{{help me}} Since I am the author of the Gray Line Project, it is a conflict of interest for me to post on the subject. I have tried to remove other guideline inconsistencies and errors as reflected in the text below. If this revision is OK to post, can someone please post it on "Chicago 'L'" for me; or advise me what further needs to be done to make it acceptable. Also any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Gold Line, a South Side rail transit proposal that is derived from the older "CTA Gray Line Project" (which is unique in that it was proposed by community members and not professional transit planners - see "Gray Line" below). Either proposal involves little to no new construction, but entails operating Metra's existing Electric Line more like a rapid transit line, by running trains more frequently (every ten minutes between 6am and midnight) and providing reduced-fare transfers to CTA buses and trains. Unlike the current Metra service, which often bypasses low-traffic stations in Chicago to reach suburban stations more quickly, the Gold Line would make all stops within the city. The route would run along the Metra Electric Line's South Chicago Branch, running from Millennium Station in the city center southwards until a terminus at South Chicago (93rd Street). Estimates for bringing the line into operation place the cost at $160 million.[59] Since the Gold Line was proposed, the idea of providing rapid transit service along Chicago's south lakefront has spread, and gained considerable support from neighborhoods along its route. Despite its popular support, officials from CTA and Metra have largely dismissed the plan, choosing to focus on other expansion projects. In response to this and other concerns, in 2009 the RTA and the Chicago Department of Transportation authorized $450,000 for a "South Lakefront Corridor Study" (for Summer 2010) that is anticipated to yield either one or two new transit projects that are eligible for Federal transit funding.[60] This study has not yet been completed, but it may recommend a new service that is similar to the Gold Line proposal.

Gray Line, The CTA Gray Line Project [11], created in 1996 would utilize all of the in-city Metra Electric District services (the Kensington, South Chicago, and Blue Island routes), while the Gold Line would operate between the South Chicago branch and downtown. The Gray Line would have CTA fare vending and collection equipment installed, and CTA Customer Assistants manning all the Gray Line stations during all train operating hours, while the Gold Line is not specific on these issues. It is thought that by the Gray Line proposal utilizing existing CTA fare structures, fare instruments, and procedures; it would reduce any confusion caused by trying some new hybrid fare format or structure. It is also thought that having the stations manned by CTA (or security) personnel - such as all other CTA 'L' stations are during all train operating hours - would greatly increase security for riders and system infrastructure. The Gray Line project is included in the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning's Regional Transportation Plan [12] and is supported by many local organizations: [13][14] Recently, CTA has proposed a new "Gray Line LRT" [15] service, utilizing light-rail technology, and including a new Stony Island Branch. I think I should clarify. When I suggested posting your proposed changes and additions to the Chicago 'L' article concerning the Gray Line to the talk page, I meant the Chicago 'L' talk page.
