CBC Radio 2 vs. CBC Music
[edit]Even if it's true that CBC Radio 2 has rebranded as CBC Music, please note that simply cutting and pasting content from one article into another is never acceptable under Wikipedia's processes. We will, rather, have to handle the change in a much more complex way that will require much more careful handling so as not to lose the articles' edit histories. Let Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada handle it, please, and do not cut and paste content — we will have to merge pages, not just cut and paste them. We will also need an actual reliable source to address the change — they just seconds ago aired a station break that said "This is Radio 2", so while that may possibly just have been a technical error we can't just take your word for it: we need a media source that actually states it as a fact, not just one editor saying so. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 02:30, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
- For another example of why you need to wait, articles are not allowed to be left sitting in redlinked categories. So the articles have to stay in Category:CBC Radio 2 stations until such time as our processes get an alternative "CBC Music stations" in place — they cannot be moved to that category when it doesn't exist yet. It's a bit trickier and more complicated than just being able to do it in a flash. If the new name of the radio network had been anything other than the same name as the website, we could have just done it in two minutes flat — but under the actual circumstances, we have to move the article about the website to another title, then move R2 to CBC Music, then review all of its existing inbound links to sort out whether they have a contextual need to point to the website instead of the radio network, and then discuss whether the website really needs a separate article at all anymore instead of just a subsection of the radio network's article. We'll get it done — it's just going to take more time to sort out all the complications than it would have if the website wasn't already sitting on the "CBC Music" title. - I've got the heavy lifting done now, though I can't guarantee that there aren't some minor linkfixes left to change over that I haven't caught yet. Bearcat (talk) 00:35, 22 February 2018 (UTC)
