Helpbox to show wikitext format

[edit]

Another new way to learn wp:wikitext is to view the related wp:helpbox during edit-preview of any page, as a short reference card about wikilinks, bold/italic, image links, headers, etc.
Insert "wikitext" to show the helpbox:

The term "wikitext" refers to Wikipedia's wp:wiki markup language. Formats:

  • hyperlink or link here or expertly    → hyperlink or link here or expertly
  • external link      → external link   (to an outside webpage)
  •       →   (shows image, see below)
  • ==Header== → Header        ===Subheader=== → Subheader
  • italic   bold   bold-italicitalic   bold   bold-italic
  • * bullet → • bullet       (or ":*" or "::*" to indent)
    Caption
  • : indent →     indent   (or "::" or "::::::" to indent more)
  • # numbered →   1.  numbered   ("#:" indents under numbered lines)
  • #* bullet under number →   °  bullet under number
  •  → (internal wp:category link).
  • aa → (run "Template:Templt" with parameters "aa" & "bb")
  •  → calculate expression: (5×10 + 32+8)/2 = 33.5
  • ~~~~ → signature     ~~~~~ → date/time (UTC)

A related page is Help:Table.

However, some other parts of wikitext are very complex, such as displaying a math formula, which can use any of hundreds of symbols (see: Help:Math for formula markup). Welcome. -Wikid77 (talk) 04:44, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, thank you for the info. Bob the Billder 22:19, 9 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You have found your way in editing your userpage. You can edit any article you want. Just be bold. If someone doesn't degree s/he will revert you. Never mind, discuss your proposed change on the article talk page. That's all you need to know. You wanted to know about all the rules.
