PS- Sorry about the stink I caused. Your guys are quite correct about GBR usage by IOC and ISO. Forgive my naivety and stubborness, here's hoping the boxing organizations reunite, so as there's one true champion (per division). GoodDay 21:58, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

This is a comment by GoodDay, posted on my discussion page, regarding the issue with Vintagekits and me. Greetings, claudevsq (talk) 17:05, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Could you delete this nonsense? It'd save the trouble of WP:AFD. Or do you think discussion would be best? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 05:51, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

To be honest I rather not touch it, the article's subject is completely unfamiliar to me, but it doesn't seem really notable, perhaps it should be redirected. - Caribbean~H.Q. 05:58, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
O.K, Thanks I don't think we have officially met , so hi lol. how does his ip change? <font-family:"Tahoma">Vote 4 Pedro 15:00, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Latino (demonym)

Hello, Caribbean. Could you please talk to Edgar over at that article. I've told him we need to resolve our differences via discussion, but he seems to be itching for an edit war. SamEV (talk) 03:20, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Can you provide a little more detail about what is this about? I took a quick look and it seems like its a matter of ubication. Anyway, if he insists in reverting without discussion I will issue a cool down protection. - Caribbean~H.Q. 03:30, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
He wants his pet definition of Latino in the lead. Problem is, his source (http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?search=latino&searchmode=none) is unlike the others, which are established dictionaries, of long standing. His is the work of an individual, a historian, not a linguist. I'm basing my stance on WP:V, with its requirement that sources be by experts in the relevant fields and peer-reviewed. At least, those are the best sources. I'm not against keeping his, just not with the others in the lead. (Well, since it's from a non-linguist, maybe the source doesnt belong at all in the article.) SamEV (talk) 03:45, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
Ah, its quite obvious that "Latino" is not only used for Latin Americans living in the US, I remember having a simmilar (although friendly) conversation about this some time ago. Lets keep the current definition, this source is quoting a 1946 book, like most terms "Latino" has evolved in the last half-century. - Caribbean~H.Q. 03:56, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
Oh... I didn't even know it was based on a 1946 book! It keeps evolving, and many definitions are given in the lead, so long as they're from qualified sources. It's an article about a word, I told him recently. So we need the best works of reference in linguistics. Thanks. SamEV (talk) 04:18, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
P.S. Actually, I do remember seeing that "1946" back when he first added that, about a week ago. But I've just noticed that the author doesn't even cite his source. Also, as recently as 1997 (the source is in the article) the government issued revised definitions. SamEV (talk) 04:23, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
P.P.S. The longstanding issue is that he keeps insisting, not that Latinos are Americans of Latin American origins, but that Latino=Latin, regardless of what English-language sources say. I keep telling him that it is certainly true in Spanish (latino = Latin), but that the English-language dictionaries and the US govt tend to define it differently. SamEV (talk) 04:54, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
I will keep an eye on the article, it has already been added to my watchlist, cheers. - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:05, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. Also, Edgar broke a ref. It's named "oboler", and it's missing the terminal elements: }}</ref>. Could you fix it, please? SamEV (talk) 21:06, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Vandalism

I don't appreciate being accused of committing vandalism. I thought I saw a mistake on the Puerto Rico page that I tried to correct. Then I realized I was wrong, so I changed it back. No harm done. What was the point of throwing out such needless accusations? Seriously, this sort of accusatory and borderline dictatorial attitude does not reflect well on the Wikipedia editing community as a whole. I'm not asking for an apology. I just wanted you to know that you've pointlessly insulted me with your comment on one of the few times I've tried to help edit. Thanks a lot. You really showed me what happens when you're more proactive in this community. Quixoto (talk) 22:57, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Excuse me? you replaced the current governor Aníbal Acevedo Vilá with his direct political opponent Luis Fortuño without any sort of explanation in an edit summary, I have seen these kind of edits several times, do you any idea of how many political POV pushers edit these pages constantly? the action followed was the standard one, perhaps you need to start using edit summaries to avoid getting redundant warnings. - Caribbean~H.Q. 11:07, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Exactly. I thought it was the wrong person listed as governor of Puerto Rico, but it turns out that I was looking at the representative, not the governor. I was mistaken and so I changed it back. It was not vandalism. It was a mistake, and it was fixed before you even noticed it. No need for the accusation. However, if that sort of warning appeared automatically based on the actions I made violating some kind of Wikipedia programming code that I don't understand, I'd accept it. You didn't mean it. It's a part of the procedure. I don't want to start a war here. I know this is really just a miscommunication. I just want it to be clear that I am not a vandal. If you want to see a vandal, look at what someone did to that edit summaries link you gave. - Quixoto (talk) 21:57, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
It just common procedure, the warnings are pre-written so I'm not responsible for their content, however there is no interest from my part to continue any misuderstanding, you are free to remove it if you want. - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:13, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Puerto Rican Amazon

