Beatley: You're very welcome here, but could you please check your translations for accuracy and formatting of the references? The WMF's translation tool is really not good. Yngvadottir (talk) 01:36, 27 July 2016 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

A page you started (Jennifer Klein) has been reviewed!

Thanks for creating Jennifer Klein, Beatley!

Wikipedia editor Blythwood just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

Looks good. So that it's clear who the person is and how they're notable, I've put a summary of their research and how they're notable in the first sentence, and added some non-academic sources to demonstrate interest in their work. Also given the article the "living people" categorisation, which sometimes helps such articles get better scrutiny and reduced vandalism.

To reply, leave a comment on Blythwood's talk page.

Thanks for creating Ernestine Friedrichsen, Beatley!

Wikipedia editor Blythwood just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

Looks good, although a few more web citations would be great. I've linked the article with the German one, and added a source from Google Books (it's not fully digitised, but one can see snippets that confirm the information here).

Hello. A tag has been placed on Manuel Vera Vázquez requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.  MONARCH Talk to me 19:52, 1 September 2016 (UTC)

Julia Wolfe Photograph

Hi Beatley. Composer Julia Wolfe asked me the other day if it is possible to remove the photo you added to her page which I see was taken from the MacArthur Foundation. https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/File:Wolfe_2016_hi-res-download_4.jpg I have contributed to wikipedia a fair amount but I admit the intricacies of copyright law for media usage on Wikipedia are confusing to me... I know however, that she would be happy to make available an alternative image. I would appreciate your help with this.

When creating a new article by translation from another wiki, as you did at Adolf Georg von Maltzan, please give the attribution using the {{translated}} template on the talk page, as I have now done. Thanks, 103.6.159.78 (talk) 16:40, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

Templates

If you're going to add templates that draw from Wikidata, please take the time to ensure that (a) they actually have content, (b) that content matches the article, and (c) it is supported by sources other than Wikipedia. Nikkimaria (talk) 01:39, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

@Nikkimaria: The reason the years of birth/death don't match in some cases is because of a bug in the module that retrieves data from Wikidata, the actually entries are correct (you'll notice the template always displays one year earlier than it should). I've reported it at Module talk:Wikidata#getDateValue returns wrong value so hopefully it will be fixed soon. As such you might want to hold off removing templates simply because the DOB/DOD doesn't match, as it's just a temporary problem. – Joe (talk) 04:02, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
@Joe Roe: It's the responsibility of anyone adding a template to make sure the output is reasonable, whether it's a bug or an error that it is not. We shouldn't be displaying obviously incorrect info, even temporarily (and this hasn't been a short-term problem). Nikkimaria (talk) 04:11, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
@Nikkimaria: Of course, but usually when a template has a minor bug we don't remove it from all the pages it's used on (419 in this case). A more sensible way of correcting the information is to fix the bug. – Joe (talk) 04:28, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
No one has proposed removing it from all the pages it's used on; in many of those cases it's used appropriately. However, this bug does highlight the need for some users of the template to take more care with it, as was the point of my original post here. Nikkimaria (talk) 04:34, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
I am surprised that no one has proposed removing it universally. In all cases, it appears to violate WP:BLP by adding information to articles about living people without adding sources that meet Wikipedia's standards. (There may be sources on Wikidata, but the standards are different there, and BLP doesn't allow the sources to be over on some other site in a non-human-readable format.) —David Eppstein (talk) 18:46, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
i'm surprised you are making up strawmen. reread WP:INFOBOXREF. you need to change the guideline, until then i will follow it. Beatley (talk) 18:49, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
I just reread WP:INFOBOXREF. It says "all information in an infobox should also be found in the main body of an article". Your imported data from Wikidata manifestly does not obey that standard. I found multiple instances of infoboxes that you added which included claims (about birthdays etc) that were not in the main body, not sourced by the references of the article, and not adequately sourced on Wikidata itself. —David Eppstein (talk) 18:56, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
read it again. yes, the wikidata is imported from the wikipedia article. if there are bugs, fix the bug. do not delete the infobox. are you here to collaborate or dictate? i see little evidence of the former. Beatley (talk) 19:01, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
You say "the wikipedia article" as if there is only one. INFOBOXREF requires that the data be present on the English Wikipedia article, but the data could well have been imported to Wikidata from a different language where referencing standards are laxer. The ability for Wikidata to combine information from multiple languages is not a bug, it's a feature. The bug is when editors like you start assuming that it's safe to blindly import that data without manually checking whether it meets our local standards (and with no control on whether later changes at Wikidata will cause it to stop meeting our standards). —David Eppstein (talk) 19:14, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
if pigs had wings they wouldn't type on a wiki. do you have any diffs or are you making stuff up to justify your anti-infobox hysteria? in fact, the infoboxes from foreign are better - these cases are english articles that have not been imported fully in wikidata, hence the "empty" nonsense. the fact remains you are not modifying the infobox to reflect whatever "sourced" information you choose, you are mass reverting / deleting. the bug is not importing "false" information. the date in wikidata is right, the bug misreports it. sofixit. Beatley (talk) 19:19, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
Removing the imported data fixes the problem. Wikipedia (whether English or another language) is not a reliable source. Nikkimaria (talk) 19:46, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
that is fine, i can fix it right back. i am following the guideline. why don't you? Beatley (talk) 19:48, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
You're not following the guideline, though. INFOBOXREF states that references are not needed in the infobox IF the content appears and is cited elsewhere in the article; it further states that if the information does not appear in the article body, either it should be added and cited there, or it should be cited in the infobox. This is especially important for biographies of living people. Further, your edits continue to show a lack of due care and attention - for example, until just now you were claiming that Millicent Bryant died at "geographic location". If you'd like to add these templates, slow down and do it properly, and be prepared to add sources where they're lacking. Nikkimaria (talk) 20:21, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

