National and University Library "St. Kliment of Ohrid"

[edit]

I think you misunderstand. It is illegal to use copyrighted text, which this clearly is. I know that isn't always enforced on the internet, but Wikipedia takes intellectual property theft very seriously, and any copies or close paraphrases of websites that are not clearly and explicitly marked as public domain must be removed. To avoid copyright infringement, it would need to be rewritten from scratch, changing the odd sentence won't solve the problem.

Furthermore, the deleted copyright text is not neutral and encyclopaedic. It is promotional in tone and doesn't give any independent sources, Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:59, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The copied page is clearly marked as © National and University Library "St. Kliment Ohridski" 2001.. I doesn't matter even if pages are not marked as copyright, like the macedonian one you linked, the assumption is that the creator owns the copyright unless it's clearly and explicitly marked as public domain. The very first thing your friend needs to know is that you have to write Wikipedia article in your own words, not just lift them from anywhere you fancy. It's not biting to enforce a legal requirement Jimfbleak - talk to me? 07:27, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It occurs to me that Macedonian law may be different, although I'd be surprised if there is no copyright protection there. However, the Wikipedia servers are in the US, so it's their law that applies Jimfbleak - talk to me? 07:30, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited National and University Library "St. Kliment of Ohrid", you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page IFLA (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
