3RR
[edit]Boothy, just a friendly reminder that you need to be careful about violating WP:3RR. While doing RC patrol, I stumbled upon Fox Chase, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and noticed that you had reverted four times in less than 24 hours. In the future, please don't do this, unless it is a clear-cut case of simple vandalism. Thanks for all your hard work, and happy editing! Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk 21:29, 24 August 2005 (UTC)
- This would go for all the Philadelphia sections. Please discuss those changes on the talk page and do not violate 3RR. If you continue to do so, I will have no choice but to temporarily block you. Thanks! Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk 21:36, 24 August 2005 (UTC)
- Um no, considering that the move was never discussed in the first place, i see no point in discussing an improper move. So i'll just move it back to where it was in the first place. --Boothy443 | comhrÚ 21:40, 24 August 2005 (UTC)
- Boothy, please don't do that one more time. While I see your side, it really doesn't matter whether the redirect is "right" or "wrong"- WP:3RR clearly states that no revert is allowed after 3 reverts in a 24 hour time period, unless it is simple vandalism or self-reverts. I urge you to stop reverting and leave the editors who are reverting you a note in order to resolve your differences. If you continue to violate 3RR, I will block you. Thanks for your understanding. Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk 21:57, 24 August 2005 (UTC)
- NO, and you ovibously do not see my side, becaus if you did you you realise that the "enforcment" of this one sided policy is incorrect, but not as if i would expect anything different. --Boothy443 | comhrÚ 22:03, 24 August 2005 (UTC)
- I'm glad to see that you have stopped reverting the pages. One sided policy? Can you clarify that? Why do you feel that WP:3RR is one-sided? Thanks! Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk 22:05, 24 August 2005 (UTC)
You are in danger of violating the three revert rule. Please cease further reverts or you may be blocked from further editing. --Ryan Delaney talk 22:24, 24 August 2005 (UTC)
- Boothy, bud, just make it easy on yourself and leave it for a while. I don't know anything about the subject, but why don't you all start discussing the naming controversy on the relevant talk page, rather than getting into another edit war? The JPS 22:39, 24 August 2005 (UTC)
templates
[edit]Hi - I've done a fair amount with templates. What are you trying to do? -- Rick Block (talk) 03:45, August 25, 2005 (UTC)
- So, just to make sure I understand, you want the box where the flag and seal are to have only the seal (as in the current invocation), only the flag, both, or none - all depending on the presence of the "flag" and "seal" parameters? -- Rick Block (talk) 04:07, August 25, 2005 (UTC)
- I'll think about it. Do you know user:Rorro? S/he seems to be the creator of Template:If defined call1. Seems like you might need a variant. I haven't figured out exactly how Template:If defined call1 works yet. I'll think about and let you know if I figure out an answer. -- Rick Block (talk) 04:17, August 25, 2005 (UTC)
- No answer yet - still thinking. Per below, Radiant seems to think it's not a good idea anyway. I've asked what s/he'd suggest instead. I'll keep thinking, but I probably won't have much time until the weekend. Just letting you know current status. -- Rick Block (talk) 23:11, August 25, 2005 (UTC)

Trenton
[edit]Do you understand what ambiguity is? Having an article called "Trenton Rail Station" is a perfect example. Trenton is a disambiguation page because there are many places called Trenton. --SPUI (talk) 07:29, 25 August 2005 (UTC)
It's hella better than what you keep moving it to. --SPUI (talk) 07:46, 25 August 2005 (UTC)
I guess that works, though that station wasn't always the main one in Trenton. That could be disambigged though. --SPUI (talk) 07:48, 25 August 2005 (UTC)
Until around 1865, the Northeast Corridor between Trenton and Monmouth Junction was not built - instead the main line went along the Delaware and Raritan Canal. [1] shows the old station. There was also the Reading station at the end of the branch from West Trenton at Five Points, shown on [2] - that existed until that branch was abandoned. --SPUI (talk) 07:59, 25 August 2005 (UTC)
Rfa Voting
[edit]I know you have a tendency to oppose everyone, and I respect your right to vote the way you want. But, a lot of people are opposing Celestianpower's nomination. You could go with the flow and oppose, or you could make a statement and support her. Acetic Acid 08:13, August 25, 2005 (UTC)
- Scratch that. May I ask what your voting policy is? I see you support some people, while opposing others. Acetic Acid 08:16, August 25, 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you for responding. Those sound reasonable. I wish others knew you weren't acting in bad faith. Acetic Acid 08:47, August 25, 2005 (UTC)
- Hmmm... all right. Seems like a fair argument. I'm not sure if "Jimmy" is starting a cult, but whatever. By the way, it was hilarious that he clicked the gay porno link while at a conference. XD Good night Jason. Acetic Acid 08:57, August 25, 2005 (UTC)
- I thought he said someone else sent him an e-mail. They were monitoring your behavior or something. Then, he came across it by accident. Acetic Acid 09:01, August 25, 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah, that was bad timing on Jimbo's part. I think the only reason he removed the link was because it disables the computer temporarily (very difficult to close all the windows, may have to restart the computer). Anyway, I'll see you around, probably at the RfA. I do hope you don't oppose Asbestos' nom. But you have a right to vote however you want. Acetic Acid 08:50, August 26, 2005 (UTC)

