Hi Bun, I liked your edits on Education in Sri Lanka, but you need to clean it up. Remove your uses of I, our and other first person pronouns, as well as making sure you put spaces in between words! Thanks and happy editing! :) xxpor ( Talk | Contribs ) 22:03, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Lionel ranwala.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. feydey 23:36, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Lionel ranwala.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. feydey 23:36, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sir Lanka actors

[edit]

Hello and thank you for contributing to Wikipedia.

I have noticed that you have added several stubs on Sri Lankan to wikipedia without anyfurther content. You should note that t hese articles are very likely going to be deleted since they are of no real value to the Wikipedia. If you have more text to add, try to defer the save until you have typed the actual text. If you have any further questions, please contact me at my talk page.Travelbird 23:39, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted your edit of LTTE

[edit]

Hi, I reverted your edit of LTTE, where you labeled them as "terrorist". Some view the LTTE as a terror organisation, some dont (among them the state of Sri Lanka). Wikipedia as a encyclopedia should present both views, and does - as the article clearly shows that LTTE is banned in the US, India and EU. At the same time LTTE is not banned in Sri Lanka, as it is generally viewed as the organisation the government needs to talk with to achieve peace.

I hope you go on editing on Wikipedia, but please check out articles history and use the discussion page before doing changes to controversial articles. Ulflarsen 09:31, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This user ((User:Ulflarsen|Ulflarsenis)) is slightly insane. He keeps reverting everything (which are facts) that is said against LTTE. Watch out!!

Good question about LTTE

[edit]

Well done!! watch out for this user Ulflarsen he doesnt know what the fuck he is talking about. He is totally biased towards LTTE. when you put up facts on the artical he either deleats them or keep it in the talk page arguing with no facts. So watch out. And great work again :)

License tagging for Image:SarasaviyaFilmFestival.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:SarasaviyaFilmFestival.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 20:11, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Cricket photos

[edit]

Hello Bun,

I just noticed the cricket photos you'd uploaded. You labelled them with the {{cc-by-2.5}} licence but on Flickr they're labelled "All Rights Reserved", which means that we can't use them here. They will be deleted in seven days unless you can get permission from the photographer by then.

Thanks,

Stephen Turner (Talk) 00:07, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

More photos

[edit]

Also you labelled Image:Lionel ranwala.jpg as {{copyrightedFreeUse}} but there is no evidence on the source site that this is the case. And you labelled Image:Rukmani Devi.jpg as {{Promophoto}} but that can only be used when you got the image from a press kit not a newspaper. So I've listed them both as suspected copyright violations at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2006 July 31/Images. You can dispute the designation there if you wish, but otherwise they will be deleted in seven days or shortly after.

Thanks,

Stephen Turner (Talk) 00:29, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've developed a few suggestions for the improvement of an article which you initially created in early-August 2007. From my perspective, two areas which seem to deserve revisiting are:

My editing strategy was informed by articles about other academics, like Prof. Karunaratne, whose work has been noticed and honored by the Japanese government:

Proposed deletion of List of schools in Sri Lanka

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article List of schools in Sri Lanka, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

This list a impractical list to maintain, Sri Lanka has more than 10,000 schools.. it would be impossible to maintain such list in wikipedia. I believe this list is against the guidelines of WP:LIST and WP:NOTDIR

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Hello Bun! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to this article, it would greatly help us with the current 4 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:25, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Community User Group Sri Lanka

[edit]
Dear Bun,

Thank you for your contributions to the Wikimedia Projects. As an editor from Sri Lanka, you are warmly invited to join the official Wikimedia Community User Group Sri Lanka and to subscribe to its mailing list, Wikimedia-LK.

The user group currently includes volunteers from Wikipedia and other projects, from the English, Sinhala, and Tamil speaking communities. It is the Wikimedia-approved platform for editors from Sri Lanka to enable wider collaboration, for both online and offline projects.

With your support, we hope to organize cross-project content improvement drives as part of online projects, as well as organize in-person edit-a-thons, training sessions, photowalks, and other such activities, in the near future. The ultimate goal(s) of these initiatives is to improve the overall coverage and quality of topics relating to Sri Lanka, as well as encourage new editors to join the Wikimedia community, while simultaneously empowering and retaining our existing team of editors.

There are no mandatory obligations for members who choose join the community, other than the usual editing rules for online projects, and the friendly space policy for in-person projects. You may also (or instead) subscribe to the mailing list, where any member could initiate discussions with volunteers across projects, notify members of events and meetings, stay up to date with competitions, organize your own events, and so on.

See you on board, and Happy Editing!
