Relief Society magazine
[edit]Hello Jskozlowski and Bldriggs,
I'm the Wikipedian-in-residence at the BYU Library. I have been editing pages on Mormon studies topics on Wikipedia for a few years now. I noticed that you recently made edits to the Relief Society magazine page for a class assignment. Thank you for expanding the page! Everyone should know more about the Relief Society Magazine. It is improving with your additions.
I noticed that you also added some original research to the page, which is not allowed on Wikipedia. Every statement on the page must be able to be traced back to a secondary or even primary source to maintain text-source integrity. The following are original research:
- "Make note of the drop in subscribers between 1930 and 1932, which coincides with the start of the Great Depression. These appear to be the only years that the magazine decreased in subscribers."
- "[the magazine] built a unity among Mormon women across the United States and world."
- "A continually growing global audience, expansion of male authorship, and a limited access to all writers all played a significant role; however, these all culminated in the Priesthood Correlation Program in December 1970." - this whole "Discontinuation" section has two citations, but the Encyclopedia of Mormonism article does not support all of the information in the preceding paragraph. "Male Authorship" is supported, but it is unclear what source supports the sentence "This demographic shift played a significant role in the eventual Priesthood Correlation Program".
Please add sources for this information or remove it. Since you are BYU students, I am happy to help teach you how to edit Wikipedia if you need further assistance. You can email me at rachel_helps@byu.edu or stop by my office in the BYU Library, which is in the administrative area on the second floor of the atrium.
