File permission problem with File:CCVFD1251A.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:CCVFD1251A.JPG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. fetch·comms 21:42, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If the person or bot who tagged this for deletion would take a look at the name of the webmaster, and the aricle the image is attached to, he'd be able to see that the image(which has been renamed File:Chaires-Capitola VFD - Air, Power & Light Trailer.jpg) belongs to the person who posted it. ----DanTD (talk) 22:14, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
CCVFD, hi there. The problem with this image is, it says the origin is "Department Photo", and therefore we need to know that you are in a position to release it under the licence given. The best way to do this is, if you could send an email through the OTRS system, using the specific text in User:Chzz/help/myboilerplate (filling in the actual name of the uploaded pic, and your name/date), to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org
If you can do that, please let me know the email is on its way, on my own talk page. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  19:45, 21 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I just tried to contact the uploader through their website, and they don't have an e-mail address. But they do have a phone number. It should still be pretty easy to figure out that "CCVFDWebmaster" is either the chief or a volunteer of the Chaires-Capitola Volunteer Fire Department. ----DanTD (talk) 13:04, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
UPDATE - I called the fire department about this image this morning, and just receieved a return call from them a few minutes ago. I tried to explain the situation, and they said they know who posted this and should send the evidence of permission today. So don't delete this just yet. ----DanTD (talk) 21:30, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
UPDATE #2' - This could've been saved, but obviously no administrators were paying attention. ----DanTD (talk) 01:31, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, CCVFDWebmaster, may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it represents a group or organisation. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may file for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account and use that for editing. Thank you. Acather96 (talk) 07:04, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because your username, CCVFDWebmaster, does not meet our username policy.

Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.

You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:

  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you feel that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. -- Cirt (talk) 06:25, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Greetings: I am the Executive Board President for the Chaires-Capitola Volunteer Fire Department. This account was created to allow indicate any changes made to the page representing the Chaires-Capitola VFD to be considered credible and accurate. I only found out about the block during a routine annual deep search of the web about our department. I would request that the name be restored and the images that were removed also be restored. We do not plan to use Wikipedia to be a promotional device, we are solely concerned that the department's information be presented as accurately as possible.

Decline reason:

No, I'm sorry. The name appears to represent (and fairly obviously does represent) an organisation. It therefore fails WP:USERNAME. Before you request a new name that does not appear to represent the organisation, I would ask you if you understand that accounts at Wikipedia are for individuals only, and must not be used by more than one person. If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Sorry, I don't think you've got it. The webmaster bit wasn't mentioned specifically, although it ought to go as it implies possible authority here (even though so far as I know we don't actually have one - many people wouldn't know that. The bit objected to was 'CCVFD' (or any similar reference to the department). I would like an answer to my other point above, too, please. I would point out too that anyone may edit the article, and that this may lead to information that you and the Board don't like being there - so long as it is duely referenced. The images were removed because they are believed to be copyright, or at least of unknown status. I'm no expert on images, so when we get the rest of this sorted I'll find someone who is expert to explain. Peridon (talk) 19:47, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

unblock-un|VFD-LT-12-05 | This should eliminate any references to representing any particular organization. As VFD indicates that I am just a member of ANY volunteer Fire Department, LT indicates I hold a Lieutenants rank in whatever department I am in and 12-05 is my badge #. I understand that Wikipedia is a site that is maintained by the public at large, but it is our intent to assure that only accurate and verifiable information is provided. I am not concerned with the specific details of the information just that it is factual. Insofar as the pictures are concerned they are photos of our vehicles that have been taken by the department and the department allows the use of the photos in any public venue that represents our department this includes news articles, media distributions, advertising, websites, etc.

Snag is, we can only use copyright stuff if it's licensed to us under Creative Commons - see WP:COPYVIO for more details. If you took some pics yourself and uploaded them as your own work, I think that's OK. So long as they don't appear on the Dept's site before they're here. After they're here, you can use them there as we're freely licensed. Silly, isn't it? But lawyers make a lot of money oyt of things like this. Peridon (talk) 20:50, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
