GA review
How long should I give an actively editing GA reviewer to return to a review? SL93 (talk) 20:09, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- My GA review passed, but I'm just making it clear that this is for future reference. I don't want to unintentionally frustrate any reviewers. SL93 (talk) 20:26, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- SL93, while the GAN instructions indicate that a review should be done within seven days, in practical matters it frequently takes longer than that. I think a friendly ping/query is fine after a couple of weeks without activity—sometimes people do forget, or get distracted, or they have a GA or FA nomination of their own that takes their time, or real life intervenes. There are some reviewers who are perennially late getting back to reviews, and it can be very frustrating—nominations can sit around for a very long time before a reviewer finally shows up, which makes nominators very reluctant to lose the reviewer they have already, even if they're unresponsive. BlueMoonset (talk) 21:54, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the detailed response. SL93 (talk) 22:59, 17 January 2023 (UTC)

A mop of your own?
Hi. If I may be so bold, I think you would make an excellent candidate for RfA. You've been around for a long time, seem to have more than a clue, are already involved in administrative type stuff at DYK, and have a clear demonstrated need for a mop, i.e. being able to manage the DYK queues (and mode shifts) by yourself instead of having to run down an admin. Would you mind if I nominated you? -- RoySmith (talk) 04:12, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
- RoySmith, thank you for the thought. While I appreciate it, I'm not interested in becoming an admin. This does come up occasionally; I believe the last time was nearly three years ago. I haven't changed my mind, and I've noticed a gradually diminishing level of activity over the past years. I apologize for taking so long to respond; I've been busy IRL and haven't been posting much beyond my usual wikignoming around DYK. Thank you. BlueMoonset (talk) 19:41, 3 February 2023 (UTC)
GA cord
Hi BlueMoonset, seeing that consensus was for GA Coordinators and the process appears to be moving ahead, I thought I'd drop a note here to say your name not being in consideration is a shame. The role isn't defined yet, but you have been working the backend for a long time. That said, this is merely my appreciation, it's understandable if it's not something you want to get into (I see you're turning down mop offers!). Best, CMD (talk) 02:10, 21 February 2023 (UTC)
- CMD, thank you for posting this. I am indeed turning down mop offers, and have done so for lo these many years... I'm not prepared to take on any kind of official role at present, and I'm expecting to be around less over the next few months—I have increasing calls on my time IRL through May at least. I hadn't heard about GA Coordinators per se (presumably mostly in charge of GAN), though I have seen mention of GAR coordinators, which is an area I'm not really interested in. Better to get people who can devote the time and energy. Thanks again! BlueMoonset (talk) 03:52, 21 February 2023 (UTC)
Construction, Reconstruction
The other day I went through and rebuilt the DYK HoF. One of the things that stuck out in my mind was the Yoninah tribute we put together, so I added a new page to the HOF. One thing, I can only remember the Frank Sinatra set done a few years ago. Have there been others? If so, I'd love to know. --evrik (talk) 15:39, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- evrik, I don't remember all of them, but there was the Star Trek 50th anniversary on September 8, 2016 (three sets), and the Apollo 11 moon landing 50th anniversary on July 21, 2019 (archived on July 22). I have the impression that there's been something more recently than 2019, but can't call it to mind. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:11, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- That was a big help. I added the Stra Trek and Apollo ones. --evrik (talk) 01:53, 26 July 2023 (UTC)

Koffi Olomide
Hi @BlueMoonset, I appreciate your quick response and for clarifying the DYK criteria regarding the "Koffi Olomide" article. I'm here seeking assistance. I haven't been on Wikipedia for quite some time, and I still consider myself relatively new to this platform. I would like your guidance in nominating both the "Koffi Olomide" and "Fally Ipupa" articles for Good Article status, with the hope of eventually featuring them on DYK. However, I would like to determine their suitability for Good Article status first. Best regards! EdwinAlden.1995 (talk) 01:52, 24 September 2023 (UTC)
- EdwinAlden.1995, you can determine the suitability of an article to be a GA by checking against the Good Article criteria. Instructions for nominating an article are here; it also describes the review process. Those two pages should give you what you need to get started. BlueMoonset (talk) 20:03, 24 September 2023 (UTC)

