Disambiguation link notification for August 12
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Kalnujai, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Saint Victor. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

- Hi there! I apologize for the delay in my response; I've been on a break from Wikipedia. Thank you for reaching out! I would be happy to join the Wikiproject, but I wanted to let you know that I typically edit Wikipedia periodically. This means I might take sudden breaks for a month or two. If that's okay, I would love to join. Ačiū :) Blowwhite (Talk) 12:05, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Blowwhite: Hi, it is absolutely okey how much time you can spend in Wikipedia. :) Every help in Lithuania-related topics is welcome. :) Being a part of the WikiProject Lithuania makes it easier for you and other Lithuanians to discuss Lithuania-related topics in English Wikipedia. By the way, I strongly suggest you to reply to other users using templates {{replyto|User name}} or {{ping|User name}} because this way user to who you are replying receives a notification and can easier follow the discussion. :) -- Pofka (talk) 13:42, 23 November 2024 (UTC)

Polish name
[edit]Hi, I noticed that you are consequently removing Polish names in articles about Lithuanian towns or people (examples: [1], [2], [3] and others). Why are you doing this? Marcelus (talk) 17:17, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, only removing uncited (as stated in the comments) Polonized names. Town's names that do have a citation, are left in the article :) Blowwhite (Talk) 17:23, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- You removed the Polish name 'Zuboviene' despite finding a source that uses it (which you yourself confirmed in the edit description). Also, you shouldn't remove anything just because there is no source attached to it. First of all, you can check yourself if the Polish name is correct; secondly, you should only remove potentially controversial unsourced content. I don't know how the Polish name of a town can be seen as controversial. Marcelus (talk) 18:56, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- It appears that the issue is not related to the specific naming of the towns. To gain a better understanding of the matter, it would be beneficial for you to re-examine the comments that I previously left on my edits. Blowwhite (Talk) 19:07, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- Where is the source in this case? Your edits seem a bit inconsequential Marcelus (talk) 20:33, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- In the case you mentioned: When searched on search engines, there are 1000+ results, with variuos historical research articles using the form of the name I added. As in Lithuanian sources, Polish name forms are extremelly rare for people who lived in Lithuania, as it causes confusion.
- It seems strange to me that here you used a contemporary source from 2019. I must let you know that by that logic, we can add, let's say Lithuanian name forms to every article about every city on earth. As Lithuanian exclusively use translated names of foreign cities, just by citing a modern Lithuanian-language source. Blowwhite (Talk) 10:04, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Your edits are troubling and run counter to Wikipedia's accepted standards. First, you remove Polish names of Lithuanian localities, citing the lack of a source as a pretext. After I added a very reliable source (the official list of Polish exonyms), you removed these names from the lead section, moving them further down in the article, where they are less visible. Moreover, you are now challenging the source as "too contemporary," which is completely incomprehensible to me. Marcelus (talk) 11:53, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Good day.
- From my perspective, your primary interest appears to be in the visibility of the name, rather than the fact of the name itself. Furthermore, your focus is solely on Polish names, despite the fact that numerous Lithuanian towns had Yiddish and German forms, for which you see no problem being further down the article. This behaviour is similar to nationalistic sentiments, which is not aligned with Wikipedia's established standards.
- As I stated before many Lithuanian towns had so many different name forms, to avoid confusion in the very first sentence of the article, an additional paragraph was created in the article, outlining the origin of the name and the various name forms which are stated clearly. In accordance of numeriuos articles of other Lithuanian and foreign cities and towns. One exception is border towns and town's with substancial minority which still actively uses the name different from the standard form. Blowwhite (Talk) 12:17, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Why, then, did you remove the Polish name of Varėna from the lead? The town was part of Poland before World War II, and to this day, a significant portion of the population (about 5%) is Polish. You are contradicting your own stated principles (not to mention Wikipedia's guidelines). Marcelus (talk) 12:31, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- According to the Department of National Minorities, the areas with the largest minority populations in Lithuania are in Švenčionys, Trakai, Vilnius, Šalčininkai and the Visaginas district municipalities. This is particularly evident in towns where bilingualism is the norm. Although it is a matter of discussion what is a significant portion of the population. The 5% figure you mentioned appears to be a long shot, when compared to the Polish party LLRA proposal this year to the Lithuanian government, to designate an area to be multi-ethnic where at least 10% of non-Lithuanians live. Blowwhite (Talk) 12:53, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Can you explain those edits: [4], [5], [6], [7]. You added Lithuanian names to localities that are not on the Lithuanian border, were never part of Lithuania, and have no Lithuanian minority. Forgive me, but it's hard to identify any consistent logic here. Marcelus (talk) 13:40, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- You're are always free to remove them if you feel like it. :) Blowwhite (Talk) 14:53, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
