Your username

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created DePaul College Prep, and I noticed that your username, "DePaulCollegePrep", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually (not your role), such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. Alternatively, you can just create a new account and use that for editing. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. win8x (talking | spying) 15:15, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, DePaulCollegePrep. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page DePaul College Prep, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Secretlondon (talk) 16:43, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:

  1. Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  2. Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  3. Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  4. Provide a new username.

To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Secretlondon (talk) 16:46, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

Hi, I'm new to Wikipedia and have never edited anything before. I am trying to update the Wikipedia page to be correct and current for the school I work for. DePaul College Prep is NOT Gordon Tech High School and I want to indicate that in my edits. I apologize for not correctly following the rules, as I am trying my best to do so. I will do better going forward if you unblock me. I've also requested a new username as I didn't know that my initial username was not aligned with your policy. This is purely ignorance on my end and I appreciate you taking the time to read this.

Decline reason:

I have renamed you, which resolves the username issue. See WP:COI. Your paid disclosure has been moved to your user page. You will need to tell us what will change about your editing in the future(see below) as well as if there are any other topics unrelated to your conflict of interest that you might edit about as a general contributor. We usually like to see people in your position first edit in areas unrelated to their conflict of interest, as a demonstration of their understanding of relevant policies, before permitting them to indirectly contribute in the area of their COI, otherwise doing so immediately is usually a waste of time for everyone(including the editor). However, you may attempt to persuade us in a new request that you understand relevant policies and how to edit with a COI now. 331dot (talk) 09:19, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved your paid editing disclosure to your userpage, which is the appropriate place for it to reside. An admin will evaluate your unblock request when one becomes available.
In the meantime, it would be beneficial for you to learn the process of making edit requests, which is the preferred method for editors wishing to make changes to articles with which they have a conflict of interest. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 06:18, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
