Podgorica and the country of birth for the footballers

Note: when editing articles on persons born in the former yugoslavia, please do not remove the country name as their place of birth. We observe a policy which adheres to historical accuracy, and for the same reasons, Podgorica as a birthtown was known as Titograd until 1992, so only for persons born after that time do you begin to use Podgorica, and only with the relevant country name, which could have been Serbia and Montenegro for the 2003-2006 period. Furthermore, do not blank infoboxes which are installed for a purpose; persistence in these areas may be considered vandalism, especially if you have not used the talk pages to discuss your proposals. If you fail to do this then the rest of your edits will also be reverted; your aim may be to appear constructive but certain continued habits could render them all vandalism. I have added Yugoslavia as country of birth to every relevant subject you have edited; I originally blanked all of your edits but as the list grew, I stuck to replacing the name so as to keep your positive edits intact. To that end, if you remove the country of birth, it will be considered vandalism: if you are unhappy with certain elements, such as the Podgorica issue - and you feel that it is today's information which is relevant - then the procedure is to edit the article and add the information without removing the already published factual information; this is an encyclopaedia and we are here to provide people with information. Just in case your sentiment is one of rejection towards the old country and your wish is to remove it from the subject's details, it is already a lost cause: Wikipedia names thousands of individuals born in defunct countries, particularly those who lived in historic times: any attempts to interfere with them and their regular monitors will have you blocked before you can hit the "Send" button. I completely understand now. I wasn't aware of that historic rule, I am new to editing on Wikipedia. As for the player's infoboxes, I thought it was better to delete them if they are lacking information, for example if I see "??" everywhere on it. If you think it is better to have an infobox, then I can make one for every player. My edits englobe the club soccer side of Wikipedia and I like to add information on the Serbian domestic league, teams and players. Thanks for bringing back Yugoslavia for every player and that won't be a problem anymore. Hopefully we will get along in the future. Boris4c 00:08, 20 July 2008 (CET)

I have every certainty that we will get along. Your knowledge on these footballers is impressive and your contributions are precisely what the site needs - so well done to you. I just wanted to let you know one small thing: the addition of historical names of towns and countries is not a rule, here on Wikipedia there are no strict rules which say "you must present it like this, or like that!" When you start writing an article, you provide any information you like. It is not even necessary to include a subject's birth details; I mean, you may not even know what these are when starting to write about someone but atleast you know a certain player has played for Zvezda for two seasons and he started his career at Zeta etc. Then as someone acquires his birth details, he or she may add them at will. But again, how you present them is your choice! Observing historical accuracy is a more a preference than a rule, and even then, there are those who prefer the opposite! So to reach a compromise, we include both variations (then and now) into the text: that way it provides the reader with all information! And about the infoboxes: I see your point now, yes a lot of information is often incomplete. When someone displays "??", you are right about it looking tacky. The fact is that the editor clearly didn't have that information when he created the infobox, and probably hoped that in time, someone will be able to find a source for that statistic. My advice is to edit it, and replace the question marks with "unknown", "unavailable" or even a blank. Infoboxes themselves have been a source of controversy anyhow, with some editors disliking them as they are non-encyclopaedic. Personally Boris4c, I like them because they can give you at a glance information, sometimes I may wish to know the national currency of a country, and it would be painful for the eyes to search for the country and scan the entire text looking for it! In the case of footballers, I often like to know the height of the player, that type of info is better served in the infoboxes. Obviously Boris (if i can call you Boris), if you feel that a certain section of an article (such as the infobox) needs to be removed, then the best thing to do is make a note of your suggestion on the talk page, let others have their say - and if nobody has responded after a couple of days (or a time of your choice), then you are justified in removing that piece. Hi Evlekis, well I have been editing articles about domestic clubs from the Serbian Superliga who had short or non-existent articles (OFK Beograd, Radnicki Nis, Napredak Krusevac, etc.) by adding information about their history, youth clubs, fans and what not, and also a few players. I'm glad you ask if I problems because I do! You see, when there is a player infobox, there shouldn't be flags beside the names of the teams he played for because then the team names are not aligned with the years. Do you understand what I am saying? Articles about Vujadin Boskov, Dusan Bajevic, Ilija Petkovic and Radomir Antic all had flags and it didn't look good, so I took them off, but someone constantly brings them back. I've been hitting the undo button at least five times for each in the last two days. Does the person not see what the flags do in the infobox? How can I solve this problem? I hope you understand what I mean when I say they are not aligned. boris4c 13:36, 3 August 2007 (CET)

Try using a different browser (any version of FireFox or Internet Explorer 7). In IE 6 the flags are not alligned, so I suspect that it's your browser. I know I had the same problem when I used Internet Explorer version 6. Zvonko 20:08, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unfree images
