Jersey numbers in infobox

What don't you like about the jersey number where it is?Chris Nelson 00:58, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

I think you're right about the position thing, I'm sure there is a good argument for that. But I do think the numbers are important, the numbers are a part of a player's image. It should definitely try to be included in the article, and I trying to somewhat copy the MLB infoboxes.Chris Nelson 01:05, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Can you try to add the '— No.' to the team bar to see how that looks? I don't know how to do that kind of thing.Chris Nelson 15:22, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

I like it. But I'm sure everyone will hate it only because it's different. I just think it looks stupid as hell in the box itself, doesn't it? It's got no length to it, a single number there just looks dumb.Chris Nelson 15:24, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Retired Players

That's where retired players under contract go. The team's Reserve/Retired list. It's not made up.Chris Nelson 18:27, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

It doesn't have to be verified because it is the ONLY possible outcome. It is the only thing that could happen to Tiki or anyone based on their actions.Chris Nelson 02:57, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

ATH

That was my fault. I even checked the history incorrectly. I updated Cowlishaw because I was going to do yesterday's updates, so Mariotti, Paige, and Adande were actually by accident. When I saw the history again, I saw that you had updated it, so I changed Cowlishaw's to Smith's. As for the other 4, well, it's progress from about 15 that I got on average 2 weeks ago. It'll be down further by tomorrow. 21:56, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

I think it was you who removed all the images yesterday. I think some of them should be added back. Can you explain why you feel none except the main image belong. I have asked others for their opinion. You have undone some things that were added specifically to address GA on hold concerns (on the talk page). You removed some citations that I feel are necessary for specific statements. I think the first time in a pitchers career that he takes the league lead in ERA is an important day. I did not mention that this was the first time in his career that he took the lead. I am going to readd the para with explanation of its significance. I think the editor before you removed the brawl. I think this should be in the article. Do you agree? I have to look more closely at some of your edits, but I am going to replace some things. --TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 14:22, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

I have finished readding things I would like included. Included are 5 box score citations. I have debated this topic quite heavily at several WP:FACs. I think internet box scores are an improvement for internet era athletes. I'll be logged for much of the day. Hit my talk page and or reedit the page as you see fit.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 14:56, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

POV at Barack Obama FAR

[[1]] seems to say that there is concensus (even on Rezko) someone may conclude. This is not the case. I am writing to you because you are a recent talk contributor. There is a debate on ig the article should remain a Featured Article or if it no longer qualifies (if edit warring stops then it may qualify, being a FA or not doesn't say Obama is good or bad). Undrafted free agents in NFL infobox

Hi, I'm writing you because you have previously posted on Template talk:Infobox NFLactive and I would like your opinion on an addition I made that is being contested. I have added a field to the infobox called "undraftyear", and when a year is entered it adds a line under a guy's college that says "Undrafted in 1997" or whatever year is appropriate. I did this because I felt there should be something noting a guy went undrafted, similar to the info for drafted players that was already in place. To see how this would look in an article, see here or here. If you would be in favor of this edit, I'd ask you to kindly voice this at Template talk:Infobox NFLactive#Undrafted free agents. It is being contested by one person because they feel the year should not be there. I feel the year is important, just as the year of drafting is important. I also feel that since we have an NFL debut section in the infobox as well as a listed of teams and years played for each, it wouldn't cause any confusion. So if you're okay with this edit or you'd like to get in the discussion, I'd encourage you to do so. Thanks!►Chris Nelson 22:24, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Re: Kobel

If you notice, the wording in each of those sources is different. Some say he received an injury settlement and was waived, some say the opposite. My point? If you went and polled the average NFL beat reporter, they likely wouldn't know the technicalities of the NFL waiver/transaction system. So when they see that Kobel was "waived/injured," they most likely are led to believe that he was injured and received an "injury settlement" was released, as "injury settlement" is something that is likely in their vocabulary/realm of knowledge. But in reality, "waived/injured" is a process by which a team is required to pass younger/inexperienced players (usually with 1 or fewer accrued seasons) through waivers before they can place the player on injured reserve. This is, in Bill Belichick's words, "to maintain the competitive balance of the league." Now, in July, the Patriots waived/injured Justise Hairston. This is the Patriots' press release when this occured. This proves that their PR department isn't even aware of the technicalities involved. Another source is this blog post from Mike Reiss, who is about as good as it gets in the Boston media. Of course, he was working off that very same press release, but that's all any media members have to go off for smaller, insignificant moves like this where nobody in the organization has the incentive to leak information. Anyway, the next day, Hairston passed through waivers and another press release was issued, stating he was placed on IR. Kobel very well could have received an injury settlement. But the process for that goes Waived/Injured, Reserve/Injured, Injury settlement. And since none of your sources mention IR at all, I'm very skeptical that they know exactly what they're talking about. The overwhelming majority of the moves I post on roster templates come from Pro Football Weekly's transaction listings. They have the official/"formerly reported to the NFL office" wire on these, and I could give you a glut of minor transactions, reserve listings, and injury settlements that no media outlet has ever picked up on. They tend to update their transaction page every day or two. I have been following their Pats ones for years now, and I've only seen two mistakes - a spelling mistake (typo) and one transaction they omitted/forgot to post. But if you look at the August 2007 transactions for PHI, you'll see what actually happened with Kobel. Now, this bears repeating: it is still quite possible that Kobel did receive an injury settlement (AFTER he was placed on IR) and was released. But since PFW updated their transactions today (the latest is 8/29), that means that injury settlement had to have officially taken place today. So we'll have to see if that actually did occur when PFW posts their 8/30 transactions today, or possible over the weekend some time. Until then, his status is Reserve/Injured. Pats1 22:16, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

I understand what you're saying, but I do disagree with the assumption that the average NFL beat writer would hear something like "waived/injured" and thing injury settlement. I think it's very likely they would never come to "injury settlement" unless hearing that phrase, since it isn't a huge part of the NFL and rarely happens to name guys.►Chris Nelson 22:18, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
And I don't care what we do with this or not so I have no problem waiting and I'm not going to make any edits regarding this. Just throwing in my two cents.►Chris Nelson 22:19, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