Hello
Thank you for your edit at Talk:Jenin refugee camp, but in your edit summary you state that I am non-EC, but while it is true that I do not have 500 edits I am EC per my request at WP:PERM due to a previous account of mine being EC. —M3ATH (See · Say) 22:43, 4 December 2023 (UTC)
- M3ATH, that makes things a lot easier with the nomination, then. Congratulations. I didn't realize this was possible. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:28, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for what you do and stand for! I wish you a good festive season and a peaceful New Year! - Do you understand that AbelWV is the new number for the composer's works, like BWV for Bach? BWV is possibly better known than Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis, and something similar should happen for AbelWV. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:56, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
Listening to a radio celebration of his birthday (a bit early) in a 2-hour-concert. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:57, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you, Gerda Arendt, for the seasonal wishes. I wish you an excellent holiday season and a happy and healthy New Year.
- Yes, I understand BWV, HWV, TWV, and many others. It would be nice if AbelWV becomes more known in the future; in part, it will depend on concert presenters using the numbers in their programs and also recordings including the the numbers in their materials, such as CD covers and tracklists. For the purposes of a hook, however, this is a new designation that no one is going to know (and they can learn it by clicking on the article), and WP:DYKMOS is very clear that a hook
should also not contain parentheses – with the exception of the media marker – unless absolutely unavoidable.
It's avoidable here, which is yet another reason why it should not be included. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:25, 20 December 2023 (UTC)- Today, I have a special story to tell, of the works of a musician born 300 years ago. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:39, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

Current GAN on Penang
Hi there, after lurking through current GA nominations, I realized that one of them, Penang, was previously invalidated roughly a year ago as it was self-nominated and passed with the use of sockpuppets, who edited exclusively on Penang and Penang-related articles, including on George Town, Penang, which was also delisted for identical reasons.
While it is indeed true that these cases will not prevent a future nomination at some point in the future via an independent GA review, the fact that the current nominator is a fresh account created only about a month or so ago that is *also* exclusively editing on Penang and Penang-related articles in an identical manner (including George Town, Penang among others) seems oddly quick, suspicious and convenient. With their edits, it seems like they also intend to put George Town, Penang up for GAN as well after Penang gets re-passed as a GA. What do you think? 1.226.202.75 (talk) 05:03, 25 December 2023 (UTC)

Move to queue
Happy new year. I've had a look through your talk archive as to why you can't promote preps to queue yourself. I hear what you say but suggest that it's possible to use the tools in that one (DYK) area of the 'pedia only. Whilst some experience the RfA process itself as stressful, I reckon you'd have a chance of getting 100% support (unless there are skeletons somewhere that I'm not aware of). Happy to chat offline if you wish; my email is open. Schwede66 19:13, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
- Schwede66, thank you for the expression of confidence. I'm simply not interested in becoming an admin, which I know will prove stressful to me—not the RfA, but the everyday. As you will have seen, people do occasionally try to recruit me for admin ranks here, most recently in January 2023. While I'm honored, I haven't changed my mind, and this past year has had my lowest level of Wikipedia activity yet. I'm happy with what I'm able to do now, keeping track of things around DYK and working to help various areas move more smoothly. BlueMoonset (talk) 21:07, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
- You are doing a very fine job indeed. In my books, with 1748 edits during 2023, you are not a "low activity" editor, but I do acknowledge that you had higher edit counts in years prior. Personally, I find mopping at DYK a totally stress-free experience. On few occasions, I've been "yelled at" at ITN. Editors often don't like it when you read them the riot act, but any admin could choose to simply not go there. Be it as it may, it's of course your choice.
- If you do experience stress and it's caused by another editor being unreasonable or worse, please consider reaching out to me. I may weigh in if I think it appropriate. Schwede66 21:29, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, Schwede66; I appreciate the offer. My stress levels around DYK are virtually non-existent, and have been for some years, but they weren't always—there was a period where things were toxic on the DYK talk page, and is part of why I gave up building prep sets. (There was also someone else then who was later identified as a sock who made things pretty miserable and got away with a lot of crap; it was a relief when they were finally blocked.) Should something particularly untoward occur in future, I'll let you know. I hope you're having a happy new year! BlueMoonset (talk) 23:31, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
