Concordia
[edit]It's very nice that the lads did such a good job. But, in 100 years of school history, although it's notable, it's not THAT notable!
And is it important enough to justify stuffing up another part of the article? (Answer: No, it isn't.)
By all means add something appropriate. But make sure it's "appropriate". And make sure it doesn't stuff up any other part of the article. Pdfpdf (talk) 12:22, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- What are you trying to achieve? If you tell me, I'm more than happy to help. Pdfpdf (talk) 13:39, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
we just wanted to put up some information about the championship win, instead ive created an actual article for the boys instead ...http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/2009_Concordia_College_Basketball_Knockout_Champions if a link could go onto the schools page that would be cool...
- 1) (First, and least important, (but still important), please "sign" your contributions with ~~~~ )
- 2) Hmmm. Well, good work, and good try. And as I said, I'm happy to help.
- However, I'm personally not convinced it's "notable". (i.e. Have a look at WP:N.)
- So unfortunately, it's quite likely that someone less supportive than me will come along and nominate the article for deletion. In which case I'll try to help, but ...
- 3) "if a link could go onto the schools page that would be cool... " - That's easy, if I know what you want - which I don't. I've had a "play" and made some guesses. Tell me what you think about them. (They are, by NO means "carved in stone".) Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 14:15, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
That's looking good, and nobody has given you a hard time about Notability, either.
Well done! Pdfpdf (talk) 12:20, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
yeah cheers im thinking of adding some more interesting stuff... like stats from the games or something
Notability
[edit]You may remember that I mentioned above that I had little confidence that the article would survive, (point #2 above), and that I was surprised that "nobody has given you a hard time about Notability"?
For your information, one of my wiki-colleagues has asked me: "Do you think that the Concordia College basketball team article is going to survive?" My answer to my colleague was: "No. In fact, I'm astounded that it's still there."
In other words, two experienced (but benevolent) editors expect that "a snowball in hell" has a better chance of a longer lifespan than the article. If you want the lifespan to be longer than that, when, (and note that I'm saying "when", not "if"), someone comes along and nominates the article for deletion, be prepared! Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 10:24, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
- P.S. If you find the above incomprehensible, ask me questions. As I've said before, I'm happy to help. But please note, I can't do the impossible. In other words, please read WP:N and think about it. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 10:24, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, I didn't think it was notable enough. I admire your efforts, but I hope you are able to stick around and use your obviously good editing skills for the good of the wikipedia project. Read up on the guidelines/policies on verifiability, notability and reliable sources and maybe spend some time improving existing articles for a while, rather than creating new ones. If you like basketball, we have a problem at the moment with unreferenced biographies of living people. We are trying to reference the almost 2000 Australian related articles by the end of Feb, and we are down to about 800 left. There are about 20 basketball related articles that need references - if you could help to copyedit and reference them, it would be a great help. If we don't reference them, there is a high probability that they will be deleted. Cheers, The-Pope (talk) 13:12, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
The article 2009 Concordia College Basketball Knockout Champions has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Junior school competition with no independent coverage. Copy and paste it to your school newspaper/website. Not notable enough for an encyclopedia.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. The-Pope (talk) 13:00, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