I see that you have added information on origins and relatives. Maybe this can be added to the taxonomy section instead of a new section. What do you think? Joelito (talk) 14:50, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Great to see the material. Copyediting is easy - I have just had some stuff come up off-keyboard which is somewhat distracting plus I rather stupidly nommed two articles at WP:GAN and they have both been reviewed together, but will do what I can. OK, I am unfamiliar with the geography of Puerto Rico, so I haven't added in the remainder of the unstruck information which seems to duplicate some of what is already in the article. I'll leave it to you to figure which is more detailed. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 10:47, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

As far as which day it should appear, I haven't a clue. Alot of biology articles are frustrating in that they have no 'anniversaries' as such, any key dates in the book we can squeeze into the article somehow? Another tip which may help is to put yourself on the 'other side' (i.e. as a reviewer) to see what may need improving. Common Treecreeper is at FAC now, and one of mine, Emperor Penguin got rare praise from Tony who is very hard to please at FAC. Have a read of his essay - User:Tony1/How to satisfy Criterion 1a, one of the best things i have read here. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 10:51, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

I have made some changes to the Taxonomy section of the PR Amazon article based on newer research. The article needs some copyediting before FAC. Joelito (talk) 23:23, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Clemente

The summary was not intentionally misleading. I added Clemente's birthplace under his date of birth (as is common on other baseball infoboxes). The nationality line is non-functional in the baseball infobox and has no function being there. If you look at the article, the infobox does not chage at all whether or not the line is in there. It is just wasted space in that infobox. Please let me know why you feel a non-appearing field is necessary on the Clemente page. Thanks. - Masonpatriot (talk) 20:44, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Future of Task Forces(part two: Atari)

(a message I left on WPVG talk page) In archive 41, we talked about sending video game series task forces into whole Publisher task forces. Example: Devil May Cry to Capcom. I would like to request that the actual creators of the task forces would meet here to discuss the issue I talk of in Archive 41.Gears Of War 01:50, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

LAX's page hasn't existed for over two months, and I'm sure he contributes enough to the project to keep a "cabal" running, this still doesn't justify the fact that you trolled over a dozen sysop talk pages, including Jimbo's for some reason. - Caribbean~H.Q. 00:36, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

SF, it looks like he was just some kid trying to have fun. The second has yet to be outed by Alison, and it looks like he/she may not be. All in all, the only one with the answers is Alison, and she has more than our curiosity to worry about (sadly :P). Cheers, The Hybrid 11:22, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, and bulletproof called it all along, too. We had the same information available to us, but he got it right and I didn't. Anyways, luckily I'm not the one who has to take action. Alright, I'm back. Some unexpected stuff came up, which is why I was gone for so long. Anyways, how've you been lately? Cheers, The Hybrid 16:52, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Mmm, yeah, that would be incredibly challenging. What kind of bird is it, out of curiosity? As for me, I've discovered WP:Huggle, which has to be the most powerful anti-vandalism tool I've ever seen. I downloaded it after old-school RC Patrolling just wasn't efficient enough, and I have to say the fact that this doesn't require approval scares me. I see the potential for disaster here. Cheers, The Hybrid 23:36, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Oh, they've changed the requirements since yesterday :P. Now you have to have rollback access. Well that's good. Cheers, The Hybrid 23:37, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, that thing is too powerful for its own good. I'm no stranger to powerful RCP tools, but this thing is just crazy. I've already made several mistakes due to how fast it gets going when I'm not careful. That thing is crazy. Cheers, The Hybrid 02:29, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

I think that Baldorioty de Castro is ready to go. You know, my aunt (R.I.P.) and Lolita Lebron were vecinas in Lares (That is where my father's family is from) and they were best friends. If this isn't the most helpful way of providing feedback, or if this isn't the best time to nitpick (or if you would rather I just fixed things instead of nitpicking), let me know. Whatever's most helpful. Guettarda (talk) 23:40, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

I think the pictures are all gifts - things that people added to my talk page for one reason or another. (Actually I might have added one or two myself - I can't remember, it's been so long.) The picture in the "cat needed" bar at the top was a cute bit of vandalism to the {{catneeded}} (which someone with no sense of humour then moved to {{uncategorized}}. And then Jim62sch vandalised my copy of the vandalised template.
But the other answer is that I'm just not that into Siamese cats. They're pretty, but I can't say I'm a big fan of their personality. Guettarda (talk) 03:11, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Pierluisi's govt. service

Pierluisi served during Rosselló's first term. I think it's relevant to mention that he served until the end of that first term, a natural moment for a Cabinet officer to move on, or for a Governor to replace one.

