Contrast between /e/ and /ye/? Most definitely yes. Review Old Japanese and Late Old Japanese. As the latter indicates, the contrast vanished by the 10th century around the time that kana came into being. So while it was never distinguished in kana, it was distinguished in Man'yōgana. See also Jōdai Tokushu Kanazukai. Also notice that the phonemes /e/ and /ye/ merged into /e/, but the pronunciation of /e/ was [je] for many centuries. Bendono (talk) 08:12, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Maybe it's none of my bussiness, but anyway. It was not a comment in the non-English language but a direct quote from a source relevant to the discussion, and I can't see why that could cause a problem. Of course, a translation would be a must. But that was forthcoming? I could have provided one or maybe Bendono could have done.

I didn't mean to get everyone all agitated like this, my point was simply what the template says, that on the English language WP, we use English, and if you have information to add that's not in English, it needs to be translated or it can't be used here. In any event, it would still be in the page history if anyone would care to translate it so we can figure out if it does or does not address the verifiability issues with the article. I apologize if I offended anyone, I didn't mean to imply that contributions were not welcome, just that for the sake of coherent conversation where all parties can participate, we should use English.
