Howdy Bender235! The image you had added to the top of Talk:Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was not displaying. I could not figure out how to fix it, so I did the next best thing and created a new section with a Pageviews Analysis graph. Of course, feel free to delete, move, or modify as you see fit. :0) - Mark D Worthen PsyD (talk) (I'm a man—traditional male pronouns are fine.) 04:00, 23 January 2020 (UTC)

H1-N1 edit
On Sunday, March 15 I had opened my email to see that my edit on the H1-N1 page had been flagged as possible vandalism by yourself.
My edit was adding context about the October 2009 announcement surrounding the Obama administration’s declaration of H1-N1 as a public health emergency.
In fact, my comment added context to make the sentence itself more in line with the source it cites.
I also feel this is an important addition because It is in the public interest. Currently this specific point is being used as political fodder, and context would help readers who have encountered this specific internet-lie to distinguish between a fact and a political bent with strong health care and safety consequences. In fact, this news is being used by many to justify dismissing concerns of present outbreaks.
And also, I further resent the labeling of this as “nonsense.” However, if I had gone against some non-written rule, I do apologize. Koan 121 (talk) 03:19, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, the "4im" level of the warning may have been overblown. However, you did add a supposedly factual statement that was not supported by the existing reference, nor did you provide an additional source verifying the statement. Next time please do so. --bender235 (talk) 14:57, 15 March 2020 (UTC)

The file File:Branden Albert cropped.JPG has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
unused, low-res, no obvious use
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:01, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

WD 0346+246
Hi there, just wanted to apologize for reverting your recent edit at WD 0346+246. I glanced at the problematic citation too quickly, was unfamiliar with the "cite arvix" business, and figured it was better just to revert, to bring the page back to a readable state. Then I realized that the whole issue came down to a missing bracket that I should have just fixed. Anyway, just wanted to explain that potentially weird revert. Cheers! ongoing AfD debate
Appreciate your defense because your perspective is exactly how I feel about this whole debate. I'm now banned from posting in the discussion page because the Twitter mob called for my head on a pike (exactly as predicted.) I can't imagine the amount of backlash I'd be facing right now if I was fully doxxed. This isn't about race at all but hyperventilators like Nfitz will just latch on to anything they perceive as "racist" and use it as an uncounterable argument. This website doesn't need to be inundated with pages for people who are popular on the internet but aren't making substantive contributions to their field. Geeferino (talk) 04:52, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
- It's unfortunate that you haven't been given the benefit of WP:AGF in this discussion. I've spent the better part of the last decade trying, among other things, to keep Wikipedia free from resume-style biographies of barely notable people. Unfortunately long standing principles flew out of the window in the wake of a Twitter storm. --bender235 (talk) 04:59, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
- This is more or less a microcosm of what more conservative leaning thinkers within academia face consistently with the Gen Z/"Zoomer" crowd. Tell someone they can't have a thing that they (often wrongfully) think they deserve, and things quickly devolve into identity politics and potentially career-threatening accusations of racism once overzealous social media mobs catch wind of it. Geeferino (talk) 05:30, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
- Hang on - I haven't commented about User:Geeferino - who presumably has no relationship with the blocked sock-puppet which seemed to be created for the express-purpose of creating AFDs for black women. Though looking now ... it does strike me odd that User:Geeferino was created today, and suddenly is (and only is) participating in AFD debates. It's hard not to believe that this isn't an editor operating under another identity. Nfitz (talk) 06:13, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
- Gosh, I hadn't even looked at any of the references until now. I'd assumed they were lousy, and the subject probably wasn't notable. I was simply tackling this from a procedural point, relating to black academics. But a quick check of what's been referenced - well, they aren't great on GNG. But some are borderline. And then a quick Google News check yields not the usual handful of hits, but thousands. And then I realised what's likely going on ... she appears to have spoken out after a recent race-based attack in New York City from before the murder in Minnesota. Which is presumably what has caused so many editors to create new accounts to attack the article. I'm not sure you were aware of this - I certainly wasn't. This smelled bad to me, simply from the sock-puppetry and the two other AFDs ... but now I see it's far worse. I'm not sure this is the hill to die on. I'm concerned you are being played. Nfitz (talk) 06:37, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
- Obviously I contribute to Wikipedia elsewhere. I don't do it frequently, but if I see something that clearly doesn't belong I'll do something about it. People like you would do anything in their power to tar and feather anyone who doesn't fit into their little ideological bubble, which makes not posting under an alias unsafe both personally and professionally. All of this hand-wringing over perceived racism, which to the Woke Disciples of Safetyism is EVERYWHERE, is yet another form of people who have benefited tremendously from the status quo becoming uneasy at the upheaval surrounding them and their institutional milieu, and proceeding to virtue signal their credibility away in the hope that the mob won't come to eat them too, eventually. Geeferino (talk) 06:31, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
- People like me - who oppose racism? You just happened to create a new sockpuppet today to vote for AFD on 3 separate articles about Black American women? Pull the other one. Nfitz (talk) 06:37, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
- This has nothing to do with the fact that they're black you dolt, all three of these individuals are people who are merely popular because being "woke" is very in on Twitter. Black Birders Week might be a significant enough thing to warrant having its own article. That doesn't change the fact that you aided and abetted in a social media mob that started as mere good faith flags of content of dubious value and acted like a jackass by throwing accusations of racism around casually, when what you're doing is effectively racist itself. Ask yourself if you'd care one iota if any of these articles were about someone you wouldn't earn any social media clout by white knighting so valiantly. Geeferino (talk) 06:47, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
- Well, I see that User:Geeferino has been blocked for sock-puppetry. Nfitz (talk) 03:02, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