I agree that a contributor with a campaiogn-sounding name should perhaps let others do the editing. Perhaps "Pr4ever 2016"? Pr4ever (talk) 10:21, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

OK, I have let User:Circeus know about Puerto Rican Amazon. I have found his copyediting and judgement excellent. Once whatever issues he finds are fixed, I'd say let it loose at FAC (i.e. if he is happy, then so should most others be). Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 06:10, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Sharing a thought

My friend I just want to share a thought with you,

You know, it amazes me that throughout history, the courage and commitment of the Puerto Rican soldier has been questioned. Can you believe that Major General Luis R. Esteves, the "Father of the Puerto Rican National Guard," questioned the fighting capability of our "Jibaros" and when the 65th Infantry was sent to Korea, the American high command also questioned the bravery of our men. Little did they know that the brave men form our island would eventually earn 5 Medals of Honor, 5 Navy Crosses and 15 Distinguished Service Crosses. But, what strikes me the most is the lack of knowledge of our military history that those who criticize us have had and continue to have.

It seems to me that after the United States took control of our island, the heroic actions of our "Boricuas" as members of the Spanish Army and/or the Puerto Rican militia, were eliminated from our history books. Not only are our heroes of the "past" not mentioned in our educational history books, but there aren't any statues, monuments or paintings to honor them. That is why I enjoy writing about these heroes and telling the world about them. I want the world to know that our people were brave soldiers with "cojones" before the United States took over the island and they began to serve the Armed Forces of the United States.

That is why I have written the stories of men such as Juan de Amezquita and the brothers Jose and Francisco Diaz. I hope that you enjoy them. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:09, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi Bithorn

The reason I added the pronunciation guide is to help other ignoramuses, like me, who thought his English-looking name was pronounced the English way until I heard it pronounced at a game at the stadium named for him. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 23:03, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

IPA pronounciation is better used in such cases, considering that this is one of those historic figures, its just a matter of time until I come across a book and work with it, the guys at GAN will most likely ask for the IPA's version instead of a sentence explaining it. - Caribbean~H.Q. 01:41, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
Well, the IPA stuff is gibberish, to me, and I would like to make it clear about the pronunciation. Maybe I could just give the pronunciation and leave out the maybe-obvious fact that it's spoken with Spanish rules? Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 02:35, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
The problem with that is the two options available 1. you add the English pronunciation which is inacurate or 2. add the Spanish one, which altough correct can cause confussion. That's why I mentioned the IPA, generally used in such cases. - Caribbean~H.Q. 03:37, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
There's another option that just occurred to me - the opposite approach: I could say that his name is pronounced with Spanish rules, and let it go at that. Someone else could fill in the IPA stuff later if they want to. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 05:51, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
As long as its straighforward there should be no problem, its about avoiding redundancies. - Caribbean~H.Q. 09:33, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
Done. Someone could then add or substitute the IPA hieroglyphics if they want to. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 12:46, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Deletion on my talk page

Hi Caribbean, is there a policy under which things like what Beh-nam's sock's comments on my talk page should be removed? I certainly appreciate the kindness, but I am quite a stickler for having things remain on talk pages and on their archives, I would prefer that the comments stay--that is, unless there is a policy under which they actually ought to/should (ie normatively) be removed. Thanks. Carl.bunderson (talk) 04:14, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Lolita Lebron

I saw your sandbox, good stuff. I wonder if Ramon Santiago is related to me? I bet he was, he was from Lares and Lolita was vecina of my grandparents. Another interesting thing is that one of my uncles surname was Sotomayor, I'll have to ask my father.