Removed inappropriate link, blocked for 17 seconds
[edit]I removed a highly inappropriate link from your toolbox page and blocked you for 17 seconds as punishment. :-) Please don't do that again. I got a complaint and I'm at a Major International Corporation today getting donations for us to buy more servers, and they let me do email from here. And I got a complaint about your page. And I clicked on the link. And it was Not Work Safe. So, please, that's not the sort of thing we ought to be doing here.--Jimbo Wales 19:39, 23 August 2005 (UTC)
- I further strongly recommend that you do not place any offensive links on that page or I will remove them again. And I also recommend that you discuss this with me like a mature adult rather than insulting me, and that if you don't, you may be cordially invited to permanently leave the project, ok? We are trying to do something useful here; this is not your playground.--Jimbo Wales 15:05, 25 August 2005 (UTC)
- I am just curious if youplan on remove other "offencive" material from the user pages of others, i would have to say that is seriously doubtful, as for mature, i dont i didnt see you discussing it with me befor hand or asking me to remove it, how would you like it if i wnet to you page and started to remove things that i found offencive then tell you that, i am sure you would not, so no i dont consider your actions mature. So you keep on being a hippocrate and i'll keep on doing my thing. --Boothy443 | comhrÚ 21:48, 25 August 2005 (UTC)
- There's nothing to discuss about a link which causes dozens of popups and the computer to scream out 'Hey everybody, I'm looking at gay porn.' There is nothing hypocritical at all about my actions. If you see me doing something that ridiculous then by all means remove it from the page and ask someone to block me for 17 seconds. However, it's worth noting that I don't do such things in the first place, you see. :-)
- Do I plan on removing such things from other people's user pages? Yes, I do, if I come across them. I have never before seen anything so juvenile on a wikipedia user page, though.
- Remember what we are doing here. We are building a free encyclopedia for every single person on the planet. We are trying to do it in an atmosphere of fun, love, and respect for others. We try to be kind to others, thoughtful in our actions, and professional in our approach to our responsibilities. I encourage you to join us in that attitude, and drop the immature posturing, ok? It's more fun, believe me.--Jimbo Wales 16:49, 26 August 2005 (UTC)

I understand that you usually oppose RFA's, but I was wondering if you could perhaps take another look at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Rl. RI is basically identifying policy flaws in VFD, and others are opposing him for doing so!! He doesn't seem afraid not to follow the crowd. What you might find ammusing is that he had a 100% support vote (12!) until Spalsh opposed [3], then everyone followed suit!! In this case, then, your support vote would be making the point your opposing normally does. I think that makes sense... The JPS 21:02, 25 August 2005 (UTC)

Offensive links
[edit]Greetings. I'd like to ask you why you have links to shock sites on your toolbox. I know you know that they upset quite a few people, some of whom know what they are and some of whom don't. I don't know if you give any value to my opinion, but I'd like to ask you to take them off, for the same reason that I'd ask anyone who has content deliberately intended to shock, offend, or insult other users to remove it from their userpage. I believe it's detrimental to Wikipedia when someone has such things in their userspace, because it seems like a deliberate insult to everyone in the community who will come across it. I find it hard to work with someone who has stated the desire for me to "piss off", and by having that link it your user space it seems as if you're saying that to everyone. You make a lot of good contributions to Wikipedia, but things like this make it difficult for others to work with you despite that, and we are a community to build an encyclopedia, not just a bunch of people working alone who never come in contact with each other.
I'm not going to remove it from your page, but I'd really appreciate it if you would do so yourself. Mindspillage (spill yours?) 03:35, 26 August 2005 (UTC)