- @Nfitz: the ANI was closed seconds before I submitted my comment, JFYI. But please, go ahead and list WP:RESUME articles of graduate and undergraduate students on Wikipedia. I will gladly file the AfD if appropriate. The only example I could think of from the top of my head is Ewin Tang, but the notability is clear-cut in this case since her scientific contributions alone suffice for WP:ACADEMIC standards. Oh, and a second one may be Evan O'Dorney, also subject to wide media coverage for his academic achievements (for almost a decade). In yesterday's AfD, on the contrary, we were talking about someone who's claim to fame is a student club and a Twitter hashtag. --bender235 (talk) 20:47, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

Wikihounding
Hello @Bender235: -- you have now disputed three of my Wikipedia pages and one of my categories over the past five days. You are following me around Wikipedia trying to get my pages deleted. This is a form of harassment WP:WIKIHOUNDING. I ask that you please stop following me, as you are violating the very rules of Wikipedia you claim to uphold so carefully. Thank you. MethanoJen (talk) 01:26, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
- @MethanoJen: I'm not hounding anyone on Wikipedia. I'm keeping an eye on newly created articles. The biographies you've created are of high quality, but some of them unfortunately don't meet our notability criteria for academics. I would suggest you follow Xxanthippe's and David Epstein's advice of "going for low-hanging fruits," i.e. articles "where notability is rock-solid." --bender235 (talk) 15:09, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Bender235: You are most certainly WP:WIKIHOUNDING. Here is the definition: "Hounding on Wikipedia (or "wikihounding") is the singling out of one or more editors, joining discussions on multiple pages or topics they may edit or multiple debates where they contribute, to repeatedly confront or inhibit their work.....Hounding usually involves following the target from place to place on Wikipedia....Many users track other users' edits, although usually for collegial or administrative purposes. This should always be done carefully, and with good cause, to avoid raising the suspicion that an editor's contributions are being followed to cause them distress, or out of revenge for a perceived slight." That is the precise definition of what you are doing to my pages, possibly out of revenge for "canvassing" (for which I already apologized and deleted said tweet). I can assure you that you are making me VERY uncomfortable by following me now to four separate pages/categories and recommending deletion. I would refer you to numerous stubs on Wikipedia that would benefit from your editing energy, instead of stalking me around the Wikipedia sites. Please read the Wikipedia policy carefully. You are clearly violating it, and now escalating the situation by refusing to apologize and stop doing it. MethanoJen (talk) 15:40, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
- I apologize if the AfD or maintenance templates caused any distress on your part, but this is normal procedure on Wikipedia. None of this is meant as a personal attack on you or the subjects of your articles. If you won't take my word for it, please report the issue to WP:AN/I and see what other Wikipedians think about this. If you don't know how to, I will self-report. --bender235 (talk) 15:59, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Bender235: There are millions of other pages for you to edit or debate AfD issues on Wikipedia. Why are you focusing on mine? That's a question for you to consider with yourself. Please consider this a warning. I have politely asked you to stop following me. I will report if you follow me to another site to flag AfD. That's not a coincidence -- you are hounding me. Stop following me. Thank you. MethanoJen (talk) 16:43, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
- I already suggested that you report his if you don't believe me, so no need to threaten anything. As a matter of fact, though, no Wikipedian owns any particular article of theirs. And as an immediate corollary, nobody gets to choose who is allowed to place maintenance templates or raise notability questions, and who doesn't. Again, I suggest you report this to WP:AN/I if you don't believe me. --bender235 (talk) 16:55, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

