- Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
- It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
- If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
- Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
- When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
- If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
- Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.
Happy editing! Cheers, -MPGuy2824 (talk) 08:08, 3 March 2023 (UTC)
Your edits to Kulfi and Barfi
[edit]Hello, I'm Ram1751. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you.
Hello, I'm Ram1751. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you.

- @Ram1751 thank you for the information, it was a bit confusing to understand in which way my edits were not enough reliable source but I do understand looking back that there were some really complicated edits which were not making much sense. Bikrampuri (talk) 06:41, 6 March 2023 (UTC)
- Please see below. Your new edits to these articles were still unsourced (they did not cite any reliable sources) and seemed promotional (they appeared to be promoting Bengali culture). Hence they have been reverted.
- Please do not add or change content without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you.
- Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. - Ram1751 (talk) 19:16, 6 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Ram1751 I'm sorry 😔 for that. But the thing is I'm not trying to "promote" anything Bengali. I'm just adding something which is less known but not been seen in Wikipedia. Anything South Asian can't just named as "Indian", the Mughal empire has ruled the whole subcontinent that specific flavor of kulfi did originated from Kushtia and I wouldn't had add those if I wouldn't had find any picture of it. I'm not saying kulfi is not a part of the Indian cuisine but it's not just India, countries around which had once been ruled by the Mughal empire, they all deserves it but I'll not going to make anymore edits on those two articles but I'm not "promoting" something I'm just adding the truth. And when it comes to Burfi, it already says it's South Asian and I'm not changing the origins as it is truly Indian but I'm just adding variations which is exists even outside of India just like how variations of Indian Halwa exists in the Halva article even it's originally Persian although in this case Burfi is not "just Indian". It will look like wikipedia is promoting India too much even though the cuisines are South Asian if we don't add enough words about other cultures of South Asia as well. It was a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion which I tried to change. Bikrampuri (talk) 22:38, 6 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Bikrampuri Your last sentence implies you have an axe to grind with Wikipedia on its coverage of Indian/South Asian topics - you say it is currently a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion, which you are here to change. This suggests you have an agenda and are not here to build an encyclopedia. If you want to convince people of the merits of your opinions, you might wish to start a blog or visit a forum.[1] Also, Wikipedia's sister project Wikinews has "opinion" pages allowing commentary on articles. - Ram1751 (talk) 00:36, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
- Ram1751, that's nonsense. Someone says "Wikipedia is being used improperly and I'd like to fix that", and you call that "an agenda"? All of us here who strive to keep Wikipedia in good shape have an agenda—to keep Wikipedia in good shape. "Agenda" is not a dirty word. In this case, what you called an "agenda" was stated as a concern for even balance, which is a good thing, making that a good agenda. Whether or not it was stated sincerely or accurately is a different matter, but your response was to the message written. Largoplazo (talk) 20:02, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Largoplazo Thank you so much for understanding. I didn't wanted to be rude to him as wikipedia is a place to learn but not to fight. Is there anyway to report to any account or something else similar to do? Bikrampuri (talk) 22:14, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
- and also I don't how can I advertise a culture or history that's doesn't make sense at all Bikrampuri (talk) 22:15, 8 March 2023 (UTC)

- and also I don't how can I advertise a culture or history that's doesn't make sense at all Bikrampuri (talk) 22:15, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Largoplazo, this user's edits clearly constitute national WP:ADVOCACY. Most of all, they are unsourced. I have repeatedly pointed this user to Wikipedia resources and policies on referencing and citing reliable sources, and they have continued to make unsourced edits in violation of these policies. Ram1751 (talk) 23:57, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
- "Clearly" is a pointless word to use in response to someone who already indicates disagreement with you on that very point. I haven't made a survey of Bikrampuri's edits, but I'm talking about your response to what they wrote here. WP:ADVOCACY begins "Advocacy is the use of Wikipedia to promote personal beliefs or agendas at the expense of Wikipedia's goals and core content policies, including verifiability and neutral point of view." Bikrampuri's purpose as stated was to counter previous editing that has promoted agendas at the expense of Wikipedia's goals and core content policies. Bringing proper balance to what is not properly balanced is correct Wikipedia editing, the opposite of advocacy.
- If Bikrampuri's actual edits are advocacy, and if they suffer from other deficits such as sourcing and verifiability, that's different. But I was reacting to your direct response to Bikrampuri's words here, where you literally held forth publicly that balancing Wikipedia is unpermitted advocacy—as though it were a Wikipedia principle that unbalanced content must be left as is. If what you conveyed isn't what you meant, then you should be clearer about whether you're responding to someone's direct words in the conversation or you're referring to goings-on elsewhere. Largoplazo (talk) 00:31, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- To be crystal clear, I was responding to their actual edits, which are visible in the User contributions section of this page. All the warnings and verbiage I have placed on this page have been in response to their edits. Ram1751 (talk) 01:06, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

Bengali writing in the lead
[edit]Hello. I'd appreciate it if you would stop adding the names of article topics in Bengali to the leads. For reasons, that are explained at WP:INDICSCRIPTS, a guideline has formed that in articles like these Indic scripts should be avoided. Thanks. Largoplazo (talk) 22:27, 6 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Largoplazo Thanks a lot for that information. I'm a beginner and I was actually a bit confused about it, it will help me a lot 🙂. Bikrampuri (talk) 22:40, 6 March 2023 (UTC)