Information icon Please do not add unreferenced or poorly referenced information, especially if controversial, to articles or any other page on Wikipedia about living (or recently deceased) persons, as you did to Claire Mathieu. Thank you. I am surprised and a little shocked to continue seeing you make these bad edits after our discussion. This one again added a birthdate not appearing in the article. Going to Wikidata revealed that it also has 0 sources there. Please stop adding these boxes without checking that in all cases they meet Wikipedia sourcing standards. —David Eppstein (talk) 20:07, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

i am not surprised and shocked to see that you continuing to believe that your hounding will trump a guideline. you need to change the guideline, if you imagine that infoboxes are such a threat to BLP. do not warn me with false statements. i will revert them on sight without reading. Beatley (talk) 20:25, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

@David Eppstein:, @Nikkimaria: If you can supply me with diffs timed after this message that are unquestionably (ie: no witch hunts please) wrong, I will consider blocking Beatley for disruptive editing. Beatley, one of the most important pillars here is Wikipedia:Ignore all rules, which in turn means if you can't justify doing something beyond merely saying "it's a guideline", you can't do it. Please calm down, take a deep breath, and remember there are a million ways to improve articles, none of which have anything to do with wikidata - for example, some more sources on Martin Luther as today is the anniversary of his excommunication. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 18:11, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

  • I've started to go through and revert Beatley's edits. There are bloody hundreds of these things and it's going to take a day or two to complete. I'm going to have to call it a night. CassiantoTalk 23:10, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
User:Ritchie333 see also Wikipedia talk:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Infoboxes. Beatley (talk) 17:39, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
What am I looking for? If you are discussing my own comments in that discussion, I hoped that an arb request would be premature and that it would be a better use of everyone's time discussing whether it's better to have no infobox than a bad infobox (good infoboxes are, of course, fine). Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 17:43, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
i am suggesting the editor was involved in an arbcom case. he then "retired" to avoid sanctions, and has now returned continuing his disruptive practices. the outcome of previous infobox edit wars was to discuss the issue on am article by article or wiki project basis. no such discussion has occurred in the current instance. they mass revert without discussion. they shift their excuses, from "empty" to "sources needed" to now "not improvement" none of these are a policy or guideline reason, they are merely "i don't like it".
here is a diff - the m:Objective Revision Evaluation Service tells us that adding an infobox increases quality. for example: [1] with infobox ores start = .529 [2] without infobox [3] score is .516 [4] so who is disrupting the quality of the wiki ? Beatley (talk) 17:57, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

Recommend you stop adding infoboxes to bio articles & join the discussion concerning infoboxes in bio articles. Such a big push, usually causes a big counter-push. GoodDay (talk) 21:16, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

@Ritchie333: Here is a diff timed from today (well after your message) in which Beatley violates WP:BLP by adding a birthplace neither mentioned nor sourced in the article, imported from Wikidata with no sources there either. I tend to think that it is too much of an isolated event to be blockable by itself, but it does indicate that Beatley hasn't learned not to do that. —David Eppstein (talk) 23:30, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