Anyway, want a "Piragua"? Check out mi hija, Nilda with the Piragua pushcart and my nieta Nina eating her first Piragua in Puerto Rico. Tony the Marine (talk) 22:05, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Let me know when you are done with Lolita, including the proper referencing. Then, I will do like I have done before, I'll go over the grammer and everything else, to pick up the loose ends. Tony the Marine (talk) 04:44, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Just to let you know I have finished up the revision of this article, in keeping with the comments by you and other reviewers at the FAC page. I've incorporated information from some of this week's interviews into the article. It would be appreciated if you could check to see that I have addressed all of your concerns. Thanks. Risker (talk) 06:52, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

DOI bot

I saw your roll-back to the bot edit. You need to give an access date for web-only content because the content might change. You don't need to for a book or journal, because the content is fixed in the hard copy. A link to an on-line version is a courtesy and is not strictly speaking required (I rarely link to abstracts), and doesn't need an access date because the hard copy is the definitive form. This useful bot is actually just doing what it should and correcting formatting errors, hope this clarifies jimfbleak (talk) 05:32, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

As a matter of fact I undid the revision, rollback doesn't allow the use of an edit summary. Nevertheless, I should have noticed that the reference was using the "cite journal" instead of the "cite web" template before. - Caribbean~H.Q. 01:15, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Managers/Valets

I wanted to discuss this with you before reverting again. I believe previous WP:PW consensus was that managers should be listed under valets. They do have different roles, in a way, so maybe the heading should be changed to "Managers/Valets" or something like that. Perhaps we should bring it up at WT:PW? Gavyn Sykes (talk) 01:41, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

In all honesty I don't really have a problem with them being included, but their listing should be accurate. - Caribbean~H.Q. 01:45, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
Fair enough. It probably should be listed under Managers/Valets. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 22:54, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Preguntas:

Francisco Coimbre was born in 1909.

1. The article states that he was 13 years old in 1922 when he moved with his family to Ponce and became interested in baseball.

Yet,

2. In the "Baseball career" section it states that in "1920 participated in a championship series between his team and the team of Guayama". How could that be? He would have been 11 years old.

3. Plus, the infobox states that his Pro debut was "1920, Leones de Ponce vs. San Juan Athletics". At 11? I don't think so.

I'll let you figure it out before I continue copyediting. Tony the Marine (talk) 03:30, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

  • More questions:

1. "he was recruited by Licey to play in the Dominican Republic" - Was Licey a person or a team?

2. "Shortly after, he was offered a contract to play in La Guaira, with Santa Marta." - Was "La Guaira" a team? and what is mean't by "with Santa Marta"?

3. "In 1935 he moved to Maracaibo where he played for Pastora, in Zulia's Stadium." - Is "Pastora" a team or person?

My son told me that Coimbre's son-in-law was accussed of murder for setting the house on fire. Do you think that you could check that out? I couldn't find a source on that. Tony the Marine (talk) 23:05, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

As far as sockpuppetry goes, unless he does something blantant with the sock (i.e. avoiding 3RR, vote-stacking or something of the sort) there is no reason to block, legitimate alternate accounts are permited in the project. - Caribbean~H.Q. 00:51, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Dragon Ball Z Butchering

Hey, I noticed you were one of the administrators for the Dragon Ball WikiProject, and I wanted to inform you that there have been a few individuals going around deleting information on the subject. They've completely remove the Dragon Ball Z article - leaving only three paragraphs describing it on the Dragon Ball manga page. The saga summaries have also been removed. (And as the WikiProject page states, there were to be four pages dedicated to the story arcs in Dragon Ball Z.)

Vandalism is a strong word, but this hits pretty darn close. A user by the name of Collectonian seems to be taking the lead among them. It's pretty clear given the negative backlash that these changes were not warranted, despite how the users in question attempt to justify them. Anyway, I can try to tackle repairs myself, but my expertise on editing Wikipedia articles is somewhat limited. Any help you can provide in fixing the damage and preventing these users from causing more is greatly appreciated! Thanks.72.160.93.25 (talk) 22:38, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

And I wouldn't mind being part of that wiki Puerto Rico Project. If you have any more articles on Puerto Rican Futbol that need a fixing tell me I will do my best to properlly make them, im currently working on the Puerto Rico Islanders, Puerto Rico Soccer League and its teams, implanning on working on the national teams page aswell since it seem to be very badly presented and some of its info is very old. #

Actually, in May of 2000, McClintock was neither President of the Senate (January 2005 -present), nor a member (actually Leader) of the NPP Minority (Jan. 2001-Dec. 2004), but a member of the NPP majority and, if I'm not mistaken, chairman of the "Comisión de Gobierno y Asuntos Federales". It says in Wikipedia:Manual of Style (biographies)#Opening paragraph that "Ethnicity should generally not be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability." Delgado is notable for being a baseball player, not Puerto Rican, so it should stay the way it was. WP:PUR is trying to play up ethnicity. Are they THAT bored? These changes are out of line with our guidelines. --Pwnage8 (talk) 00:38, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