Nufy RFA

Wikimedia UK/Wikimania 2006
[edit]Hi, this is a circular to Wikipedians in Ireland to draw your attention to Wikimedia UK, where the establishment of a local Wikimedia chapter for the United Kingdom (and possibly for the Republic of Ireland) is being discussed. See the talk page, as well as the mailing list; a meetup will take place to discuss matters in London in September, for anyone who can get there. On another topic, plans are being drawn up for a UK bid for Wikimania 2006, which would be conveniently close to Ireland. On the other hand, Dublin's bid was one of the final three last year - might we bid again? --Kwekubo 03:43, 31 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit]I know it is a rare honour to get an RFA support vote from you. I am not quite sure what to make of it, since I have no clue why you supported me of all candidates. I have only ever come across you when checking out RFAs, and that gives a very incomplete picture. In fact, some of the comments in the current RFC on you suggest that your development as an editor was not entirely unlike mine (I don't know what to say there since you didn't provide your own perspective). I am impressed that you can continue doing good work while being the target of hostility from your fellow editors, and I hope you will find to a somewhat more communicative mode of operation in the future (except for the RFA, it worked for me). Anyhow, thanks for your vote, and good luck! Rl 10:35, 4 September 2005 (UTC)

I AM NOT PERFECT
[edit]but have been plagued with an admin who is harrassing me, and another editor who clearly has no NPOV on the subject he is writing about- he has links to the person he is editing about on his own website. They play music together, and the editor in question is a promoter for the subject in question. The subject is Biff Rose. Fcello has placed a block on the page. It needs it, but everytime the talk page temp page gets close to something resembling a compromise, invariably my edits are erased, as those of others who are disagree with the general tone of the article... and it all starts over again. I've also been contacted by two friends who have been banned because they're edits were in the same vein as my own. One is Bag of Donuts, and another is Mmmmmmbo. Both have opinions similar to mine. Am I talking with the right person? thanks even if I'm not. Venting sometimes does the trick.Jonah Ayers 08:03, 9 September 2005 (UTC)

discussion of bridge categories
[edit]I don't really know where to begin the discussion of the categorization of the bridges on the east coast. I have posted on individual category talk pages before, but I received no response. There are far too many toll bridge categories with one or two articles. These make it impossible to look at the list of bridges in a particular state. Even though it makes more categories for each particular article, I think it is cleaner to included each toll bridge article in Cat:Bridges in <state>, Cat:Toll roads in <state>. I also don't believe that "category:bascule bridges" should be broken down to basclue bridges by state. At some point all the divisions make the category meaningless. I have read Wikipedia:Categorization thorougly before comming to these conlusions. Let me know what your opinion is. Thanks! Cacophony 03:57, September 11, 2005 (UTC)
- A good example of this is Category:Toll roads in Illinois. There is a category for Toll Bridges in Illinois when there is only one article in that category. Why not just add it to toll roads in Illinois, and bridges in Illinois, so that those categories aren't broken up? Cacophony 04:07, September 11, 2005 (UTC)
Many bridges are beset with many different views on how they should be categorized. The issue of category duplications has been discussed for many months at Wikipedia_talk:Categorization. I am hoping that people can take a look at Wikipedia_talk:Categorization#Updating_the_section_on_category_duplications. Thanks. -- Samuel Wantman 09:06, 11 September 2005 (UTC)

I wasn't going to mention the institution I'm at for residency (I never mentioned my college or medical school, I don't believe), although it's pretty obvious if I'm in Rochester, huh. Interstate-stub
[edit]Please stop removing the stub marker from all 200 Interstate articles. These stub templates are needed to let those on the Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Interstate Highways WP know which articles need work (i.e. routeboxes, which none of the articles you declassified have). Thank you. If you have any further questions you may direct them at [[Template_talk:Interstate-stub}}. --Rschen7754 02:39, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
I quote: "Another way to define a stub is that an article so incomplete that an editor who knows little or nothing about the topic could improve its content after a superficial internet search or a few minutes in a reference library is quite probably a stub. One that can only be improved by a rather knowledgeable editor, or after significant research, may not be a stub."
The routeboxes cam mostly be coded with information that is available on most state DOT sites or exit list sites. Most of this information is already in the article itself. Also, it is the general consensus of those who are involved with road WPs that these articles that do not follow their respective WP standards are considered stubs.
Simply put, I also do not have the time to go through all 200 articles and remove the tag. The tags will be removed gradually- as routeboxes are added and as articles are brought up to standards. --Rschen7754 03:17, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
If you're going to remove the stub could you at least put the {{cleanupint}} tag on the article? --Rschen7754 06:33, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

