Wikiproject F1

[edit]

Hi. Welcome to Wikiproject F1.

You may have noticed that we have set up a monthly 'Article Improvement Drive' to provide us with the selected articles on portal:Formula One. So far we have got Damon Hill up to Featured Article status (It appeared on the Wikipedia front page on 3 August) and Gilles Villeneuve up to Good Article status, so we're not doing too badly!

The current article up for improvement is Minardi - the very popular small Italian team, bought by Red Bull at the end of last year. Feel free to help out with it. Also see Portal_talk:Formula_One/Management of selected articles for how you can vote on the next article to be up for improvement. Cheers. 4u1e 20:14, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Commercial use of Image:Bektour large.jpg

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Bektour large.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Bektour large.jpg has a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission, which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3). While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[1][2]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:Bektour large.jpg itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. If you have any questions about what to do next or why your image was nominated for speedy deletion please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thanks. --Android Mouse Bot 2 12:37, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Elena_Skochilo.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Elena_Skochilo.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 13:48, 28 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Wikidudeman (talk) 13:48, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Kloop logo.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Kloop logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 14:07, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Project News
  • As you may have seen, the talk page banner changed a bit. It has a couple of bugs (most notably the categorisation problems), but the {{WPBannerMeta}} standardisation was long overdue. Thank you to Dendodge for sorting it.
  • The newsletter's back after a very positive reaction, and thanks are again due to Dendodge.
  • Article adoptions: Heather Mills will be a hot topic next month, as the truth will be referenced.
  • The hottest Project page this month has been The Quarrymen (now a GA). It reveals the most accurate history of their early days, because so many other web pages tell a completely untrue story (one web page said they lost a Carroll Levis competition to a woman who played the spoons :)

Issue of the Month

Apart from the usual vandals, there is an ongoing problem with Wikipedia editors deleting free and fair-use photos because they don't think they are of any value to articles, even though this sometimes leaves articles with no photos at all. These editors do not leave notes on talk pages, so if you see that a photo has vanished, check the talk page and the history log.

From the Editors

It's been a while, but the newsletter's back! After a short discussion on the project talk page, seemingly unanimous consensus to bring it back was reached. This issue, and subsequent ones, will probably be shorter - as we kept running out of things to say before! There's a lot to say this month, purely due to the long absence of a newsletter, but we'll keep it as brief as possible.

In order to get delivery by Denbot sorted, the special delivery interface has been changed slightly - but existing delivery options still stand. Inactive participants who want delivery should place their names on this list.

If you've just joined, add your name to the Participants section of Wikipedia:WikiProject The Beatles. You'll get a mention in the next issue of the Newsletter and get it delivered as desired. Also, please include your own promotions and awards in future issues. Don't be shy!

Lastly, this is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue (Issue 014 – August 2008). Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned, or just start editing!

The great 'The/the debates' return. Just a glance at The Beatles' talk page will show you the massive amount of space this trivial issue takes up. Some editors have chosen to boycott these debates entirely, and we now have two separate entries in WP:LAME - The 'The/the debates' and the 'member order feud'. Consensus to use a capital 'T' was reached in a straw poll. Editors are reminded not to change the case of the 'T' without first changing consensus.

Bishkek questions

[edit]

Hey! I'm an American and am going to college in Bishkek for a year starting this September. I saw on your user page that you would be happy to answer questions, and I have some:

-about how much is the rent for apartments?

-From what I understand Bishkek is pretty Russified and non-Muslim (at least not practicing), but are there any noticeable cultural differences from Russians that stand out (for example never shake hands or don't kiss when greeting)? I guess I'm asking will I be fine if I act Russian with my gestures and body language?

-About work, I am right in assuming that considering the economy and the fact I'm a foreigner a small job would be hard to get?

Thanks -Alexander Tobri (talk) 01:43, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

[edit]

Hello, Bektour. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve.