"Puerto Rican" has been a nationality for over a century, it was downplayed when the American invaded the archipelago but it was never revoked. - Caribbean~H.Q. 00:40, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Therefore, it should stay the way it is. --Pwnage8 (talk) 00:42, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Nationality refers to country of origin, so it should stay the way it is. --Pwnage8 (talk) 00:54, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
I'm Canadian, and whenever I see articles refer to "Canadian" it always links to Canada. Since Puerto Rican people can live just about anywhere, we should point out that he's from Puerto Rico. There is already "List of Black Puerto Ricans" in the "see also", which is more precise anyway. --Pwnage8 (talk) 01:11, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Re:Puerto Rican Campaign‎

I agree with you 100%. If we merge all of the battle stubs, plus I can add some extra information to it, I think that we can come up with one hell of an article, which can be very informative and educational for future generations. Tony the Marine (talk) 04:06, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

  • I haven't looked at the stubs yet, but I can imagine that we will have to verify the accuracy of the information posted. Once the merging is done, I will verify details with you, add images and post some info on individual participation. Tony the Marine (talk) 04:24, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
I'll look into the Battle of Yauco. Too bad about Cotto, he should have concentrated more on body punches then the quick KO. Tony the Marine (talk) 04:01, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Once we're done with all of the battles, we'll rewrite the intro and I think that you and I will have a possible FAC candidate "en nuestro bolsillo". Tony the Marine (talk) 04:28, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Tony Rodríguez

¡Hola C-H.Q.!

First at all, I have to say that little is known about this player. The reason to include Tony Rodríguez is because he is a member of the Boston Red Sox all-time roster, which include a list of 1.500-plus players in the team's long history and also form part of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Boston Red Sox.

Beside this, Tony-R is not the only baseball player with a brief entry. You can check Cup of coffee –a North American common sports terminology for a short time spent by a player at the major league level. In this article are cited references of major leaguers like as Tony-R and, believe or not, many of them with just one game played (he appeared in 27 games during the 1996 Boston Red Sox season). This gentleman is also included in the entry for MLB players born in Puerto Rico.

At last, I assume the WPBRS intends, to expand this article and the others we create from that list. Keep up the good work!

Saludos cordiales. MusiCitizen (talk) 15:39, 30 July 2008 (UTC).

Suggestion

I suggest that "Puerto Rican Campaign" be redirected (moved) to "Puerto Rico in the Spanish-American War". It seems like a more logical title and then it can be explained within the intro. that the U.S. called it the "Puerto Rican Campaign". What do you think? The person who created the "The Second Battle of San Juan (1898)" insists on a "no" merger. As far as I'm concerned there was only big Battle from May to July which included various skirmishes. Tony the Marine (talk) 22:02, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Will do Battle of Guayama next. Tony the Marine (talk) 01:18, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
The expansion of the intro has to be worked on, plus in the aftermath section, we must make a note of the attempted process of "Americanization" of the island by the Americans, such as the changing of our islands name from "Puerto Rico" to "Porto Rico", the prohibition of "Spanish" in our schools and so on, must be mentioned. Tony the Marine (talk) 19:47, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
  • I will work on the "Americanization" issue in the "After math" section. Go ahead and merge the "Prelude to War" with the "Spanish Preparations" section and if you like expand the introduction to include a brief summary of the whole article. Tony the Marine (talk) 22:22, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Pudge, etc.

I am not taking a position on Puerto Rican independence, I'm merely stating facts. Over time, Puerto Rico has apparently become more autonymous, but it's not the same thing as being independent. I changed the article to say "birthplace", since that's non-POV and indisputable (assuming no one lied about where they were born). As to Rodriguez himself, if he's over the hill then maybe the Tigers got the better end of the deal. I notice the Yanks have started to lose since they got him. Maybe that's a sign. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 15:50, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

I understand. You're free to do what you want with your talk page entries. You didn't revert my latest change on the article yet, so I'm assuming you're OK with it. Funny thing about the Yankees - it's as if the events of 2001 were metaphoric for the beginning of the end of "Yankee dominance" both nationally and politically. The N.Y. Yankees have, frankly, become chokers in the 21st century; and the USA no longer has the power to tell everyone how to run their business, although we still try. A lot of us were singing "God Bless America" in the wake of 9/11/01. However, on that shocking day, the song running through my own head was Paul Simon's "American Tune". I consider myself an "America firster", and the USA's continual efforts to get their mitts into everyone else's affairs do not serve my country well. That's just my opinion, I could be an idiot. :) Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 16:09, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
Meanwhile, I'm not sure what you meant by "that's plural", unless you mean, as regards my opinions on the Bronx Bombers, "That makes two of us." :) Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 16:36, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
Oh, you meant the two Rodriguezes on the Yankees, didn't you. Bingo. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 16:37, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