changed the link to JGDT
[edit]Hi. I deliberately changed Jane Gazzo's Dream Ticket article which I wrote originally, to a textual "Dream Ticket" in the BBC 6 Music page because Jane is leaving the show at the end of September and someone else will be coming in. I wanted to preserve her version of the show before the new host takes over. So I left the article "Jane Gazzo's Dream Ticket" hooked off her "Jane Gazzo" article for posterity as it was, and made a textual "Dream Ticket" line. I will be making a new "Dream Ticket" article based on any new format. So I will revert it back to the plain text and then add another article, or just leave it as plain text ("Dream Ticket") as is the style of the other show names. - Yes, thanks for your understanding. Jane's leaving in two weeks. Nemone Metaxas from BBC R1 will be presenting the Dream Ticket starting in October. Wikiklrsc 22:53, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Did you get it to work, just curious, i have been trying to do something similar on another template but i cant quite get it to work. --Boothy443 | comhrá 06:17, 1 October 2005 (UTC)
- It worked, but produced invalid CSS. Although it displayed fine, I decided it was morally wrong, so I reverted myself at Template:Infobox Country. See Template talk:Infobox Country for a proposal to do it right, that requires editing every page that uses the template. What template are you working on? dbenbenn | talk 06:26, 1 October 2005 (UTC)

Counties surrounding Kildare
[edit]Hi dude
Where are you getting the information that South Dublin and Fingal are couties surrounding Kildare?
Dublin is a county. South Dublin and Fingal are not. They are merely administrative regions within the county of Dublin. Another example of this is the county of Tipperary. It has 2 administrative regions: Tipperary North Riding and Tipperary South Riding.
Do you understand this explaination?

question
[edit]I see you opposed my RfA - any constructive criticism you could give me? I'm always looking to improve! Ryan Norton T | @ | C 06:59, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
Thanks - I appreciate the response! I wasn't so much as asking why you opposed my RfA (I'm sure you have good reasons, as you appear to take some time to evaluate each candidate :)) - I was just wondering what I could improve upon (such as "use more edit summaries", "not around long enough - need more experience" or something similar) :). You don't have to respond of course, but I'd consider it helpful if you could give me something to work on! Thanks again! Ryan Norton T | @ | C 08:01, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
RfA reasons for supporting/opposing?
[edit]I notice that you went through and voted on all the pending RfAs this morning, and you opposed the majority of them. However, none of your votes had any comment (not even the word "Support" or "Oppose"). The RfA guidelines say please include a short explanation of your reasoning, particularly when opposing a nomination. It would be very helpful if you'd give your reasoning in each case! - Brian Kendig 13:33, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
Hey there Mr. 443
[edit]I don't really have much to say, but isn't it funny that people keep coming to you to ask for your reasons for voting the way you do on RfA? I may not totally agree with all of your oppose votes, but you are entitled to your opinion and your vote. Do they (the BCrats) really disregard your votes? Well, I guess that's all. See you around. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 16:15, 7 October 2005 (UTC)
Counties in Dublin
[edit]Hi their,
You might want to read Wikipedia talk:Irish Wikipedians' notice board for recent talk on Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown, Fingal and South Dublin - I have to side with LocGov on this one as he is fundementally right even thought the titles are clumsy and long. I have updated Template:Ireland county infobox so that it can accomodate the longer titles.

Phoenix city flag
[edit]Hi, I've replace the Phoenix, Arizona city flag you uploaded (Image:PhoenixAZ.jpg) with a smaller PNG file (Image:Flag of Phoenix, AZ.png). I've listed the JPG for deletion. Hope this is OK. Mysid (talk) 10:08, 10 October 2005 (UTC)
Fox Chase Cancer Center
[edit]What we going to do about this page. That user keeps adding a POV rant, even though the two of us keep reverting it. Can we get an admin to freeze the page in these circumstances? --Sgkay 07:06, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for the tip about page protection, admin responded in just a few seconds(!) and I've kicked off a discussion about the POV stuff. Doubtful whether the POV vandal will respond, but we'll see... --Sgkay 07:33, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

My RFA
[edit]Hello, thanks for participating in my RfA. I am curious as to why you decided to vote Oppose. If you have criticisms of my edits, I'd like to learn about them so I can improve my participation here. Thanks! Johntex\talk 22:39, 21 October 2005 (UTC)
My RfA as well
[edit]Hi, I also have the same question as the Johntex above. If you have the time could you please tell me why, and I recommend giving reasons on the RfA page itself so that other users can take your critique into account when they. It would also help me better know what I have to do in order to improve. I think this is important especially since you're not a user I've dealt with too often before. Thanks. gren グレン 00:34, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, I figured it was something along those line, however what I was trying to get at is what you think I would have to change in order to become qualified. Whether I become admin or not having those qualities would no doubt be important and I would think if I do become admin you would want to help influence me to become a user you see fit to be an admin. So, please send some constructive cirticism my way. gren グレン 04:49, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
- Hmm, let me put it another way. What do you think I should do in order for my nomination to be one that you would support. I also feel that it is not polite to archive our conversation when we are in the middle of dialogue. gren グレン 05:13, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
