Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, CalebSC55, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you created or edited was User:CalebSC55/sandbox, which appears to be an article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians—as this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. Your user page, however, is a great place to write about yourself, making sure to stay within user page guidelines. Just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit it normally.

The page you created about yourself may well be deleted from the encyclopedia. If it is deleted and you wish to retrieve its contents, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page. If your contributions to an existing article about yourself are undone and you wish to add to it, please propose the changes on its talk page.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

thank you for reaching out. what prompted the creation of the page was my becoming verified on google. I wanted my google verification to say more than just an occupation and political party for people that search for me. which being a political official happens. I just figured it would be easier for me to make than request it to be made.CalebSC55 (talk) 21:28, 11 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Draft:Caleb Hudson, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. how is creating a page for an elected official "Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add promotional or advertising material to Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing." I was told on my last submission I wasn't notable enough for a wiki. this time I said the reason for making it is for the knowledge box. that's literally so people can have access to information(like from an encyclopedia) when they google me, because apparently it happens enough.CalebSC55 (talk) 13:51, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Google are free to reuse Wikipedia's content - as is everybody else. On the other hand Wikipedia does not exist to host content just for it to show up on Google. Your need for the article so that Google will create a knowledge box is a dictionary definition of self-promotion and conflict of interest.
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia which documents notable things. It doesn't aim to make things notable which is what you're currently trying to use it for. Cabayi (talk) 16:49, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

yeah. i think there is a misunderstanding that was just my comment to the WP:NPOLITICIAN as an example of notoriety.i am not using wiki to make myself notable as i almost cited more on the page for myself then the county i represent. it was purly so information would populat in a google search. that's not self-promotion, it is because i am a person people google, enough so google has has given me a knowledge panel. i want to put knowledge in that panel with wiki. do i need to go to suggest a page to get this created? i just thought i would save someone else the time and just do it myself. per the wiki guidlines g11 this was a g11 "This applies to pages that are exclusively promotional and would need to be fundamentally rewritten to serve as encyclopaedia articles, rather than advertisements. If a subject is notable and the content could plausibly be replaced with text written from a neutral point of view, this is preferable to deletion" that is silent on intent, you can not inteperet intent just the substence of the article. what was the promotion in the article and do i reach the level of noteriaty?

CalebSC55 (talk) 17:00, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You've explained yourself pretty clearly. You want a bigger, better knowledge box on Google and you want to write about yourself on Wikipedia to achieve that.
The issue is notability, not notoriety, and you don't reach either the specific WP:NPOL or the general WP:GNG thresholds.
You didn't create an article about Walter Pellish, your predecessor. You didn't create an article about Jan Hafer, your opponent. You didn't even create an article about Jefferson County Commission, on which you sit. It's pretty clear your focus and your only concern is self-promotion. Cabayi (talk) 17:28, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

are you being that petty? yes I said my knowledge box only shows my education and political party and I would like it to show more. that doesn't mean I want it to promote me, that just means I want it to have more information. and its not like I am the sole arbitor of the wiki. people can come make changes to it which is why I tried to leave it vague to begin with. I can write articles about Walt and Jan if you want I was just adding more secondary sources because I was told they were needed. again like I said where was the promotion in the article, I will take it out. but now that it has been deleted I would like to for it to be put back and published. because you are not following wiki guidelines, as I keep posting. i would like others to review thisCalebSC55 (talk) 17:35, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

NOTHERE? Cabayi (talk) 17:42, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't violate g11, I cited news articles that reference other people to provide secondary sources and apparently that is self-promotion? WP:GNG was never referenced for denial so it doesn't matter. I believe I have adequately me the standard of WP:NPOL after the first rejection as shown. particularly looking at articles in the US on people that are being created

CalebSC55 (talk) 17:51, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dunno why you were asking for admin help, but I did take a look at the article. I think it was a fair deletion, the article was clearly promotional, and the wording was not neutral. Including your nickname in the military is hardly Encyclopedic. You may or may not be notable at this point, but if you wish to create another draft, you will need to declare your conflict of interest and write a neutral article. But to be honest: I suggest you don't. If you're notable, one of our volunteers will write about you in time. Though most county commissioners are not notable. My county commissioner doesn't have a page and probably shouldn't. If anything, I see this as a challenge: go and do something to become notable. You also might wish to read An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing, which breaks down to: people can say both good and bad things about you on Wikipedia. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 00:16, 13 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

so the article may or may have not been a WP:NPol and the article were deleted because I have a nickname I go by? having a nickname is self-promotion? again do I have to post the wiki guidelines? want me to delete my nickname even though I go by it? fine what next? I am not actually seeing admins follow the g11 guidelines that's why I am asking for admins. G11 specifically says "If a subject is notable and the content could plausibly be replaced with text written from a neutral point of view, this is preferable to deletion." that didn't happen. I did declare my conflict when I resubmitted and it was my mistake the first time. but no one has said how the article isn't neutral i is mostly Caleb(me) was here, did that. as for notability look at the article. compared to articles in the new articles page what I tried to post is comparable. and I understand having a wiki goes both ways but good, as I keep saying what initiated this was having more information(good or bad) in my google knowledge panel when people search for me. I doubt your county commissioners have knowledge panels.CalebSC55 (talk)

(Non-administrator comment) hello, CalebSC55! Hope you're well. Looks like you've had a frustrating time. Let's return your aim to increase access to information...when they google me. As a taxpayer, I greatly prefer even my most beloved government officials leave Wikipedia to us non-officials. While this is the encyclopedia anyone can edit, the county commission is not one anyone can run. Exert power effectively. Consider investing (more) hard-earned tax money on a team to maintain a website with dedicated subpages for each commissioner and to do some white-hat search engine optimization for said subpages. Achieve your aims using perhaps unforeseen methods. Thank you, and stay safe, Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 20:51, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
