My email appeal to Yunshui

[edit]

Hi Yunshui,

I hope you're having a great day. I'm sending you this email to appeal an action you took on the Johnny Manziel page.

Because of Manziel's increasing popularity in recent weeks, his page has been increasingly vandalized, and yesterday you saw that a big edit war erupted in response to content added by Awdrev1985 related to Manziel being arrested last June. I appreciate you temporarily protecting the page. Action of this kind was needed, but I appeal to you that the level of protection is too high.

I plead with you to change the level of protection from fully protected to semi-protected, or at the very least to allow me to edit the page in it's protected state. Please consider my case by continuing to read below:

After Awdrev1985 posted the controversial content on the Johnny Manziel page, I interacted with him by posting a message on his talk page. I also invited him to post his comments on the Johnny Manziel talk page.

If you do a little research in the edit history and my interaction with Awdrev1985 on his talk page, you'll find that I was not part of the melee. You'll notice that I did not delete Awdrev1985's submission, and even cleaned it up a little. I have worked hard to improve the quality of the Johnny Manziel page and to uphold Wikipedia principles in the editing process, which includes dealing properly with information added that I may not like.

This morning, I was going to add to the personal section where the controversial content is located. The timing of my edit is very important right now, and to find out that I am not able to make the edit was disappointing to me.

I am one of the primary contributors to the page and have been working on it for several weeks now. I have a plan for more edits today and in coming days, but the relevance of the edits will diminish each passing day. To wait 2-3 more days is too long.

I have been trying to be a good Wikipedian, and I have been trying to foster a respectful collaborative effort on the page. I have tried to increase the awareness of the Johnny Manziel talk page by referring to the talk page in some of my Edit Summary statements.

In light of this case as presented, again, would you please consider changing the fully protected status of the page to semi-protected, or make me an editor of the page in its protected state? Thank you for your consideration.

Respectfully yours,

John Schmid, a.k.a. BroJohnE

Article is now semi-protected, explanation on my talkpage. Yunshui  11:04, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Settle down

[edit]

Easy. He wasn't on the teamplates so I removed them. Pretty standard stuff since templates are navigation aids. John David Crow won the Heisman for A&M over 50 years ago and wasn't on the template (and still isn't as I write this). If you want to add Heisman winners to those two templates, great - but it was obvious they weren't included previously. It's pretty common for people to add templates as "banners" to articles when that isn't generally what they are for so I assumed this was the case here too. If you want to add him to them, great, knock yourself out, but spare me the accusatory messages on my talk page. You and I have never had any interaction and your "first contact" being that message was inappropriate on your part. Rikster2 (talk) 06:50, 9 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

BroJohnE, you should be aware that your additions of Heisman winners to the A&M navbox were deleted. The reason given was a consensus that I believe neither exists nor applies to the navbox. If you would like to discuss the most appropriate categories and wikilinks in the navbox so as to direct readers to the best possible understanding of the topic of Texas A&M Aggie football, we can start a discussion on the talk page of the navbox, or alternatively, this could be done at the talk page of Wikipedia:WikiProject Texas A&M. IMO,the goal should be constructing the best navigation tool for the reader. Just let me know if you are interested. CrazyPaco (talk) 06:11, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, BroJohnE. I'm BlueAg09, one of the Aggie editors on here. I just wanted to recognize your work in expanding the Johnny Manziel article by giving you a barnstar. Thank you for your contributions, and gig 'em.
