September newsletter
The newsletter is ready for delivery. It has a lot of big stories, some big things happened this month! Please take a look over it before sending it out, and reword if necessary. Could you please send it out to both the active and inactive members? Next month, we can send it out only to the active members, and at this point it should cut the delivery in about half. --Nehrams2020 06:27, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

24 September semi-protection of Aristotle
There was no discussion of this; may I ask if you could unprotect the article or explain why its protection is necessary? I would like to see the article unprotected because it, like the whole of Wikipedia, has a history of receiving valuable contributions from anonymous users. Yes, like every article on a very famous topic assigned to bored students, it also gets its share of anonymous vandalism. But it is well watched by established editors who are glad to do the work of taking the vandalism out. Wareh 19:57, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hello, hope CB doesn't mind me answering... the edit history shows a lot of vandalism, and he was correct to protect it at the time. Often, vandalism goes unnoticed, and Wikipedia gets complaints from the public, which is no surprise. Semi protection simply removes the ability for anonymous users/new users to edit. Since the most recent history shows that all such edits were unconstructive, it was the right thing to do. Of course, it is up to Cbrown to decide whether to unprotect or not. – Aillema 20:07, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
- Don't mind you answring at all. :-) Cbrown1023 talk 23:24, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
- Just to be sure a couple of relevant facts are mentioned:
- (1) Vandalism has not gone unnoticed long at this article.
- I am sure Aillema was referring to vandalism in general.
- (2) This article has materially benefited from anonymous contributions, even if these edits are hard to discover in the busy article history.
- That is the same for all articles on Wikipedia, however we still see protections every day.
- Some consideration should be given to the suggestion made in the article "Who Writes Wikipedia?";
- That has been refuted.
- missed opportunities for knowledgeable participation are a more serious long-term loss to the encyclopedia's quality than vandalism. Respectfully, Wareh 20:18, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
- I do not protect all articles, but when we get a few complaints about one, I will protect the article accordingly. Thank you for posting this, though, I'll add an expiration of 5 days from now. Cbrown1023 talk 23:23, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
- Well, at least it will expire. Thanks for that. The "refutation" makes it clear that more conclusive analysis is needed; anecdotally, I've certainly seen good work from IP's, and good-faith IP's turn into good registered editors. Wareh 23:37, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with you here, whenever I see an IP contributing well or reverting vandalism, I make sure to put a "
{{subst:anon}} ~~~~
" and "Thanks for..." on their talk page so they realize that they are appreciated for the good that they do. Cbrown1023 talk 00:10, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Reconsideration of Deletion: Ronna Herman
I saw recently that the article Ronna Herman was deleted. Details on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ronna Herman. I have noticed her more prolific on the web and on several TV shows after the deletion date March 18th, 2007.
Recently this year there have been more infomation and shows that Ronna herman has aired on. Several Episodes of Bridging Heaven & Earth Show #31 & #55 also VirtualLight Broadcast Mar 31 2007 Seg 2 and 3 with notable Wikipedia Article Subject Steve Rother. Copies of these broadcasts can be shown on YouTube.com.
When googled she lists 36,400 entries, just short of the 40,400 for Steve Rother, and many more than the 2,020 for Elizabeth Clare Prophet who also has a wiki page.
Ronna Herman is listed under "Famous Psychics" on the internet page http://www.trans-formers.com/famous-psychics.html. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Trickse (talk • contribs) 20:08, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Ronna Herman is also listed on the Michael (archangel) wiki page.
Is there a review process that can revive a wiki entry for Ronna Herman, speaker & author?
Trickse 20:04, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, there is, you can post your request on Wikipedia:Deletion review. Cbrown1023 talk 23:18, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

thank you for responding to the complaint of vandalism (the whole article was deleted). You wrote "Please do not completely blank the page because of that, just rewrite it" I would like to know to whom you were communicating and where the first part of this communication could be found. Thank you Mike Reardon 03:35, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
- Please put posts on the bottom of the page, thanks. The person who removed the whole article said that he was did so because it was not written in the neutral point of view. I was addressing that user who reverted (and all those who felt the same as he) that the article should be rewritten and not blanked if it is not written in NPOV. The newsletter is back! Many things have gone on during the past few months, but many things have not. While the assessment drive helped revitalize the assessment department of the project, many other departments have received no attention. Most notably: peer review and our "workgroups". A day long IRC meeting has been planned for October 13th, with the major focus being which areas of the project are "dead", what should our goals be as a project, and how to "revive" the dead areas of our project. Contribute to the discussion on the the new channel (see below) We decided to deliver this newsletter to all project members this month but only those with their names down here will get it delivered in the future. This is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue. Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned or post news on the next issue's talk page
Lastly, a new WikiProject Biography channel has been set up on the freenode network: Our thanks to Phoenix 15 for setting it up.

