The article about you

[edit]

You asked here about the fate of the article about you. I just deleted the page for two reasons: Firstly, it was created by an editor the Wikipedia community had agreed to block due to undesirable behaviour. If such editors evade their blocks, those so-called "sockpuppets" can be reverted on sight; articles they create can be deleted. Secondly, the article about you was quite problematic and largely not based on reliable third-party sources. I have doubts about the reliability of some of the reviews you provided on the talk page; others clearly were reliable sources but did not provide much - or any - information about yourself. Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Carol Smallwood. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Carol Smallwood, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. JudgeRM (talk to me) 16:26, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I would encourage you to re-read this section and take it to heart. If you have any questions about our policy on conflicts of interest please drop a line on my talk page. Cheers. --Adam in MO Talk 21:58, 18 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Carol Smallwood and Vchimpanzee, i have had a look at the book review site Compulsive Reader, and decided against adding the Prisms, Particles, and Refractions review to the Carol Smallwood article. i am concerned that the review and the site may not meet WP:SOURCE (i know there are wikiarticles that have included review(s) from this site, if i came across an article with one i would, at the very least, remove it from the article to the talkpage with a query/voicing my concern), it appears, from its Do You Want to Submit a Review? section, that anyone can submit a review, as long as it is "analytical, specific, and quite detailed. Plot summaries or reviews that are little more than promotional blurbs won’t be accepted.", also that "Although we are unable to offer monetary compensation for your reviews and articles at this time, we will provide all contributors with a generous author bio including unlimited links. Regular contributors are also featured in the “Who are We” section of our site and are offered a selection of books to review, on approval." that could raise WP:COI and WP:PROMOTION issues.Coolabahapple (talk) 10:47, 10 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm at home and it may be a few days before I can check out the references you asked me about.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 18:48, 10 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I don't feel entirely confident evaluating these myself. There is WP:RSN if you want to ask people who know.

The ScarletLeafReview URL posted above is incorrect. It should be http://www.scarletleafreview.com/non-fiction4/vera-gubnitskaia-book-review-interweavings-creative-nonfiction-by-carol-smallwood. That being said, I am somewhat leery of using that review as a reference, the reviewer - Vera Gubnitskaia - has edited at least 3 books with Smallwood (see Amazon's Vera Gubnitskaia page) so there would seem to be some measure of possible COI in that instance. Speedy deletion nomination of Article talk page

[edit]

Hello Carol Smallwood,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Article talk page for deletion, because it seems to be a test. Did you know that the Wikipedia Sandbox is available for testing out edits?

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

The first link is a press release, the second your publisher, the third a bookshop. None of them are reliable third-party sources, and they should not be used on Wikipedia, neither as sources nor as external links. Huon (talk) 00:45, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Carol! First of all, thank you for not editing your own page. We really appreciate it. The Help-Me service is really for editors looking for assistance edting Wikipedia. For users who want to request edits to pages you should really use the Edit Request Wizard. That will ensure that your request goes to an editor who does this kind of maintenence. --Salimfadhley (talk) 00:08, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Carol, It seems unusual to include publisher and ISBN details for works listed in an author biography, but for consistency with the other list items, I have added this. Verified based on the listing at the publisher's web site, not the review which merely has a link to the former.  Done. I couldn’t find the book on WorldCat, does North Carolina not have a library deposit scheme for books published in that state? Pushcart nominee in Wikipedia?

[edit]

Hi, Carol,
Your blurb on Main Street Rag says "a multi-Pushcart nominee in Wikipedia".[1] Can you enlighten me about what that means?

Well, I found Pushcart Prize, but since Wikipedia doesn’t award that prize, the wording sounds wrong. Would you contact the publisher to have it amended? Pelagicmessages ) – (14:02 Sat 28, AEDT) 03:02, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