It's always about perceived national interest. We got ourselves into Iraq because the Bushies decided it was in our national interest. You can see how well that worked out. And we've continued to meddle with the Philippines from time to time, despite giving them independence right after WWII ended and they were, as you might say, no longer critical strategically. And about Puerto Rico, instead of being given their independence all at once, it's like we're doing it step-by-step over the last 60 years or so. We'll see how things go once Fidel kicks the bucket. Cuba is not really considered much of a "threat" anymore as such, and if things go fairly smoothly after Fidel's gone, then Puerto Rico will also become less and less important to the USA strategically. I've got a hunch that on the day Puerto Rico actually does become independent, it will be just like any other day. Of course, the USA could always play a little joke and give them their independence on July 4th. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 16:46, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Hey, you're on my wavelength about Yankee Stadium. It's the site with by far the richest history in baseball, and they're tearing it down. But professional ball is mostly about today and tomorrow, and the House that George Ruth Built has now become associated with a team that chokes. So it's time for them to trash their history and get a new start in The House that George Steinbrenner built (with a little help from the taxpayers). Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 16:51, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

I see now about the plural. Duh. OK, time for the only joke I know about Puerto Rico. Actually, it's not about Puerto Rico, it's about the guy telling it, Rodney Dangerfield, and how he was always disrespected: "I won a prize the other day - a free vacation, 7 nights in Puerto Rico. No days, just 7 nights. I asked, 'What about the days?' They said, 'We don't care, just stay out of Puerto Rico!" Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 17:02, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

RE: Content Blanking

Hi there, recently you left me this message:

Please do not replace Wikipedia pages or sections with blank content, as you did to Puerto Rico national basketball team. It is considered vandalism. First, thanks for the links on the subject. However, I find removing inaccurate text that cannot be verified does not constitute blanking as you mentioned nor is it considered vandalism. I would encourage you to revisit what constitutes blanking and vandalism and use the terms with greater care in the future. But for the sake of the greater good of wikipedia, rather than remove the unverifiable text completely I edited it to be more in line with the truth. Thanks. Woo38 (talk) 03:05, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

That "cannot be verified", do you realize how much media coverage this particular game received? Puerto Rico was the first team to defeat the United States in the Olympics, which virtually justifies the entire content. Perhaps you should try to Google events before blanking material. - Caribbean~H.Q. 03:10, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I do realize how much media coverage this game and all the games that year received. I'm not disputing that. What I am disputing is the term "Dream Team" when used in the sentence to describe the significance of the win. I even mentioned in my post for the greater good of Wikipedia. It was edited rather than removed because I can understand its importance in your team's history.

However, when the term “Dream Team” is applied the information becomes inaccurate and a gross misrepresentation of the facts and in no way validates the content of the text, virtually or otherwise. Thanks. Woo38 (talk) 05:13, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

I din't write it, but I guess that someone just repeated the same mistake done by several news and media outlets, "Drem Team" is still used by the American media when refering to Team USA, even when the current team isn't nearly as talented or successful as their 1992 counterpart. - Caribbean~H.Q. 21:21, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

User:Pr4ever

I want to discuss User:Pr4ever, who is one the best that we have and an asset to the Boricua's in Wiki. It seems that he/she was working on an article about Rick Amon, and right away someone came and nominated it for "Speedy Delete", without giving anyone an opportunity to express thier opinion. Neeedless to say the article was quickly deleted and "Pr4ever" became disillutioned with Wikipedia. I recovered the article and posted it in a "workshop" which I created for him/her. If possible, I would like for you to go over his/her talk page and encourage User:Pr4ever to stay. I would hate to loose "Uno de los Buenos". Tony the Marine (talk) 23:11, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Felicidades on Trinidad. I know how much you wanted that one to pass and I'm happy to be a very small part of it. What I can't understand what is taking Puerto Rican Campaign so long! Everytime that I finish an article, I tell myself "That's enough, now it is time to rest", but then I find another Boricua, whose contributions have fallen into the cracks of history and I find myself correcting this wrong by writing about him/her. By redirecting it again, you broke several transclusions which expected it to show up as a cleanup template. Just to let you know that I've redirected this again. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 10:48, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

