Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. --Moscow Connection (talk) 19:44, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because the username, BobbyVinton, matches the name of a well-known, living person.

If you are the person represented by this username, please note that the practice of blocking such usernames is to protect you from being impersonated, not to discourage you from editing Wikipedia. You may choose to edit under a new username (see information below), but keep in mind that you are welcome to continue to edit under this username. If you choose to do so, we ask the following:

  1. Please be willing and able to prove your identity to Wikipedia.
  2. Please send an email to info-en@wikimedia.org. Be aware that the volunteer response team that handles email is indeed operated entirely by volunteers, and the reply may not be immediate.

If you are not the person represented by this username, you are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.

You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:

  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "Email this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you think that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} on your user talk page, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 20:52, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Would User:Diannaa be so kind to unblock my account? I see that she was very quick to block me without talking to me first, but it looks like it takes ages to her to unblock me.. BobbyVinton (talk) 21:37, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Could User:Bbb23 explain why I am blocked?? I am am not a sock~puppet of "Bishal Khan" [1]. I'm often using a VPN (since some website are blocked where I live) and I have probably forgotten to turn it off. That's why I might have the same IP as other users from time to time. My actual IP is 93.74.111.133, located in Ukraine. The account you suspect me to be a sock of is an Indian user, contributing about Indian subjects. I'm not ! I know no interest at all in this matter. BobbyVinton (talk) 23:01, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User:Baseball Bugs, I'm not a sock. The reality is that I sometimes use a VPN due to the internet policy of the country where I live, so I might have the same IP as other users. Please review my unblock request. BobbyVinton (talk) 23:10, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I believe that Bbb23's block was a checkuser block. If that's the case, it cannot be lifted by an ordinary admin, but only by Bbb23 or another checkuser. Beyond My Ken (talk) 23:18, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You mean Baseball Bugs can't unblock him? BTW, BobbyVinton, Baseball Bugs didn't actually conclude you were a sock - he was just noting that you had been blocked as a sock.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:22, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) BTW, BobbyVinton, you were unblocked by Diannaa so that you could change your username, but I see no indication that you availed yourself of any of the options listed at WP:CHU. Instead, you immediately went to Anatoly Shariy -- your editing of which had provoked an AN/I report -- and reinserted the disputed material with an (invalid, in my view) new source. Clearly, that was the more important thing to you, despite the fact that the unblock was made on the basis of your saying you would change your username. That shows considerable bad faith on your part, whether you're a sock or not, and is an indication that you're most probably an SPA. Beyond My Ken (talk) 23:25, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
And I should point out that Bbb23 is one of our very best checkusers. Beyond My Ken (talk) 23:26, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I am not questioning Bbb23's skills at all, but as stated before, I use sometimes a VPN, as many website are blocked where I live. He's mistaking me for an Indian user, I have no specific knowledge whatsoever about that country.
Well, you can argue about the quality of an Ukrainian news agency, but this is still a national news agency, and it can be considered as a valid source, however oriented it might be. If we can't use Ukrainian medias about an Ukrainian personality, I'm wondering how far we can go like that, since he's not really famous outside of that region. Mind you, the article we are talking about is full of very oriented Russian State-owned sources : Interfax, Rossyia24 (the Youtube link), and Sputnik news (seriously?? Sputnik news is a conspiracy theory website, promoting 9/11 "truthers", even the US congress considers it as a Foreign agent).. BobbyVinton (talk) 23:38, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I thought I submitted a name change request, but apparently, something went wrong. Sigh. Not my lucky day...
So, User:Beyond My Ken and User:Bbb23, what is the next step? What is expected from me? BobbyVinton (talk) 23:42, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Your Global Contributions shows no sign of any edit relating to a name-change request. Beyond My Ken (talk) 23:47, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I submitted a form, entered my email address, then I thought it was okay. I am very new to this procedure... BobbyVinton (talk) 23:49, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This is not very kind. Why would an Eastern European be a sock of an Indian user, who contributed only about India-related topics? BobbyVinton (talk) 23:54, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That was a general comment on socks and socking, which is why it was in small text, as being a tangent from the primary discussion. As for the putative ethnic identities of socks: (1) Proxies and (2) "On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog" and {3} The Great Game. Beyond My Ken (talk) 00:02, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's fine, thanks a lot for your comments. It's been a long time I haven't been bullied online like that... BobbyVinton (talk) 00:11, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
So, User:Beyond My Ken, it turns out my name change request was indeed submitted : [2]. It just somehow didn't appear in my edit history.
Now, I would like that story to be over and be able to contribute to the article : this video-blogger openly supports pro-Russian separatists in Eastern Ukraine[3] and is a prominent member of an anti-gay group[4], this laudatory article does not reflect at all that he is highly controversial. My intention is *not* to smear at any moment, I am just willing to add critical information, using valid sources only, and rightfully attributing the point of view if needed. I completely messed up with the edit war, but I'm using Wiki since 2006, created dozens of articles, and I know how sources work. BobbyV1987 (talk) 12:47, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Could you please show some articles you've created? --Moscow Connection (talk) 16:36, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User:Dlohcierekim, as I stated above, I use a VPN due to the Internet policy of the country I live in. So that is why I might have the same IP as other users from time to time. My actual IP is 93.74.111.133 and I contribute only about Eastern European subjects. You mistake me for an Indian user, who contributed only about Indian topics[5], and I know nothing special about this country, really. Why would I do that? BobbyVinton (talk) 23:57, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

did not do the blocking. You are familiar with the related discussion at WP:AN/I, I believe. -- Dlohcierekim (talk) 23:59, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I know, but I see that you rejected my request. BobbyVinton (talk) 00:13, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Bbb23: to elaborate further. -- Dlohcierekim (talk) 00:01, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • (edit conflict) @BobbyVinton, I've been listening to what you've been saying. I can't promise anything, but this may sort out in your favor. However, you'll have to be patient. It may take a day or two. The holidays make it harder as well. Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 00:02, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. May I ask you why it will take so long? I'm submitting an unblocking request again below, with the same points, to be sure I'm in the books and not being forgotten. BobbyVinton (talk) 00:11, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, User:Bbb23, just as a remark, I'm surprised by this policy of blocking users on the assumption that they have they are sock-puppets due to the fact that they share the same IP. I'm wondering how many users from China, Russia, Turkey or Saudi Arabia (these countries use VPN/anonymizers massively) have been banned that way. Is there a banning policy of VPN users? I think it would be more reasonable to talk to people before blocking like that.. BobbyVinton (talk) 00:49, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
CheckUser is not based solely upon IP. - The Bushranger One ping only 01:25, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Then how was I accused of being a sock-puppet of জঙ্গলবাসী? The contributions of that account are totally unrelated to mine. Why didn't you guys write to me first? It took you 5 secs to block me, now it takes 2 days to unblock. BobbyVinton (talk) 01:39, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I use a VPN, so it's normal if I have sometimes the same IP as other users. My actual IP is 93.74.111.133 and there is no other account linked to this IP. Moreover, you accuse me of being a sock of জঙ্গলবাসী, which is an Indian account, contributing to topics that are very different to mine

Accept reason:

After consultation with two other CheckUsers, I am unblocking you. At the same time, I'm warning you that if you continue your disruptive editing, you risk being blocked for reasons other than sock puppetry.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:54, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, that is clear. I'll discuss first before making the next edits. BobbyV1987 (talk) 15:45, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