Lady Rachel Workman MacRobert

Please stop adding a Wikidata infobox to the Lady Rachel Workman MacRobert article. If you actually read the article you will find the date of birth requires further explanation which is not possible with an IB. Your claim that it only needs some polishing to be a GA is ridiculous. SagaciousPhil - Chat 18:35, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

you can comment out the dates if that is your "objection". but there is no there there. do not revert article improvement. go tell the ORES it is ridiculous. Beatley (talk) 18:36, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
It is not an improvement; Beatley, you are also adding it against consensus and without any respect. Please read the actual article. Thank you. SagaciousPhil - Chat 18:42, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
well, you might want to engage on the talk page to establish consensus. Merely reverting is not a consensus process. the edit ; revert ; veto is not a process. Beatley (talk) 18:47, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Please learn to indent comments correctly as otherwise it makes talk pages very difficult to follow; I have adjusted the indents on your comment above to ease reading. The article was created without an infobox - a specific choice on my part - you added it and were reverted. Rather than edit warring, you should be attempting to gain consensus for the addition on the talk page. As has already been pointed out, ORES is not a reliable means of assessing articles. Do you actually have anything sourced to reliable sources to add to the Lady MacRobert article? SagaciousPhil - Chat 19:04, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
why would i try to improve the article if you are camped on it? i'm surprised you have not admin locked it. go for it. Beatley (talk) 19:14, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
I am not an admin; I am simply trying to ensure the article is not degraded. SagaciousPhil - Chat 19:23, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
what is "correct indenting?" talk pages are a vast wasteland, given behavior such as yours. creation without is not a bar from adding. a reversion is not a veto power, rather you need to discuss. ORES is more reliable than you. but by all means discuss it on meta. Beatley (talk) 19:28, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
Oh, how many GAs etc has ORES written? Please provide some evidence as to it's reliability. Thanks. SagaciousPhil - Chat 19:33, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
well, defending the status quo is charming, but it might get you run over. i like the anti-infobox anti-wikidata anti-WMF ideology; it just does not have much future. do not mass revert my edits and we will get along fine. do it and you will have a fight. Beatley (talk) 19:37, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

Beatley, you really do need to read Wikipedia is not about winning now, and go and find some article that everyone you've clashed with has not touched at all. I recommend Shippea Hill railway station. It even comes with its own infobox. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 22:50, 17 January 2017 (UTC)

Stop icon with clock
You have been blocked from editing for a period of 12 hours for Persistent disruptive editing. On some articles, such as Anne Stanback, Shirley Coryndon and Marion Parris Smith, you have made reverts which in themselves have warranted no more than a warning, but in the context of your editing history, they are disruptive. You have a history of edit-warring. You are certainly aware of Wikipedia's policy on edit warring, since you have mentioned it yourself in at least one talk page post. Your edits on the article I have mentioned are part of a whole pattern of editing, which you are fully aware is controversial, and persistently making reverts of the same kind on different articles as part of the same campaign is essentially similar in effect to edit-warring, although spread over several articles, and that is why I have blocked your account. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may request an unblock by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 14:18, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
that was not a personal attack, that was an assessment of his behavior which bears all the traits of the Internet troll. at least one other editor agrees with me. it is bad enough to mass revert without discussion, except for taunting edit summaries, but to then revert new creations is a bit much. there are serious matters in this dispute, quite separate from picayune speech codes. wikidata is coming, and blocking me does not stop it for one second. you can preside over a barrel full of assholes, if you will; it tends to reflect poorly on you. (not a personal attack - unless you flunk this test http://electricpulp.com/guykawasaki/arse/). my edits are useful, and are assessed as improvement by ORES. what objective basis do you have to call them disruptive? i see some say that ORES has been gamed to make infoboxes a plus. do you? should you take it up with the WMF? Content translations

Beatley,

I looked at your most recently translated article, on Johannes Rösing, and I'm a little concerned by the contents. There are some highly unidiomatic phrases in there, such as "With the Bremen citizenship, John III. Rösing had radical democratic ideas, so the the family..." and "...he was offered the Black Eagle Order, to which the hereditary nobility was connected, and also for his children." I see occasional infelicities in some of your other translated articles as well. I've seen a lot worse, but please remember that, per the content translation instructions, it's policy not to add unedited machine translations to Wikipedia; make sure you scan the text to see that all of it makes sense and make the appropriate changes where it doesn't. Thanks, Choess (talk) 04:34, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

Moving drafts back to mainspace

Beatley, please make sure that you must remove the colon on the categories section of the articles before moving them back to mainspace. Thanks! Raymarcbadz (talk) 15:43, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

i was doing that but the bot will take care of it. i.e. [5] one less step. Beatley (talk) 17:57, 15 February 2017 (UTC)
I'm not aware under what rules that bot operates, and I've never come across it before. What I have come across is the Georgia Barnett article that you moved from draft into article space six days ago, and I've just removed the colons so that the categories show again. So for whatever reason, the bot wasn't doing it, and maybe it's safest you keep doing it yourself when moving drafts, at least until you've clarified with the bot's operator what needs doing for the machine to take over. Schwede66 08:16, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
why don't you make your error report with the bot operator? here is the list of 556 articles where it worked. [6]. Beatley (talk) 18:42, 17 February 2017 (UTC)

Why are you moving drafts?

