Dealing with vandalism

[edit]

Hello, sorry to bombard you with messages, but if you find vandalism, like you did at Arabian Peninsula, the correct way to deal with it is to go to the page history and revert it. You might have to go quite far back in some cases, like you would have at the Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians article. Speaking of reversion, I'm just letting you know that some of your edits have been reverted due to overlinking (though some of the links were helpful). See the Manual of Style on linking. Also, deleting comments from your own talk page is OK per the guidelines but not encouraged. Graham87 01:35, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No worries. However, you're lucky that I noticed your message because you wrote it on my user page rather than the correct place, my user talk page. When you write a message on Wikipedia, remember to sign it with four tildes like this: "~~~~". Graham87 05:49, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

List of fictional deities

[edit]

Hello, Benjifriedman! Thanks for your edits at List of fictional deities. I have reverted the Magic: The Gathering one, because previous discussions here and here recommended to limit the list to notable entries. Otherwise there's the risk of deletion of the list alltogether based on being WP:INDISCRIMINATE. As far as I could see, this would have limited the Magic: The Gathering entries to Avacyn only. I am not really familiar with that, but in a quick search I have always seen Avacyn called an archangel or something comparable, but not a deity. If you think she should count as one, I invite you to restore Avacyn, but provide a source for the status as a deity. Otherwise it would could as WP:Original research. Thanks! Daranios (talk) 11:03, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Daranios, it's kind of tricky, I'm ok with it either way and someone might have a stronger opinion. Avacyn fulfills a lot of the qualities of a deity (there is "The Church of Avacyn") but is ultimately "just" an (arch)angel. But then again on the plane of Innistrad there are no "gods" exactly, so she represents "ultimate good", but also, was created by a vampire, which doesn't sound god-like. Benji (talk) 18:28, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Participants in the discussion were pretty insistent that they "don't want the list to be made up of entries so disparate in nature that the term "deity" essentially becomes an equivocation." Based on that, as "deity" in fiction is not very clearly defined, I think we as editor should not make a decision. I think we should only add cases where a primary or secondary source can be found which calls the entity in question a deity, goddess, god. That's my take on that at least. Daranios (talk) 11:42, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For sure. I limited it to entities I definitely thought could be considered deities but can see / agree that Avacyn is kind of a gray area. There are many more "gods" in Magic the Gathering also! I just came across the page and saw the whole game was missing so wanted to add it to some extent. Benji (talk) 16:08, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
