Welcome

[edit]

Hello CecilWard, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! --Angr/tɔk mi 12:50, 10 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Caps and organisms

[edit]

I noticed your changes to various island articles. Someone changed the WP:MOS entry a couple of weeks ago about species capitalisation without any discussion. There was a lengthy debate about this back in 2008. I have reverted MOS to the original and intend to change back the entries at Raasay. I agree it can look a bit odd but there are reasons for it. Happy to talk more about this but must dash now. Regards. Ben MacDui 08:51, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comment. I think that there is still some case for keeping, modified, the suggestion. While it may depend upon the speculative point as to whether tarmac would permanently cease quarrying that specific site, there may be a way of phrasing the potential for an Eden Project in a more encyclopaedic way. Anyway, welcome to Wikipedia. I was at your stage a couple of years ago. Writing exact and informative material is a useful discpline, especially when you are writing about a subject you know, but have to put in all the references to back up what you say. I gave you this:

The Wikilink Barnstar
I hereby award CecilWard with this coveted Barnstar – an award rarely given out for the removal of diluting links – for your services to generally increasing the relevance of links for users, and specifically for edits such as this and this. --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 12:02, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Cecil, I'd just like to point out that you can surround text with pairs of single-quotes instead of using <em> tags. ᛭ LokiClock (talk) 16:19, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I wanted to give you a heads-up in the article on Capital punishment. A graphic placeholder was inserted immediately prior to the section Public opinion and I couldn't tell if you'd intended to add more or it was an error.

Hi. In Professor Green, you recently added a link to the disambiguation page Brentwood (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Universal Life Church

[edit]

FYI - the link to dmoz should be ok, we don't need all those links, if we have them people will argue that every little ULC faction should have a link there, instead of in dmzos where it belongs. Me-123567-Me (talk) 18:33, 4 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks for your note. :-) It's just that I've seen many people edit war over this article, especially over which "ULC" should be covered, and which should have links. The consensus seems to be the main church that started it all should be covered, etc. And we use dmoz to avoid link fights. When the main church gets their website back up, we'll put that link back in. Me-123567-Me (talk) 14:57, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Your recent editing history at Universal Life Church‎ shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. PPPoA Revision Question

[edit]

Hi there, I'm new to editing on wikipedia so forgive me if this isn't how messages are normally sent between users. In April you edited the PPPoA page (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Point-to-Point_Protocol_over_Ethernet) and included references to "PPPoAoE". I don't know whether this is a mistake or intentional but the references that are links are now either dead or link to the PPPoE page. Can you have a look and make sure it's as you intended? — Preceding unsigned comment added by TimHiggison (talkcontribs) 05:16, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
