Trolling the trolls
A lesson that I have learned the hard way is that it's often better just to leave well enough alone rather then trying to talk sense into known idiots[1]. In this case I think it would have been best for you to simply stay on the moral high ground and ignore this individual. Long ago I would have done the exact same thing you did, but I have since taken a much more dispassionate approach to vandalism (and Wikipedia in general, for that matter). Instead of lowering yourself to his level, simply address the issue at hand; revert, revert, revert, report... problem solved until his next block expires. From experience, you WILL eventually reach the point that this kind of thing just stops affecting you. I don't even notice vandals getting getting upset with me anymore. When I start up Huggle, I just put on my confessor face and go to work. It's not personal to me, I don't give a damn if it's personal to them. Trusilver 03:34, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

- Some wikis have persistent anons vandalizing that they start to require log-in to edit. Like the Super Mario Wiki. Of course, Wikipedia is big, and we get lots of vandals every day. But there are some anons who are doing productive things, so it wouldn't be intelligent to revoke anons to edit. Mostly annoying anons...but there are good anons. :) --Bryce Contributions/Bmusician | talk 01:24, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

typo fixing
Hello Bryce: I have noticed that you recently carried out "typo fixed Tv -> TV" in the Wikipedia "List of abbreviations in photography". Tv is not a typo. It is the correct abbreviation for Shutter priority aka Time value. Aperture value is similarly abbreviated to Av and ISO value to Sv. Please see the Wikipedia page on "Shutter speed" and books by authorities such as Langford: "Advanced Photography" (p. 311) Busch: "Digital SLR Cameras ..." (p. 98). Will you undo this edit please, or do you want me to do it? Best wishes, martinev (talk) 21:09, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Reverted the edit of Mission BC
Hi B
saw you removed the addition of Richard Cummins as a person of note in Mission BC Canada. Apparently this current newspaper interview/article makes quite good evidence of my additions as accurate: http://www.bclocalnews.com/fraser_valley/missioncityrecord/entertainment/128035253.html
This also evidences his movie work: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1449616/
I reverted your edit and see no reason why Mission BC can't have one more person of 'reknown'.
Have a great day
- Then why did you use such diabolical style while editing and not put the references in in the first place? --Bryce Contributions/Bmusician | talk 13:52, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

St Albans School (Hertfordshire)
The edits to the St Albans School (Hertfordshire) now includes almost 40 references, most of them from scholarly books. However, you chose to revert the page back to a very early form (with no references) as the new one had no "reliable citations" (in spite of it having 40!) Could you please undo your changes, as from my point of view they are nothing but vandalising new contributions to wikipedia.131.111.1.66 (talk) 11:44, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
- No. And if you continue to label further reversions to your edits as "vandalism" there will be consequences. And I have nothing more to say about this, so drop it. --Bryce (talk | contribs) 12:26, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
- Wikipedia's definition of vandalism includes (quoting from the Wikipedia:Vandalism page)
"Blanking, illegitimate Removing all or significant parts of a page's content without any reason, or replacing entire pages with nonsense. Sometimes referenced information or important verifiable references are deleted with no valid reason(s) given in the summary." You have chosen not to "no valid reason" why a well-referenced page, with over 40 references to scholarly or published sources, should be reverted back to an earlier version which has 10+ mistakes in (for instance, the school is not a boarding school, as your edit says it is). Indeed, your behaviour is described well on the page; "referenced information or important verifiable references are deleted with no valid reason(s) given in the summary". Looking at wikipedia's own rules, you are therefore vandalising this page, unless you can say, in detail, why the page has been edited incorrectly. I therefore await your full reasoning behind your edits.131.111.1.66 (talk) 15:04, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
- I am not the same user as 131.111.1.66- so don't put threats aimed at him on my talk page, thank you very much. They may be a nuisance sometimes but I agree with what they say here- their edit to the page is entirely legitimate and you really shouldn't have reverted it- and in doing so you're getting very close to breaking the three-revert rule, and if you break it I will warn another administrator of your wilful violations of wikipedia's rules. I have changed the page back; if you would like to discuss to any further it should be on the talk page of the article. Thanks, Brownandwhite (talk) 15:16, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
- You aren't? I cannot believe that. You both mistake my reverts of "vandalism" which it is not. The reasons why your edits were reverted were explained many times to you. And I have nothing more to say on the matter, so drop it and please kindly stay off my talk page. --Bryce (talk | contribs) 03:08, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
RfA tranclusion
Hi. This is not being helpful at all. Perhaps what you should have done is to explain to the user why this cannot possibly succeed with only 15 (fifteen) edits, and point them to WP:Advice for RfA candidates. - perhaps you should read it yourself. Preventing this transclusion from going ahead will avoid any embarrassment and disappointment to this new user. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 03:21, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

