Hannah Jadagu moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Hannah Jadagu, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Berber languages

[edit]

Hi,

Thanks for your contributions on Berber languages.

These articles aren't in great shape unfortunately and they may need to be rewritten. It would be amazing to bring some of them to WP:GA or even WP:FA. If that's something you want to do, I would be happy to help, although I don't know much about these languages.

Best, a455bcd9 (Antoine) (talk) 17:02, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Antoine,
I'm legitimately thrilled to hear this!! It's pretty surprising to me how little attention these pages seem to get. I have no background in Berber languages / Berber studies in general either, and haven't found it to be much of an issue so far, other than the amount of reading I have to get through to rewrite a section. It's still been very slow going for multiple reasons, and it doesn't seem like anyone else is actively adding to them (information, sources, etc.), so having another person on the case would be amazing.
I'm waiting until we resolve the current population dispute to continue editing the main Berber languages page (I want to rewrite the Subclassification section next, then put the sections in a more standard order, then go through and do a general passover/edit). There were two other pages I left some discussion on, that I'd love to hear your input for:
- The Tifinagh/Libyco-Berber script pages are oddly named and divided; I mention this in the Libyco-Berber talk page. I'd love to get your input on that, and overall I think those two pages definitely need to be reorganized and overhauled.
- If you have a linguistics background, I have some confusion regarding Zenaga phonology (mentioned in the talk page).
Also, all the individual language pages definitely could be updated; most of these pages have uncontested Ethnologue citations from over 2 decades ago for the population, so I was planning on updating them to the Ethnologue 2022 numbers. Since I think you mentioned having access to the latest Ethnologue edition, updating those would already be a huge improvement.
Let me know if there's anything I can do to help you get started; I do have a bunch of reading material that's been very helpful (and interesting!), if that's something you'd like me to share. And of course let me know if you have suggestions for what could be improved. (I also have a growing list of my own, which I'm also happy to share if it's ever of interest.)
Thanks for reaching out about this! :-) Blueshiftofdeath (talk) 17:47, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,
It's not only Berber languages: articles about languages in general are of poor quality. You can look at "major" languages and see that they're often not in better shape.
I think you would benefit from an access to Ethnologue, I recommend joining their Contributor program to enjoy a free access.
I improved Levantine Arabic from a terrible article in June 2021 to Featured article. It was a long process. I'm happy to help on the process, to provide peer review on any article you want and participate in discussions (feel free to ping me), but I won't contribute to the core content. a455bcd9 (Antoine) (talk) 18:11, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good! Should I ping you on your talk page, or directly on the article talk page? And should I additionally ping your about the Libyco-Berber and Zenaga Phonology discussions, or should I consider you already pinged for those? Blueshiftofdeath (talk) 18:36, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Whatever you prefer. I'm not that interested in phonology but feel free to ping me and if I don't answer, consider that I'm not interested in the discussion ;) a455bcd9 (Antoine) (talk) 18:43, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome! :-) Thanks again!! And thank you also for letting me know about the Ethnologue Contributor program, I will definitely get on that. Blueshiftofdeath (talk) 18:45, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Alex the Astronaut

[edit]

Hi Blueshiftofdeath

As someone close to Alex, I'm just jumping in to correct a few of your additions to the Alex the Astronaut Wikipedia page. Alex uses she/they pronouns - her bio on her website may use "they" however it isn't evidence in itself that Alex uses exclusively they/them pronouns. Please see her Instagram bio if you want confirmation.

Additionally, Alex does not identify as non-binary. She is on a journey and currently has not reached a definitive spot on that journey to identify or not identify as one label or the other. That's exactly what the article you linked reiterates as well.

Please correct these when possible, and thanks for your contributions regardless! 60.242.18.158 (talk) 06:48, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up! I can see upon rereading how I misinterpreted the article. I also see you made the changes in question yourself, which is great! As you probably have already figured out, "reliable" sources are basically the most important thing on Wikipedia; since I couldn't see any information on pronouns on Alex's general Instagram page, I changed the source for Alex's pronouns to be a specific post.
Just so you know, nobody owns any given Wikipedia page. Alex's page doesn't seem to be getting much traffic, so it may not change very often, but eventually people will probably change the page to reflect their understanding of whatever press is out there about Alex. Since the content of Wikipedia pages is based basically entirely on the content of reliable sources, rather than primary sources (including the person herself in a biographical page), if Alex doesn't want her page to say she's nonbinary, the best way to ensure that would be to specify that in an interview somewhere, as I believe most people (including myself) would typically automatically categorize anyone that explicitly says they use gender neutral pronouns as nonbinary. New article Douiret language

[edit]

Hi Blueshiftofdeath! Yesterday, Fdom5997 created the article Douiret language based on a dissertation that covers a few Tunisian Berber dialects. I have found some additional mentions of this inland variety, but it's hard to bring these varieties into the big picture of the easternmost Zenati varieties, especially since the whole treatment of Tunisian Berber in Ethnologue is a big mess (see User_talk:Austronesier#New_language_page). Maybe you can help out here with some additional literature that I'm not aware of. Austronesier (talk) 15:30, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I took a look and unfortunately couldn't find anything either... I will keep an eye out though as I go through sources for related pages! Blueshiftofdeath (talk) 03:24, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