So you are suggesting that people actually used this newly-recreated redirect as a cleanup template? The redirect was barely created less than a month ago, widespread use may prove the lazyness of some users. - Caribbean~H.Q. 01:51, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Request

Someone is looking into the "PR Campaign" GA adn it is on "hold". I took care of some of the concerns. and I was wondering if you could look into the referencing format and the image concern. I think that you are much better then me in taking care of them. Tony the Marine (talk) 04:49, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

I agree with you on the image thing, because I don't have any problems when I view the article in my computer. Now, we'll have to wait for the "prose" review from the reviewer. Nos salio un huevo duro el tipo. Tony the Marine (talk) 00:38, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Kratos

Despite how common the term might be, it's entirely inaccurate. Kratos isn't a traditional "good guy", and labelling him as such is misinformation. The developers refer to him as an antihero as well, so what's the problem? Gamer Junkie T / C 04:37, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Negative, the term protagonist just emphasizes the role of a certain character, not his alignment. Hence the literal definition of the word "chief actor", some protagonists may even be full blown criminals. The wording is just to keep the opening sentence encyclopedic, in the same manner that other inmoral protagonists are depicted. If you have read the Illiad you are aware of Achilles's actions, yet he is refered to as a "main character" in the opening sentence. As far as noting his role, I already did when writting the article, check the "Personality" subsection. - Caribbean~H.Q. 19:59, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Very well. It's not my article, so I won't pursue the matter any further. Gamer Junkie T / C 04:51, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Interesting fact

Hola mi hermano, Here is an interesting ironic fact that I wanted to share with you. Did you know that the ship in which Isabel Gonzalez arrived in New York where she was detained as an alien and where she denounced the promises that General Nelson A. Miles made to the people of Puerto Rico, the SS Philadelphia was once the USS Yale, the ship in which General Nelson used to invade Guanica? I had a minor discussion with a someone in the "Gonzalez" talk page which you might find amussing. Tony the Marine (talk) 20:26, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Wierd pic

I highly doubt that Sidhe13 (talk · contribs · logs) is the copyright holder of this fair use image. What are your thoughts? (PS: Nice to see you back! ^_^) Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 18:03, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

The image is obviously a low-quality screenshot, it should be deleted as a copyvio. However, since it was uploaded to Commons I can't delete it, this isn't a global account yet, but placing {{speedy|Copyvio, fair use screenshot}} on the page should do the trick. - Caribbean~H.Q. 20:13, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks man. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 21:01, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
What tag(s) do I put on Image:Trunks goten gt.JPG? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 01:09, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
If the image is useful add {{Non-free television screenshot}} accompanied by a fair use rationale. Otherwise, the templates are {{speedy|CSD I4: Lack of licensing information}} or {{speedy|CSD I6: Missing non-free use rationale}}, both of which kick in seven days after its tagged. - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:08, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
I'll definitely remember that. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 02:15, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
Although they may be deleted before, I recommend adding {{di-no source|date=???}} first just to comply with all the bureaucratic procedure, then place the speedy templates on the eighth day. Just a reminder for future images. - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:22, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

You know that you are my right-hand man here, that is why I want you to know that I'll be slowing down for a couple of days. I don't know exactly what has happened to me, but my health has worsen and I can hardly walk. Please make sure that everyone follows the rules in the List of Puerto Ricans. Gracias. • I agree with you on the martial arts. If they are notable then should be on the list. I used to have a "vecino" by the name of Ricky Camacho, who once told me that his brother was one of the great Karatecas of P.R. Tony the Marine (talk) 17:59, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

...is on my watch list, but I missed the latest vandalism. I'll try and do better. Defending the great Roberto against los pequeños is a high priority. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 02:22, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

I have no idea from where this vandalism sprout came, but its nearing fifty edits between vandals and reverts. Seeing the variety in IP ranges, my guess is that some idiot might be running some sort of "lets vandalize Wikipedia!" campaign, most likely due to a warning issued for vandalizing this article before. - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:27, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
The "little ones"? - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:29, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

I would say that their levels of stupidity are interchangeable, it depends on the context where the words are used. - Caribbean~H.Q. 03:50, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
Indeed it would probably be a fine line of separation. And it's one thing to vandalize Britney Spears or Madonna, who kind of ask for it; but to vandalize the greats of the game is like sacrilege, and must not be tolerated. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 03:55, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Will do soon

Yes, will work with you soon on some more "GA's." Do you have any suggestions? Right now I have in mind a minor project. It is a pity how some people tend to delude the educational content of an article such as the one of Puerto Rico with the intent of converting it into a political forum. Maybe a mention of the Gonzales v. Williams case in the article could enlighten and educate many as to the initial opposition in the United States to US citizenship for Puerto Ricans? Tony the Marine (talk) 00:32, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

You're quite right...

