Middle names

[edit]

Hey there. Just wondering what source you're using for the middle names you're adding to articles. - Dudesleeper 23:19, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry

[edit]

I was a bit hastey. With a lot of people put false information such as places of births, when I saw that Neale Cooper was born in India knowing that he'd grown up in Aberdeen, I assumed it was vandalism. However, you're information was correct and I've reversed my reverse. Please accept my apologies. Englishrose 22:29, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Place of birth

[edit]

Hi, where did you get that Saulius Mikoliūnas was born in Šviesa? I am afraid, but this info might be inaccurate as "šviesa" in the Lithuanian language simply means "light" and I am completely unaware of any city/town/village with this name. Could you double-check and make sure the source is really accurate? Thanks! Renata 01:01, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I could not find his birth place either in Lithuanian or English websites... But I double checked and there is no such place called "Šviesa." As to Klaipėda, Kaipėdoje means "in Klaipėda." So the right name is simply Klaipėda. Lithuanian nouns change endings in different grammar cases. I know most foreign websites have lots of trouble figuring all the grammar things :) If you have any other questions, or need further help - just let me know, ok? Renata 01:33, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to get involved, by Šviesa you probably meant Šviesa Vilnius which is now FC Vilnius, a football club he played for, with regards to his PoB, it's quite strange that this isn't mentioned anywhere.Andrius 15:20, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think putting in a reference is always a good idea. Put it there first and we'll see what it looks like. Chanheigeorge 19:27, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. I just came across an article that also talks about the 1954 Scotland World Cup squad. [1] However, it says that Evans, not Anderson, was in the travelling squad. Do you know which one is correct? Chanheigeorge 01:21, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your research. Much appreciated. Chanheigeorge 18:15, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the players who travelled at the end, they're the players with numbers 1-13, which makes sense. It'd be weird for Evans to get jersey #4 and not travel. Chanheigeorge 18:41, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Moustafa Kamel Mansour

[edit]

Hi. In the squad lists I had Mostafa, but Wikipedias article on him says Moustafa, yet the resource links in that article use Mustafa and Mustapha as well. When there are so many conflicting sources ,which is the case for the early World Cups, I just pick one that occurs most frequently. Fortunately this player has an article already so we can leave it as is but I might mention in the discussion the varieties in the sources so it doesn't get repeatedly changed. Libro0 10:26, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I added the Arabic script to the article above. Actually I have added well over a 1000 Arabic scripts to articles, so if you ever need my help with this, you know where to find me. As for the name, I believe the best spelling, according to formal Arabic (since almost every Arabic country has a different dialect), is Mustafa. So I moved it there and removed the middle name; you don't have to add a middle name to the names of biographical articles. Have a great day. :) ← ANAS Talk? 11:46, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Also, in the article, 1978-79 in Scottish football, you can use a table for the standings. I've started one in a hidden comment for you. You can continue over it if you like. You can also do that to similar articles. Good luck. ← ANAS Talk? 12:01, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Well, good luck mate. :) Good job on the soccer articles, by the way. ← ANAS Talk? 13:34, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling variations

[edit]

Now that I think of it I did have a source that was not only arabic but Egyptian. The spellings are all different than what I have. I could not remember why I did not use those spellings. Then I recalled that there had been discussions about translated names. I believe it was discussed that since wikipedia is available in many languages each one should use their own spelling. So this is why I left them in 'english'. Here is the Egyptian spellings [2].
You might also notice that I used full names. I did this for most countries even Brazil. I did this for the early World Cups since most of those players do not have bios. Having the fullest possible name gives the most info about him until a bio goes up. Many Brazilian users have since trimmed the names back down to the single name versions. Sometimes I even had nicknames in there but most of these have since been removed as well. Anyway... Keep up the good work. Libro0 05:40, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for editing this article recently. I'm curious as to where you found the date of birth of this individual, as a Google search, unless I was looking in entirely the wrong place, yielded little to nothing for me. Not that I doubt you, I just think I looked far too hard for this information in entirely the wrong place. Thank you. Bobo. 02:01, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Caledonian Place said: Hi Bobo. There were two places which listed Steve Williams' details. Football Squads.co.uk (run by the RSSSF) has only recently added an Irish squads section, and has Shelbourne's squad here.

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the RSSSF. I should have seen that coming sometime, and is the easiest place to search for everything without having to move around excessively. I just wasn't aware that RSSSF had moved in that direction yet.