Adminship/promotion
It's a perception thing. Adminship is meant to be no big deal, admins shoudln't have any authority over other users and are not more important than other editors. They do have a few extra tools, which allow them to do a few extra tasks, and there is a requirement that the editors have community trust before they are given the tools. Hence RfA. St Clement (hymn tune)
Hi. I noticed that you PRODded the above article only 24 minutes after it was created. It strikes me that a quick Google search (other search engines are available™) would have been enough to demonstrate that, although the article itself had not within those two dozen minutes established notability beyond one published book, there have been numerous newspaper articles about the tune and the hymn it accompanies.
Having said that, I only noticed the article because of the PROD so maybe it was worthwhile. Sadly, I've now forgotten which article I was planning to PROD when I saw it! Longwayround (talk) 12:08, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi, Just to let you know, I've changed (after some confusion on my part) your request for speedy deletion of Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya, Engineering college, VV Nagar, Anand from the importance criteria to the duplicate article criteria because it is a duplicate of Birla Vishwakarma Mahavidyalaya. William Presser, newly submitted entry
Dear Bryce,
I am in the midst of submitting a new article about William Presser (surprised there isn't one yet), and am inexperienced at contributing articles.
I have submitted the article, which draws from an online bio at www.tritone-tenuto.com/presser.htm -- the bio was written by his daughter, and I am the proprietor of that website, and I've included the appropriate permission notice on that website.
However, I apparently have corrupted the wikipedia submission while trying to add a notice about this.
I'm hoping you can guide me through the process of restoring the original submission, and documenting permission to derive this article from the tritone-tenuto source.
Thank you!

// Add [[WP:Reflinks]] launcher in the toolbox on left addOnloadHook(function () { addPortletLink( "p-tb", // toolbox portlet "http://toolserver.org/~dispenser/cgi-bin/webreflinks.py/" + wgPageName + "?client=script&citeweb=on&overwrite=&limit=30&lang=" + wgContentLanguage, "Reflinks" // link label )});
onto Special:MyPage/skin.js, then paste the bare URL between your <ref></ref> tabs, and you'll find a clickable link called Reflinks in your toolbox section of the page (probably in the left hand column). Then click that tool. It does all the rest of the work (provided that you remember to save the page! It doesn't work for everything (particularly often not for PDF documents), but for pretty much anything ending in "htm" or "html" (and with a title) it will do really, really well. You may consider taking on Category:Articles needing link rot cleanup. So long! --Sp33dyphil ©hatontributions 03:05, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, I've installed it! --Bryce (talk | contribs) 03:13, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
Chess
Hey thar, hope you had a very merry one! What's your chess rating? Do you reckon you'd fancy a game on here? We could just type in PGN notation or somesuch. I've been doing a lot of it recently. Hope your new year's a happy one! ;) Aranea Mortem (talk to me) 03:09, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- Chess is something I do for fun, so I don't basically have a rating ;) You can play my chess game at User:Bmusician/chess. --Bryce (talk | contribs) 03:13, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- Hmmm, sounds like you'd enjoy Chess.com. Free live games. It's good fun. Here's me: [2]. Aranea Mortem (talk to me) 03:16, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- Btw you've been doing some great vandal arse-kicking recently. ;) Aranea Mortem (talk to me) 03:18, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Thank you, -- DASHBot (talk) 05:02, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- Hi DASHBot. Just so you know, that was intentional and was a test to see how long it took you to resopnd. If you'd like to, shall we play again? --Bryce (talk | contribs) 08:16, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
Speedy deletion declined: Sailing Soul(s)
Hello Bmusician. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Sailing Soul(s), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: A7 does not apply to albums. Thank you. Guerillero | My Talk 03:23, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
- I know that and removed it myself before receiving your message. When I tagged it, there was no content on the page that said it was an album. --Bryce (talk | contribs) 03:24, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
Help with vandal
Hi. A couple of users have vandalized by User and talk pages, blanking and moving someone else's there. Can you help? I think the culprits are Wayne2011 and Special:Contributions/203.82.95.93, who blanked my page. Dan56 (talk) 05:44, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
- Hi, I've reported him to AIV, obviously he's only here for vandalism. I'll try to help you move the pages back. --Bryce (talk | contribs) 05:46, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
Comment
Good morning. I understand that this user may be annoying you, but for an editor who requests others to "stay within the bounds of civility" on his talk page, I must say that this edit summary and this message probably don't fall within those bounds. This isn't the only article the IP has been causing issues with, but I would ask you please to refrain from telling any editor, regardless of their status, to "shut up", or intimating that a block or ban would be "the grand prize", as sarcasm serves only to inflame delicate situations. If you have any questions, you can feel free to ask me at my talk page, or you can respond here and leave {{talkback}} on my page. Thanks, and have a good New Year's Eve. — KV5 • Talk • 13:18, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
- I've seen many editors in the past behaving similarly; I will no longer be among them. Thank you for your reminder. --Bryce (talk | contribs) 14:02, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
Hello. Aren't 6 users supposed to be enough for getting a consensus of a discussion? There was a strong appeal for WP:NFF as well. If not, could you please tell me what to do when a debate is relisted? Thanks and regards. X.One SOS 14:48, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
- How many users who voted is not relevant. In my opinion, the consensus was not clear enough, so I relisted it to generate a more thorough discussion so a clearer consensus could be reached by more editors. Please read WP:RELIST for instructions. Thanks, Bryce (talk | contribs) 14:51, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

