When you completely clear and move everything into an archive, it makes it difficult for others to follow the thread of comments. I know you think you have your reasons, but it would be nice if you tried to followed wikipedia conventions. Thanks. --Jerry (Talk) 03:48, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Jerry I sincerely hope the addition to my archive log will assist you and others in reading the dialogue concerning my recent period of being blocked from editing on Wikipedia. My reasons are to move on and to make room for more pleasant dialogue. --Bookofsecrets 04:40, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tennessee NPOV Dispute

[edit]
  • It has come time to end this. Southern is inappropriate and very strongly biased. Tennessee is the 16th State to join The United States of America. It in geographically located in the Southeastern portion of the United States of America. In today's society Southern leaves heavy racist overtones and is offensive. --Bookofsecrets 06:57, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nice revision to the TN article. I hope it sticks. You have my support. In reading your user page, I see we have very little in common. Somehow, that makes me glad. Rklawton 07:40, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you add a link to the talk page at the top of the Tennessee article? This breaks several Wikipedia conventions and is not appropriate. Kaldari 16:00, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed the TN talk link issue for you. The NPOV tag already has the link to the talk page, and it's formatted much more nicely. No big deal. Rklawton 16:26, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just to remind you: we do not have a talk_talk: namespace. Please do not attempt to use it. -- RHaworth 18:47, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Since you did not even bother to look at my edit before you reverted it, perhaps you would be interested to know that my version used "Southeastern", not "Southern". Please edit with civility. Kaldari 19:24, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • My version of the lead paragraph bring Tennessee into the 21st Century and away from those outdated modes of thought. The War of 1812 and the Volunteer State issue should be placed in the historic section of the article, not the lead paragraph. --Bookofsecrets 19:28, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that the main body of a U.S. state article should briefly state its current status (location, area, population, and origin). I see no problem listing its admission sequence and year. Detail on all of these topics should be found within the various headings below the main body. Listing other details like economy, culture, and other significant events in the main paragraph just loads it up with baggage. All those topics are far too complex to introduce with just a simple summary. At any rate, you and I seem to be in agreement about this. Keep up the good work. Rklawton 20:22, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

On a side note, I'm thinking state trivia like state flower, etc. might have a place in the State box so all states are uniform in these matters. Or perhaps we can make a second box for state trivia. Again, the idea is to make it easy for people to generate a list of all the state flowers, etc., without having to bully their way through fifty articles. Rklawton 20:22, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Negative Bias

[edit]

There is no place for negative bias at Wikipedia. I'm trying hard to comply and I believe everyone else should make the same effort. --Bookofsecrets 07:53, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Controversial Article

[edit]

WARNING: systematic vandalism of articles on South

[edit]

Bookofsecrets makes wild claims and is basing his original research on a road map. STOP or get expelled from Wikipedia. Rjensen 22:49, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I was not vandalizing anything. I am merely attempting to get those articles to comply with NPOV standards. If I get expelled from Wikipedia for attempting to comply with Standards then I will know those standards are meaningliless and have no validity. --Bookofsecrets 23:29, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV notices

[edit]

You are required to mention what your issue with the POV of an article is on the talk page when you place the notice. You have not done that on any of the recent articles you marked. I removed the notices until you can state your complaints. Simply saying "see Tennessee" is unsufficient, every article is individual. --Golbez 23:54, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

    • No one asked yours, either. Also, the census bureau calls them "Southern" states, which is as 'official' a definition as you'll get. --Golbez 00:14, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • As for the aforementioned statement I tote my own satchel. I am not accustomed to jumping every time the government says to do so. The government works for me, a citizen born and raised here. --Bookofsecrets 00:35, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No Pride and No Honor

[edit]
  • It has become abundantly clear that some people from the SOUTHEASTERN United States of America have no pride and no honor. They honestly believe they honor their ancestors with their petty stand on "Southern Pride". Being a long time historian I can safely say that "my" ancestors, who fought in the Confederate Army, would not appreciate the way they conduct themselves at all. I was born, raised, and still reside in Tennessee. At this point forward anyone calling me a "Southerner" will be insulting me. I am from Tennessee, thus a Tennessean. Tennessee is in the Southeastern United States of America. The Confederate States of America has not existed since April 1865. Let it die and go on. I live in the 21st Century, what century do you live in? --Bookofsecrets 00:04, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • What? I wasn't aware "southern" was synonymous with "secessionist". Can you please cite the dictionary from which you pulled this definition? --Golbez 00:06, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sure! Here: The South. Rklawton 00:08, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe that page should be NPOVified. --Golbez 00:12, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That page is presenting different definitions for The South. It is not the same situation. --Bookofsecrets 00:16, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Getting Bored of this Debate

[edit]

This conversation has gotten "boring" and I will make to further comments on this subject. Those who desire to see things foolishly will just have to do so. Since this is my talkpage please take this debate elsewhere. --Bookofsecrets 00:37, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A New Day Dawns