Wikimania 2008/Conference of the Americas
Hello, As you may or may not know, Alexandria, Egypt was selected to host Wikimania 2008 [1]. So as to prevent the hard work of the many Wikimedians involved in the Atlanta bid from going to waste, we have decided to host a conference for the Americas. This is in no way an attempt to compete with Wikimania or make a statement against Wikimania.
As one of the people signed up to help with the Wikimania Atlanta bid, we hope you will join us at the Wikimedia Conference of the Americas. We will be having a meeting tonight in IRC tonight (Oct 15) at 9:30PM in #cota-atlanta on irc.freenode.org to discuss the conference. For more information about IRC see [2].
For more information about the Wikimedia Conference of the Americas see http://www.cota-atlanta.org and our wiki http://www.cota-atlanta.org/wiki.

ArbCom clerking
Hi, CB. I see you are closing Digwuren, which I think leaves you off the board in terms of cases you are currently clerking. If you want to pick up a case, I'll be glad to reassign you one of mine, since I will have less time for clerking when the election process starts next week and I'll be busy answering candidate questions. It probably would make most sense for you to take Ebionites, because the parties have been away and the submitting of evidence hasn't really started yet. If you want it, just let me know. Regards, Newyorkbrad 18:13, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Reporting of Digwuren arbcom outcome
Could you notify the affected regional noticeboards, too?-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk 18:48, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Could you also notify Ghirlandajo and RJ CG, since they were also explicitly a subject of the "Findings of fact" section. Martintg 19:24, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- Anyone is free to notify other noticeboards or users of the decision, you don't need to be a clerk to do it. Feel free to add the summary, or just a link to the decision yourself. Cbrown1023 talk 22:20, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- On second though, I've decided to notify all three of the pages you two mentioned because they probably should have been there in the first place, however you are still free to notify anyone else if you feel I have missed someone. Thanks! :-) Cbrown1023 talk 22:23, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- Neither Digwuren nor Petri, who were both banned for a year, are the chief protagonists on the larger stage (the RfA in question arising out of Estonian-related edits and behaviors). That said, I am hoping that improved oversight will mean that clear provocations will be dealt with summarily. After a certain level of provocation has been reached, requesting that editors simply not respond in kind (and their continuing to comply) simply invites even more provocation looking to reach a breaking point--and then retaliation.
- What is the appropriate method/forum for reporting future violations, since the wider ArbCom decision impacts all Baltic/Eastern European articles? I assume it's a RfA, I'm just looking to confirm. PētersV 16:55, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- P.S. On the proposed decision detail page where there's some concern on the part of one of the ArbCom members about inserting the Balkans et al. into the oversight milieu as part of the Eastern European "controversy" (my quotes), having participated there (though less), it can be just as contentious. PētersV 18:38, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- There are two different remedies involved here:
- if a user uses Wikipedia as a battleground, that user should be reported to the Arbitration Committee;
- any user "working on topics related to Eastern Europe, broadly defined, may be made subject to an editing restriction at the discretion of any uninvolved administrator. The restriction shall specify that, should the editor make any edits which are judged by an administrator to be uncivil, personal attacks, or assumptions of bad faith, he may be blocked for the duration specified in the enforcement ruling below. Before the restriction shall come into effect for a particular editor, that editor shall be given an official notice of it with a link to this decision." This means that any user who does any of the outlined actions can be blocked by an uninvolved administrator and it does not need to be reported to the Arbitration Committee (though it should probably be logged at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Digwuren#Log of blocks and bans).
- I hope this helps. Cbrown1023 talk 20:27, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, thanks! PētersV 20:33, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

PētersV 18:38, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- I did not issue the notifications myself as the allegations of canvassing are only too common in the related issues, and I am sure if I were to notify the Polish noticeboard, somebody somewhere would criticize me for it (heck, I am probably going to be criticized for asking you for the notifications here...). Sigh. Thanks, -- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk 21:20, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Arbitration enforcement is also an appropriate place to raise concerns about compliance with this or any ArbCom decision. Newyorkbrad 10:44, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
- Having expressed my own distaste for actions taken by editors against editors, my retrospective look at History of Moldova after rewriting a section to avert further warring, led me to post at Wikipedia:Arbitration enforcement to determine if, in this one case, the end justifies the means. NYC meetup change of schedule
You've expressed an interest in the upcoming New York City Meetup for Saturday, November 3. I'd like to update you on an important change of schedule.
- It's been agreed that we should have a 2-hour formal meeting period to start organizing meta:Wikimedia New York City, and this will be held at the Pacific Library (note this is different from the Brooklyn Central Library, which was discussed earlier) from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM.
This will be in addition to the previously scheduled roving activities at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden (this activity has also been cut short a bit) and at the Brooklyn Museum. For full details, see Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC. Ask any questions at Wikipedia talk:Meetup/NYC. Thank you.--Pharos 21:11, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, I will be in Los Angeles at the time and unable to make the meetup. However, I would love to be informed of how your Chapter discussion goes. Cbrown1023 talk 21:53, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- I might be able make it to Philadelphia for the next meetup, and we can exchange chapter ideas then I hope.--Pharos 19:47, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
