Hi Brian, I don't know whether you're aware of WikiProjects and, in particular, the one on opera. Being a member of the project doesn't affect what you can or cannot do, but you're clearly a knowledgeable enthusiast and it would be good to have you involved in our discussions. Feel free to click the above link for the project description and have a look at out discussion page too.--Peter cohen 07:43, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of Interest

[edit]

According to wp:COI:

"Closeness to a subject does not mean you're incapable of being neutral, but it may incline you towards some bias. Be guided by the advice of other editors. If editors on a talk page suggest in good faith that you may have a conflict of interest, try to identify and minimize your biases, and consider withdrawing from editing the article. As a rule of thumb, the more involvement you have with a topic in real life, the more careful you should be with our core content policies—Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, Wikipedia:No original research, and Wikipedia:Verifiability—when editing in that area."

I believe you are editing in good faith and improving the encyclopedia. Thanks for improving the Wikipedia:Neutral point of view yourself. I am glad to have someone of your knowledge and expertise working on articles in your field, but please be careful when editing articles related to yourself. I am assuming that you are The Brian Morgan. It would help other editors if you declared a potential conflict on the talk page of the article in question.

Love your work

Thank you, sir, and I will keep your sagacious advice in mind for the future! Ephraem 20:29, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Phantom recordings

[edit]

User talk:151.56.11.27 is the editor on the Mefistofele article. But on the La sonnambula article, with the 1986 so-called Abbado recording, a different (but very similar) IP user is continuing to post. It is User talk:151.56.6.249. Any ideas if this is also "phantom"? I find no evidence of it anywhere. The same applies to 1989 Bernstein recording on Adriana Lecouvreur. Viva-Verdi (talk) 17:04, 9 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Médée" and "Mefistofele" are on my Watch List, not the others. But I can assure you, without even looking at the articles in question, that Claudio Abbado never recorded "La sonnambula," and Leonard Bernstein certainly never went near "Adriana Lecouvreur"! Ephraem 20:21, 9 August 2014 (UTC)

Therefore, I have removed these recordings from the relevant articles. Via "who is", both IPs come from the same Milan location. Thanks Ephraem, I shall refer any future suspicions directly to you! Viva-Verdi (talk) 20:32, 9 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Take a look at User talk:151.56.11.27's page. He/she has now created a "The list of non existent recording" on his/her Talk page!! What nonsense! Viva-Verdi (talk) 19:19, 11 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Cannot something be done to ban this person? Ephraem 19:22, 11 August 2014 (UTC)

I've started to take some action. Here's notification source.
Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you.Viva-Verdi (talk) 21:31, 11 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Most probably it is the same "editor" - using a slightly different IP address - who has started up again. I reverted his/her edits on Andrea Chenier the other day, and today an addition appears to the La Wally article. They are all DG recordings! It is User talk:151.56.8.23. Maybe you can take a look, and assuming it's not real - revert the addition and then leave another message on the Talk page, and we'll build a case against him/her for blocking. Best, Viva-Verdi (talk) 17:05, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, it's fictional, all right. Ephraem 22:41, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

Well, today there's a 1976 DG recording which this IP person has changed a bit. Is that fake as well? Viva-Verdi (talk) 15:48, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fake. Ephraem 19:39, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

Problem with your custom signature

[edit]

You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. A change to Wikipedia's software has made your current custom signature incompatible with the software.

The problem: Your preferences are set to interpret your custom signature as wikitext. However, your current custom signature does not contain any wikitext.

The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, or you can fix your signature.

Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:
  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Remove anything in the Signature: text box. (It might already be empty.)
  4. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (The red "Restore all default settings" button will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)
Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:
  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page.

More information about custom signatures is available at Wikipedia:Signatures#Customizing how everyone sees your signature. If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures. 19:04, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

Custom signature fix needed

[edit]

Hi there! You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. Changes to Wikipedia's software have made your current custom signature invalid.

The problem: Your signature contains a syntax error or obsolete HTML tags.

The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, you can fix your signature, or you can do nothing.

Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:

  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Remove anything in the Signature: text box.
  4. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (Do not click the red "Restore all default settings" button, which will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)

Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:

  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Click the Learn more button next to the error to learn how to fix the error.
  3. Update your signature to fix the error.
  4. Click Save to update to your newly fixed signature.

Solution 3: Do nothing:

  1. In accordance with a recent request for comment, all invalid signatures will be changed to the default, which looks like "Example (talk)", one month from now.

If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures. Thank you! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 06:05, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:18, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Africo Baldelli moved to draftspace

[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to Africo Baldelli. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit for review" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. CycloneYoris talk! 03:03, 9 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

He is a relatively obscure artist, though an important one in the opera world. I was able, through months of searching, turn up only three, whixh is more than many similar articles on facebook. I feel it should be published, and perhaps Italian sources may then follow. Brian Joseph Morgan (talk) 03:12, 9 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Please help

[edit]

Thank you for the work you put into the article of Paul Plishka! I noted your name when I decided to include in those who recently died to be mentioned on the Main page. Everything has to be referenced to achieve that. You reverted my attempt to reference the recordings. I am aware that Mr. Salazar is not the greatest reference. Please supply a better one. It could be as easy as adding the mentioned Met encyclopedia once on top of all recordings, - if it is the source - which I can't tell.

I have no explanation for not linking the great colleagues to whom he was connected. You and I know what Sills means, but Wikipedia is an offer for everybody. Please help.

Some of the phrasing in Salazar is awfully close to our article, and I can't tell if Salazar copied from us or if both copied from the same source, in which case we need to rephrase. Do you know? -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:10, 9 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

In my experience, discographies are not the place for full names, but for surnames. I originally compiled it, from my collection, etc.
I do not want to have an argument about it, so if you insist, do it your way. I will withdraw completely, although I have contributed quite a bit to Wikipedia over many years, and have published three books on opera, which include quite a few discographies. Brian Joseph Morgan (talk) 01:09, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't want an argument, but to understand. You reverted without an edit summary, so I wondered why, and if I had done something wrong.
  • Surnames: we could still leave it with just surnames, but provide links.
  • We could move some full names to the prose section. Over the last few days, some names went there, giving an indication of the great colleagues he worked with.
  • We need some reference beyond your valuable personal research, - that is Main page standard. (If you don't like it, it could be removed after that. Today is the last day for him to get accepted or not.) Only few are missing if we accept Salazar for those missing anything else, - perhaps you can add there, such as the video of Cenerentola not marked [live] while the other videos are now covered as broadcasts. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:48, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you for having "opened" La Cenerentola, but we must have had a misunderstanding. Repeating: "We need some reference ..." - everything linked from the main page needs an inline citation. There is a review checking that, and please don't add information afterwards without reference, nor remove other references. I found one for the DVD, please check it, and if you have a better one, please replace, and if you want to write a full sentence about this singular recording, go ahead. If you have references for recordings commented out, that would help! Edith Mathis died, missing links, missing references, missing facts: I will be busy there today. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:17, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that reference regarding "La cenerentola" seems correct. Thank you. Brian Joseph Morgan (talk) 16:14, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Could you perhaps supply a review or two? The New York Times is difficult for me. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:51, 9 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

By some miracle I can now see the NYT, and added from it, - please check. It even includes quotations from reviews. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:48, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Could you perhaps write a short section about his voice? I'm not a native English speaker, so would have trouble ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:03, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I will try to do so. Brian Joseph Morgan (talk) 19:18, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