[edit]

"Southern"

[edit]
  • I care passionately what others around the globe think of my home state. I do not want to be associated with the Pro-Southern movement or the organizations that are in that movement up past their eye balls. I am a former SCV member and I left that organization due to their desire to be activists' and radical in tone. I do not have time in my life for such things. I have grown beyond such infantile ideals. Those who desire to look foolish in the eyes of others can do so. I, sir, live in the Southeastern United States of America in the great state of Tennessee. --Bookofsecrets 12:48, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • I certainly applaud your motives. I also live in Tennessee and would like for my state to not be percieved as hicksville. However, I do not believe it is Wikipedia's place to decide how Tennessee is characterized. Our job as encyclopedia editors is to distill (without bias) whatever the rest of the world has to say about Tennessee into one coherant summary. If the rest of the world calls Tennessee "Southern", then that is what we should write. If most of the world calls Tennessee "hicksville", that is what we should write as well. I'm afraid your perception of the word "Southern" may be somewhat distorted. In most people's minds the word Southern is simply a geographic term, although it certainly has cultural connotations from the South's history and its present, as do all geographic terms to an extent. I don't think anyone is trying to push a "Southern" agenda here. You must understand that a large portion of each state article is actaully written by a bot that culls information from the census databases. It is likely that a bot is actually the agent responsible for the convention of labeling these states "Southern" (since that is the official census region), although honestly I have no idea when or where the convention arose. I certainly don't think it was from anyone trying to be offensive, racist, or push a particular POV, however. Regardless, I'm withdrawing myself from the "Southern"/"Southeastern" debate, as I really don't think it's worth all the hubub. My only advice to you is to assume good faith and try harder to build consensus rather than spark debate. You may find that you attract more flies with honey than with vinegar, as they say. Kaldari 16:35, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I certainly applaud your motives. I also live in Tennessee and would like for my state to not be percieved as hicksville. Then you understand what I'm attempting to accomplish. I think wikipedia can be used to educate and sway the train of thought toward "hicksville" USA. Some friends of ours visited us from about 35 miles to our east. They honestly felt threatened and was afraid of hearing "dualing banjos" like in "Deliverance". I laughed, but I was also very upset that others see our region in that manner. It is one of my goal to see those perceptions changed in a positive way. I feel insulted when those kind of comments come in my direction. The Southeastern United States is very culturally diversified. Maybe all folks that say "Southern" don't mean it in a bad way. But those who use it for racist purposes are causing major issues for the rest of us. Personally, I don't appreciate it at all. I appreciate your kind words and your understanding. I will, however, consider those who push "Southern" in a certain manner as foolish and infantile. --Bookofsecrets 17:01, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Zip the lip"?

[edit]

You wrote: Nobody ask for your petty opinion. I do not have to agree with the Census Bureau, you or anyone else for that matter. So I'd suggest that you zip the lip.

You are absolutely right. You diod not ask for my opinion. Unfortunately, I do not need your permission to post on an article's talk page, buddy. I do not answer to you simply because you say so.

Also, you are right in the fact that you do not have to agree with the Census Bureau, me, or anyone else. But guess what? If you can't agree with anyone, then get your high-tailed ass off Wikipedia, because we do not need you here.

Thank you for your time, and please do not spoil my Talk page with your inintelligent filth again. P.H. - Kyoukan, UASC 23:14, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kids!!!!!!!!!!!

[edit]
  • There is something that burns my backside worse than a flame three feet high. What? Some kid age twenty two or younger trying to tell, me, what I shall and shall not do. These kids need to learn respect and they will not get my respect unless they EARN IT! --Bookofsecrets 23:53, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please be civil and do not make personal attacks against other users. [1] [2] [3] [4] You have had a long history of having an inexplicably hostile and discriminatory attitude toward other users. However, time and time again, the community has continued to assume good faith on your part and hoped that you would improve your behavior. I suppose we were wrong. Remember back to your unblocking just last week; you agreed to "follow wikipedia policies to the best of [your] ability." [5] [6] [7] Your repeated, brazen outbursts of utterly degrading and completely unfounded insults are completely unacceptable. Note that continued personal attacks may lead to blocks for disruption. Thank you. — Rebelguys2 talk 00:17, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Rebelguys2, I know you are correct. I'll apologize to User:P.H. - Kyoukan, UASC, but I expect an apology in return. I did not edit the Tennessee page or any other state page today 1 May 2006, yet he accused me of it anyway. So please let him know he hasn't been a prize today either. Thanks for bringing it to my attention and note that I only got hostile when I was wrongly accused and felt attacked. --Bookofsecrets 00:24, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another reply to "zip it"

  • You wrote: Here is some more filth. You attacked me by claiming I did something I did not do. That is not my IP address that reverted the Tennessee article and you are not my friend.
I never said it was. the "you" I wrote about in the history was to the IP below me.
