The Man and the Journey
[edit]Hey, nice job on that article, I've been waiting for someone knowledgeable about the subject to do that (which you obviously are). Nice work. --Alcuin 03:26, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
NIN
[edit]Good luck with the article, and I hope it reaches whatever standard you've set yourself for it. I hope you can set your sites to other NIN articles sometime, as they're in need of TLC. LuciferMorgan 03:56, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'll try, if my head doesn't blow up during finals this semester. BotleySmith 18:27, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
- Lol, make sure your studies are your first priority. Good luck with the semester. LuciferMorgan 19:08, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
I was just coming by to wish the same. I just had a look and it looks to be at another level from where it was a few weeks back. Good luck. Seegoon 00:03, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
There's really nothing more that needs doing in terms of the band logo or the album covers (if somebody nevertheless asks for more on an album cover, see Image:The Whole Of The Moon Waterboys Album Cover.jpg as a model). Image:Ninmarch06.jpg, on the other hand, is somewhat troublesome. How do we know that this photograph comes with an implicit license to redistribute (your point number two of the fair use rationale)? What makes us sure that this is meant for press use, as opposed to being an attractive photograph to help drive traffic to the band's website? Further, it would be entirely reasonable for someone to argue that it is replaceable, especially given that the band continues to perform. Flickr currently has three hundred CC-BY images tagged "Nine Inch Nails" (and twenty four CC-BY-SA ones). From a brief glance, a lot of these are either very dark photographs of the backs of people's heads or mislabelled album cover photographs, but, still, we should be able to find something useful. The de: article is using Image:NineInchNails.jpg, for instance. I imagine that Image:Ninmarch06.jpg will get deleted sooner or later as part of the {{promotional}} cleanup that has begun, so I'd really recommend finding a replacement for it. Jkelly 18:50, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- I went through this with The Waterboys, and I will admit that finding freely licensed photographs of a reasonable quality was a time investment. That said, I've had a lot of success asking people to donate their images, either by messaging them through Flickr, posting requests on fan forums, or sending out Wikipedia:Boilerplate requests for permission to website owners. Getting freely licensed media is rewarding though -- once it is done, it isn't going to get deleted in some fair use crackdown, and it can be used by every project, not just en. Let me know if I can be of help. Jkelly 19:11, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- If you get any releases, make sure to forward them to permissions AT wikimedia DOT org. If you let me know that you've done so, I can keep an eye out for them. Jkelly 19:25, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
Your edits to Year Zero (album)
[edit]I'm sorry I had to widescale revert your edit, but there should not be any carriage returns in the reference template we're using on the page, per Wikipedia:Embedded citations. I tried the same thing over in the Brett Favre article, and I was shot down for it. Feel free to add your other changes back in, but don't change the warning in the tracklisting section. The bigger and more noticeable it is, the less likely it is that these rabid NIN fans will add in the info that we can't have. Thanks. –King Bee (T • C) 19:14, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
- As I said above, feel free to put your other edits back in. I just reverted your changes because I didn't want to manually go back through again and erase the carriage returns that should not have been added. I am not going to put your edits back in; you have the ability to do that yourself. –King Bee (T • C) 06:18, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

NIN FAC
[edit]Dude! Help me out at the NIN FAC! I'm getting eaten alive over there. I could use some help. Drewcifer 21:02, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- I fixed one of the complaints but I'm pressed for time - school starts again tomorrow. BotleySmith 22:20, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- No worries, I understand. Also, as far as the YZ ARG template goes, the BYIT article mentions that only HDDVD and Blu-Ray have the messages (thought it may be in order to make that clearer in the BYIT article itself). So why go into that much detail in the template? The template's just meant to be an organizer of sorts, not to actually tell you that much - that's what the article is for, right? Drewcifer 22:26, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- My intentions were to quickly clarify that the actual video content is not part of the ARG (contrary to what some fans have alleged). BotleySmith 18:29, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- But wouldn't it be better to go into that kind of detail on the BYIT article rather than the template. All the template is really saying is that BYIT is in some way involved in the ARG. If we went into that much detail for BYIT, we should also say that only the Survivalism video was part of the ARG, not the physical single. But that is expressed clearly engouh in the Survivalism page. Maybe we should fix up the BYIT page rather than add the format stuff to the template? Drewcifer 20:05, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- Except it's not... the "Survivalism" single does have morse code on the packaging, not to mention there's a link to the ARG websites in the PDF lyrics from iTunes. The BYIT debate isn't really verifiable though, so I felt it was best to just specify what product was specifically involved. BotleySmith 22:03, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, the Survivalism thing was a bad example. But what do you mean by the BYIT debate isn't verifiable? Drewcifer 23:37, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- It was largely a product of web fora like ETS and The Spiral. BotleySmith 13:33, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
- Howabout this [1]? It's not the perfect source, but it's definitely verifiable and reliable. Drewcifer 19:26, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Freakin' Sweet
[edit]God work yourself on getting NIN to FA. It was certainly quite the journey. So what's next NIN-wise? I've got Nine Inch Nails discography and Numbers in the Year Zero alternate reality game up at FLC right now (hint hint, if you got a second I'd appreciate your input on both FLCs). Anyways, awesome work, and keep it up! Drewcifer 05:11, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
I just noticed that NIN finally got promoted to FA. Very well done. Congrats! Tabanger 11:40, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
NIN Wikiproject
[edit]I'd like to invite you to join the newly-formed Nine Inch Nails WikiProject. There's alot of NIN-related articles on Wikipedia that could use a little attention, and I hope this project can help organize an effort to improve them. So please, take a look and if you like what you see, help me get this project of the ground and a few Nine Inch Nails pages into the front ranks of Wikipedia articles. Thanks! NIN article
[edit]why did you change "Nine inch nails are " to "Nine inch nails is " ?
It is a collective noun, which is different in British and American English, In British English a band is treated as plural, but in American English it is treated as singular...however when the name is plural ie. Nine Inch Nails/The Beatles then it is treated as plural in both American and British English. http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/American_and_British_English_differences#Formal_and_notional_agreement
If you have any edits that you wish to make regarding grammar, why don't you research a little first, this will prevent you making mistakes. Sennen goroshi (talk) 05:12, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
I have no problem with it being treated as singular if there is a good enough reason, I don't really care about consensus, facts are more important than consensus, however I am yet to find something that says as far as grammar is concerned, it should be treated as singular, apart from notes on a CD. Is there something you can point me to, which will prove to me that the name should be treated as singular, not plural. I am trying to keep my British English out of this, as they are an American band, but to me "is" sounds so damn wrong. The fact that it isnt "The Nine Inch Nails" does not seem relevant, I won't revert this for the time being, as it would be nice if this could be cleared up.Sennen goroshi (talk) 16:14, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Your point is kinda valid, because as far as I'm concerned, NIN are one man. I am still not sure if my edit was based on grammar, or my British English.hmmmm, anyway until such time as I have total proof either way, I won't be reverting it.Sennen goroshi (talk) 16:28, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:ThisWreckage.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:ThisWreckage.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 02:49, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
NIN live performances
[edit]I was wondering if you could do me a favor. CurrentlyNine Inch Nails live performances is at FAC, and one of the reviewers has asked for a copyedit from an uninvolved 3rd-party (so I think he just wants someone other then me to do a copyedit). Do you think you could help me out and go through the article a bit and clean up any language problems you might see? If not, no big deal, but I would appreciate it. You are now a Reviewer
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Karanacs (talk) 17:05, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:Wish.ogg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Wish.ogg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 21:17, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
