Help me!

[edit]

Hi, I am creating a Wikipedia page and have a question about creating footnotes. Most of the ones I've made look fine, but a few have this: Check date values in: |access-date= (help) The dates are spelled correctly so I'm not understanding the issue.

Please help me with...

Are you using visual or source editor? --Ⓩⓟⓟⓘⓧ (talk) 15:41, 22 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Zppix: no, I didn't use that. I just added the information by going to the templates, cite web and then insert the information. Most of the sources look fine, but a few show that warning in red that there is something wrong with date. CJM123 (talk) 21:26, 22 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The "access date" parameter is meant for the date when the linked web page was accessed and found to display the content we want to cite. For some of the sources that date is in the 1980s or 1990s, or when there is no web page linked to at all. I rather doubt websites existed back then, making the accessdate nonsensical. If you want to provide the date a source is written, the parameter is merely "date" (maybe you'll need to check the "extra fields" to find that parameter). Hello, I recently added a couple references to Wikipedia pages today, but now that I view them, I don't see the edits I made. Can you provide me with some information on that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by CJM123 (talkcontribs) 01:37, January 22, 2019 (UTC)

Let me be blunt here: You were adding linkspam, lots of links to the same website even if they contributed little or nothing to the article you added them to. Wikipedia does not look kindly on spam, including this kind. Huon (talk) 00:31, 3 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