Not without some more warnings! (I've also unprotected your talk page, user talk pages should never be semiprotected except in extreme cases, and even then only for short periods) Prodego talk 08:23, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
- See WP:UPROT. If you disagree with this policy propose it be changed. If you disagree with my actions, take it to ANI. Prodego talk 08:27, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
- I won't be taking it to ANI, but "Users whose talk page is semi-protected for lengthy or indefinite periods of time should have an unprotected user talk subpage linked conspicuously from their main talk page to allow good faith comments from non-autoconfirmed users." which I do. If you unprotect my talk page, you should be unprotecting other indefinitely protected user talks as well. --Bryce (talk | contribs) 08:30, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
I do when I see them. Your talk page has been protected all of zero times before being indef protected. That hardly demonstrates a persistent problem. Compare to NawlinWiki's talk page, or even my own talk page. User talk pages should simply not be protected, there is a good change, especially for those involved in anti-vandalism work, that an IP or non-autoconfirmed editor will need to contact you. Prodego talk 08:34, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
- All of zero times??? --Bryce (talk | contribs) 08:39, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
- Ah yes, sorry. One time. Prodego talk 08:40, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
Underhill Society of America
Hello, I want to thank you for getting involved with the Underhill Society of America and William Underhill pages. Both have been substantially improved from their original versions with new sources added, and text revisions made to generate notability. Being somewhat new to Wikipedia, I just wanted to ask why these articles were renominated for AFD, when all of the recommendations said "Keep"? Thank you for your clarification, and any further help and assistance you are able to provide in advance. IDKremer (talk) 19:26, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
Consensus is for Keep on the William Underhill page. Are you able to do a speedy keep? IDKremer (talk) 22:30, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia, they're really helpful. I've closed "William Underhill" as speedy keep, consensus is clearly to keep. I don't know about "Underhill Society of America" however. --Bryce (talk | contribs) 13:58, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for your help on WWU. With respect to the AFD for the Underhill Society of America, the AFD talk page has consensus for Keep. With this as with others, I anticipate it is only a matter of time until the AFD discussion is closed. Substantial improvements and many sources have been added since the first AFD request was made. I would, of course, be open to any further suggestions that you and others have of how to further improve this page. Thanks again and look forward to continuing to work with you on this important topic. IDKremer (talk) 14:27, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

OPIS Network submission
Hello Bryce,
You have concerns that I am attempting to advertise, but that is not my intention. Since I work with government agencies I am sharing some of the challenges that they are experiencing. If you want me to delete some of that I can, but one of the reviewers asked for more substance and information on why this entry is a valuable one.

You're right, I should have deleted it as unreferenced promotional content, which is a CSD criterion. Do you want me to recreate and delete with the correct tag, or leave as is? Jimfbleak - talk to me? 13:21, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
- I think either way's fine. As long as you've known and acknowledged the little mistake, it would be good enough :-) --Bryce (talk | contribs) 13:30, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for patrolling my patrols! :) I agree with removing those tags but I have re tagged them, not for speedy deletion but for normal deletion on the grounds that they are unsourced biographies. I also believe these people are unnotable but that may be changed once references appear. Thank you and let me know if anything else comes up.Zzaffuto118 (talk) 02:24, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Zz, we're glad to have you at new page patrol :) New page patrol is something that should never be rushed through. In order to avoid WP:BITE which scares off new users away from Wikipedia, please wait ten minutes before tagging A1 (no context) or A3 (no content). Of course, G10 (attack pages), G3 (vandalism/hoaxes), and G12 (copyright violations) should be tagged immediately. You've been tagging A7 on new pages which it doesn't apply to - any article that makes a credible claim of its importance, even if unsourced, does not fall under A7 (but could fall under other criteria). Thanks for being interested in patrolling, we hope you will continue. Don't forget to read Wikipedia:New pages patrol and WP:CSD. Best of luck, Bryce (talk | contribs) 12:31, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
