City, State/Provence Together, Please!

Would you please stop making sepetare links for a city and styate/provence in the 2009 Winter Classic item, please? When listing a location, I think it's much better if the city and state/provence are linked as one, not as seperate entities. It saves bandwith for future use. Well, in this case, the Chicago article is just the city name, so it avoids a redirect. I'll change it back when I get another chance to edit the Winter Classic article, so as not to waste an edit. In fact, it seems like it is better to have the city and state linked separately because there is a template just for that, {{city state}} (which I don't use). Personally, I link them together when it is in the prose of the article, except in cases like this, and separately when it is in an infobox or table, since those have no particular flow. -- bmitchelfTF 14:49, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You were actually in the right on this, city and state are supposed to be linked separately in the first instance of an article. The infobox need not have them linked separately but the lead of the article does. -Djsasso (talk) 03:15, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that, but I know what I'm doing. The "wins" section was a bone of contention before and was removed because it can't be reasonably cited. WHAT Wikis Take Manhattan is a scavenger hunt and free content photography contest aimed at illustrating Wikipedia and StreetsWiki articles covering sites and street features in Manhattan and across the five boroughs of New York City. The event is based on last year's Wikipedia Takes Manhattan, and has evolved to include StreetsWiki this year as well.

LAST YEAR'S EVENT

WINNINGS? Prizes include a dinner for three with Wikipedia creator Jimmy Wales at Pure Food & Wine, gift certificates to Bicycle Habitiat and the LimeWire Store, and more!

WHEN The hunt will take place Saturday, September 27th from 1:00pm to 6:30pm, followed by prizes and celebration.

WHO All Wikipedians and non-Wikipedians are invited to participate in team of up to three (no special knowledge is required at all, just a digital camera and a love of the city). Bring a friend (or two)!

REGISTER The proper place to register your team is here. It's also perfectly possible to register on the day of when you get there, but it will be slightly easier for us if you register beforehand.

WHERE Participants can begin the hunt from either of two locations: one at Columbia University (at the sundial on college walk) and one at The Open Planning Project's West Village office. Everyone will end at The Open Planning Project:

Blame Lou for the low numbers. He believes that sweater numbers should be between 1 and 31 (actually 32). That players with high numbers are seeking individual status instead of team status. I believe Alexander Mogilny's 89 was the only exception to his rule. I guess it's a good thing he wasn't working in Montreal!! Raul17 (talk) 23:55, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Custom signature fix needed

Hi there! You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. A change to Wikipedia's software has made your current custom signature incompatible with the software.

The problem: Your signature contains a syntax error, specifically formatting tags that are in the wrong order.

The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, or you can fix your signature.

Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:
  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Remove anything in the Signature: text box.
  4. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (The red "Restore all default settings" button will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)
Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:
  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Change the signature as show below, or make other edits to make the signature appear how you want it to appear.
  3. Click Save to update to your newly fixed signature.