Bot running into hilarious error
Looking at the log I noticed this line repeatedly:
Bender the Bot talk contribs caused a spam blacklist hit on Divya Spandana by attempting to add http://bellitere.com/sanju-weds-geetha-movie-review.html.
I thought you may want to know in case it's looping. Jerod Lycett (talk) 17:30, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
- Yeah, I found it. Is there some way to get rid of this? --bender235 (talk) 17:44, 17 June 2020 (UTC)

- @Jerodlycett: the same happened at Jhinjhana, but {{Webarchive}} won't fix it. Is WT:SWL the best option there? --bender235 (talk) 15:19, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

Clearly you have some confirmation, but all I can find is this tweet. Does the tweet suffice as an RS or do we need to wait? Wikiacc (¶) 02:29, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
- In my opinion it suffices. But after looking around for a bit, here's an Egyptian news website confirming it. --bender235 (talk) 02:52, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
Unrelated, but this looks to me like a MediaWiki bug. Viewing the history page while logged in is accurate. But while logged out (eg, in an incognito/private window) the most recent revision I see is 14:24, 19 June 2020. Is it the same for you? Do you have any clue what's going on? Thanks for cleaning up my Google book citation links
Thank you for having your AWB bot correct the Google book citation links I made. I live in Thailand and I didn't know that there was a policy to prefer the dot com url. I now know and will check for that. --Ian Korman (talk) 06:39, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
- It's actually not a policy, just a general clean-up measure. My main concern was the link clutter in Google Books links that generally should be removed. --bender235 (talk) 16:34, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

Curly quotes
Re Wikipedia_talk:Manual_of_Style/Archive_219#Revisiting_curly_quotes,_again
@Dicklyon, David Eppstein, KarasuGamma, and Pythoncoder: I agree vigorously with your preference for curly quotes. They are typographically correct and look much better, and the "technical" arguments against them are bogus. Even if it were true that there's a non-trivial number of browsers which don't support searching for curly using straight, how often do users actually search for quotes at all? If 1% of browsers don't support search, and 1% of users search for quotes, we're talking 0.01% of searches being made slightly more difficult. But there are lots of other things that aren't searchable. You pointed out the different forms of dash and hyphen; also, math and text in illustrations (e.g. maps), for example, are mostly not searchable.
Anyway, I'm writing to let you know that I support you strongly and will be happy to be pinged the next time this issue comes up so I can lend my support publicly. --Macrakis (talk) 22:03, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
- I will keep it in mind. I'm afraid though, it's an endless fight. --bender235 (talk) 23:34, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
Draft namespace?
Hey B235, it looks like the draft namespace is not within the scope of Bender the Bot's URL correction efforts. If I'm correct, would it be possible for the bot to make its edits in that namespace as well? Thanks, UnitedStatesian (talk) 17:39, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
- I actually don't see why it should be. --bender235 (talk) 18:07, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
- Many of the drafts, esp. those close to publication, may use the old http:// URLs rather than the https:// versions, and may have other URL issues; it probably makes sense for the bot to make the corrections while the page is in draft, so it doesn't come over to mainspace with the error that would need to be fixed later. Just my 2p. Thanks, UnitedStatesian (talk) 14:06, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- I run the bot repeatedly, so once a draftspace article is moved to article namespace, it'll be fixed. --bender235 (talk) 16:02, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- Got it, thanks. UnitedStatesian (talk) 16:30, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