Is there a reason why you're moving drafts into the main namespace? Chris Troutman (talk) 05:32, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

why were these articles moved to drafts ? Beatley (talk) 18:40, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) @Chris troutman and Beatley: They are drafts because of this ANI thread. To summarize that massive thread, they have been moved to Draftspace in order to assess their veracity; they should not be moved back until that has been done. FYI. O Fortuna!...Imperatrix mundi. 18:53, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
thank you for the summary, i did not understand that page. is that what i am doing? Beatley (talk) 18:57, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
To be honest, that's about all I know- Fram's the 'co-ordinator,' as it were. I haven't really got involved in the clear-up. 19:15, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
@Beatley: Unless you think you're funny (and I don't) I do not understand how you can reply "is that what i am doing?". You've moved dozens of drafts against consensus. Not only should you stop, I would appreciate an explanation or we're headed to a drama board. Chris Troutman (talk) 23:14, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
did you read the discussion? the consensus is to verify and move - that is what i am doing. your notability tags are wrong since these are olympic athletes. do not threaten people who are doing work. i have limited time to cleanup this mess, so if you do mot mind, i will not waste time responding further to your general comments. if you have specifics about articles or references then i will consider it. Beatley (talk) 00:33, 7 February 2017 (UTC)
Thanks you for the response. That's what I asked for up front. Chris Troutman (talk) 00:41, 7 February 2017 (UTC)
before interacting with this editor, take this test http://electricpulp.com/guykawasaki/arse/ - if positive stay away. the editor will do the opposite as you advise. Beatley (talk) 22:21, 3 March 2017 (UTC)

SvG pages

Hi,

You've recently been moving a lot of SvG pages back into the mainspace.

Thank you for helping with this project but there's four things that need rectifying in these articles before they go back into the mainspace:

  1. Activate the categories by removing the colon between the "[" and "Category".
  2. Ensure that stub tags go beneath the categories.
  3. Remove unnecessary external links.
  4. Turn said links into references and flesh them out so they're not bare URLs.

I appreciate the time and effort you've put into this project: please continue - it's a large task and it's a shame the original creator didn't do this in the first place. I've rectified issues 1 and 2 in the articles you moved back today, please can you bear this in mind when moving SvG articles in future?

Regards,

DrStrauss talk 22:52, 24 February 2017 (UTC)

  1. the bot will handle that.
  2. that is not in the MOS, but ok
  3. i am adding external links that reference the article subject
  4. that is an nice to have, which we can return to after the deadline is over. reflinks script works or https://tools.wmflabs.org/refill/ Beatley (talk) 17:07, 25 February 2017 (UTC)
  1. Okay but it's be helpful.
  2. Wa wa.
  3. Getty Images external links aren't necessary.
  4. I've been doing that but a bit of WP:SOFIXIT would be welcome!DrStrauss talk 21:28, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
  1. the bot seems to be working fine. this is a dilution of effort.
  2. ok
  3. - i hate Getty more than you, but the fact there is a copyrighted image is useful and encyclopedic.
  4. - i'm here to save articles, not to fix them, if people would stop mass deleting articles, then i could go back to fixing articles. Beatley (talk) 21:41, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
If you're not prepared to fix articles unsuitable for the mainspace, then leave them in the draft space! DrStrauss talk 21:53, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
why don't you show me how? perfection or copyedit issues are not a criteria for deletion. sea-lioning people's talk pages is a poor way to "motivate" them to edit as you want them to. Beatley (talk) 22:01, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
Sure, look at 1 and 2 on Zhang Cong. Any other questions? DrStrauss talk 22:11, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
...and another three. Nobody's proposing deletion: just moving to the draft space per the project established at ANI and headed by Fram.DrStrauss talk 22:17, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
...and some more! Have I made my point? It doesn't take a lot of time to make such articles mainspace-suitable and considering that these fixes are part of the requirements for the SvG project it'd make sense to follow them. Thanks, DrStrauss talk 22:28, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

Merger discussion for Patricia Daničić

An article that you have been involved in editing—Patricia Daničić—has been proposed for merging with another article. If you are interested, please follow the (Discuss) link at the top of the article to participate in the merger discussion. Thank you. Osplace 01:47, 30 September 2017 (UTC)

The article Nouran Elmagghauri has been proposed for deletion. The proposed deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