I know jack about sport in Puerto Rico, and frankly I don't care about sport in Puerto Rico. What I do care about is ensuring that Wikipedia is both correct and uniform. Now, seeing as you seem to be from Puerto Rico, why don't you do everyone a favour, be helpful and figure out exactly what flag should be placed in the area we have been 'discussing' and, if there is no image on Wikipedia, then make one and upload it. Una Espina

Remember some years ago when my article "Puerto Ricans in NASA" was placed in "AfD" and it was deleted? I wrote that article with a lot of pride and it has been an espinita on my side. However, I wasn't about to give up. I have just about finished up on my latest project which should take out that espinita. I would like for you to have the pleasure of looking at the preview: Preview. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:35, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

My son is sending my wife and yours truely on a 5-day cruise in the Pacific. I was wondering if it is O.K. with you if I direct those who have any questions to ask me in my talk page to you, like we did last May when I had to go to Puerto Rico? Tony the Marine (talk) 22:03, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Hello. Thanks for the contributions to "List of Puerto Rican boxing world champions" Your work there is awesome and great. Let talk one day about boxeo. Su amigo, IoWiki2007 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Io Wiki2007 (talkcontribs) 13:03, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

  • Mi hermano, I was looking at the "List of Puerto Rican boxing world champions," damn what a great list. You know when both my son's were just kids, I would get in touch with our champions and make arrangements to take my kids and some of the poor kids in the neighborhood to their houses. I wanted to inspire these kids by having them meet in person Ossie Occasio, Sammy Serrano, Julian Solis and family, "El Chapo" Rosario, Luvi Callejas, Pedro Montañez and so on. Our champions were not only great in the gym, they were also great outside the gym. They would show my kids around their mansions and give encouraging chats. I wanted to share this with you since I enjoyed the "list" and I know that you are a great PR sports fan. Tony the Marine (talk) 04:06, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
  • Wonderful job. excellent with Capital letter. I am so proud to have Wikipedians like you with the vision to improve the articles like you did. I just want you to check when you get time that Hector Camacho was also NBA world champion at SuperMiddleweight (168 lbs) when he defeated Duran. The data is in the article/discussion from BoxRec. If you one day get time please check my other boxing articles. I will be honored to also have your help there in the future. and, yes, as our hermanito say, boxing is one of the best sports from Puerto Rico. Gracias mil, su amigo IoWiki.~~IoWiki2007~~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by Io Wiki2007 (talkcontribs) 23:27, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Puerto Rican scientists and inventors

Note, before you put up the List of Puerto Rican boxing world champions for FLC, my son Antonio Jr. will like to look at it. He will get in touch with you. One thing that I would like to suggest and that I think would help is this, in the "table" add a section for the name of the association "WBC", "WBA", "WBO", etc. for which each champion won the title. I think that it is important since now-a-days there are so many associations that people have trouble finding out the association which the the boxer fought for. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:59, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

A few fans

If only a few fans can enter the ring after a match, then it's still possible for one of those "few" fans to take a shot at that particular person. 124.106.201.49 (talk) 22:23, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Talk about random anon comments, why would a user from the Philippines argue something that I did based on previous knowledge? In the deletion summary, I noted the fraudulent PD claim, but that's not the entire story. Putting it simply, the only fans allowed inside a ring are either family, friends or people that are invited by one of the parts, a very reduced amount of folk. Now, assuming that one of them actually took the photo, we are faced with the slim chance that said person released the image into the public domain as was claimed. Regardless of that, if someone is going to claim the work of others is theirs, at least they should select images that haven't made it into the press, been featured in the cover of the digital version of a major newspaper and are one of the first matches in two relevant image searches. Even ignoring all of these, the uploader, who clearly stated that "fans" are the authors (i.e. not him), would still need to prove that the person that took the photo is willing to have it published and released to the public domain. - Caribbean~H.Q. 23:31, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Puerto Rican Cuisine

I have taken care of the Orlando Cepeda situation and believe that it can be worked into a "GA" in the future. I am also requesting a discussion in the talk page of Puerto Rican Cuisine to settle the war-editing going on. 19:34, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
