not get any media coverage - so I do not have another article such as the NPR article that was cited about the flag adoption - to point to. The meeting minutes are definitely the most factual/official information we have concerning this. All said, I would like to know if it is possible for us to please add the following sentence to the paragraph concerning the adoption of the flag in 2016:
