Photo

[edit]

Thanks for adding the photo, but the photo Image:SalilChowdhury1002.jpg lacks any license information, and hence is subject to deletion. Is the photo in your family album? If the photo is from your collection, please add {{GFDL-self}} to the photo's description page. Feel free to give me a message if you need any help. Thanks. --Ragib 23:04, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Owning the physical photo doesn't mean that you own the copyright on it. Did you take the photo? The way I understand it, if you didn't take the photo, we can only use it under certain conditions: (1) whoever did take the photo agrees to license it under a free license (see GFDL for the minimum license, but Public domain or a Creative commons license that doesn't restrict its use are okay); (note: this is a stronger agreement than allowing Wikipedia to use it). (2) the photo was taken a very long time ago (100 years), or (3) the taker of the photo is dead and their heir has agreed to a free license as in #1, or finally (4) there is some Fair use rationale that allows us to use the image even though it isn't a free one. Hi bobbi, welcome to Wikipedia, nice of you to join, how are you? If you have any questions about all the rules around here don't hesitate to ask, some of the rules about fair use, the GFDL and the CC licenses are very hard to understand even for us seasoned lawyers.