Caledonian Place said: Also, the DoB is on a different part of the official site that you linked to in external links. What seems to have happened is that your google search returned the "stats section" of the site - there is also a "Shels Penpics" under the squad section. See here. There was a brief mention of him in Dundalk's history section, however I didn't see anything which confirmed when, or for how long, he was at Notts County.

Thank you for showing me the Date of Birth section. I believe I've mentioned his Notts County career in enough depth as to explain almost everything that happened while he was there, which is particularly ironic. I've bookmarked the Date of birth section for later use and will access it later to check up on information I may have missed. Thank you for letting me know about this and please keep in touch if I've missed anything. Bobo. 18:28, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rattenburg AfD

[edit]

Hi Caledonian Place. I've closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rattenburg early with the decision to redirect. As I explained in closing it, there's no need to bring such an article to AfD. Since it's non-controversial, you can just merge and/or redirect as necessary. Anyway, I know you were trying to be helpful, so no harm done. You'll know for next time.--Kchase T 04:50, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Category cleanup

[edit]

Hi CP. That sounds fine, I'm just removing those for which there is no evidence at all. Terry McDermott was in the category, which gave me a laugh! Thanks for offering to help; if you wanted to start from the tail end of the list, that'll stop us getting in each other's way. The category is actually more encyclopedic with the rubbish removed; most of these people seem to have been added for having Irish names! --Guinnog 16:02, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's looking a lot better now, thanks for your help and support. --Guinnog 16:34, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Get out more!!

[edit]

You are a sad git who needs to get out more!! 81.145.242.82 00:59, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that. Any particular reason for your gracious advice? Caledonian Place 01:22, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, sorry I got a bit carried away. I am just fed up with users adding requests for references when they probably aren't needed, this is because the information on the page is ok to begin with! 81.145.242.82 04:49, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Stuart Soane, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Hello, that text is auto-generated. This text is from me. :) this should go on the userpage of the user who createe the article, but they appear to not have a talk page yet, and to be not very active in wikipedia. I've proposed the Stuart Soane article for deletion. I'm letting you know because you're the only other person who's edited that page. DanBeale 10:40, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I took the PROD tag off. I was worried that the article was going to be an ignored orphan, but no that it's got info boxes and is part of a project I guess that's not the case. Kind Regards, DanBeale 19:14, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Davy Allan from london hearts here. I can help producing detail and summary info from my Hearts and Scotland results database. Let me knoe if you have any requirements. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by DavyJAllan (talkcontribs) 12:50, 12 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Like what you've done with the HMFC Seasons. Any other similar details required?

D'oh. Good catch. When I added Ian Ferguson (footballer born 1968) I misinterpreted the note in the top section, but then all of the inclusions are notable, else they wouldn't have an article. - Dudesleeper · Talk 15:53, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome work on this and, for that matter, a number of historical football articles. Well done. Rockpocket 05:04, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, though I can't help regarding which US side he played for, I'm afraid. Perhaps, if you have time, you could see if you have anything to add to Billy McPhail - I'm hoping I can get him on DYK too. Rockpocket 06:12, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

With your Jambos knowledge, I hereby pass his article over to you. - Dudesleeper · Talk 12:58, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It seems Calley's knowledge of Scottish towns and villages isn't very extensive. He listed Bobby Finan's home town as Old Kirkpatrick, and I notice he messed up with Corridon too. Who knows if Deantown ever actually existed... - Dudesleeper · Talk 10:16, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clyde F.C. managers

Hello, I'm actually on holiday at the moment, so I don't have access to a Clyde history book. The answer should be in the book, so I'll check it up when I get back, and let you know in around Tuesday-ish Ck12 18:37, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proper moving of pages

[edit]

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that recently you carried out a copy and paste page move from John Divers to John Divers (1950s footballer). Please do not move articles by copying and pasting them because it splits the article's history, which is needed for attribution and is helpful in many other ways. If there is an article that you cannot move yourself using the move link at the top of the page, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requested moves. Also, if there are any other articles that you copied and pasted, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. Clyde F.C. manager Scottish Cup 1958

[edit]

Hello, the Clyde manager for the 1958 SC Final was Johnny Haddow. Don't have any information on him though. Sorry about the delay, forgot about this until I looked at my discussion page tonight Ck12 21:03, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for this, good work. I don't know why but there seems to be very little about Clyde's past staff/managers on the net, my Google search was fruitless. The only other thing I know on the subject is that Alec Maley (brother of Celtic's Willie and Man City's Tom) was secretary-manager in 1909-10 and that he eventually left to manage Hibs. Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Caledonian Place! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 180 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

A search for references found no published (gBooks) support for the content of this article. Fails WP:V and WP:N

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
