Welcome to Bearly541's Talk Page!

I love seeing that little orange bar that says "You have new messages."

I do ask that you follow some guidelines when leaving me a message:

1. Please be civil.

2. Please sign your messages by typing ~~~~ or by using the automated signature button (the one to the right of "Sign Your Name").

If I feel that a response is needed, I will do my best to reply within 24 hours.

Please understand if I do not respond immediately. Also please be understanding if I do not answer your message in the order that it was received.

I will ordinarily answer on your talk page, unless requested to do otherwise. Thank you!

—--- Bearly541

Special thanks to Randfan and Kyoko for providing these guidelines for me as a template!
And, special thanks to Kyoko for providing me with the status bar on my userpage!

Not coming back?

ok, well, you'd be welcome to come back (as far as I'm concerned) and if you ever do decide to come back and want any advice or help, I'd be glad to do what I can. Good luck and best wishes. Brian 03:50, 15 August 2006 (UTC)btball

Re: Vandalism

First, I belong into one of the NPHC groups, so all of them are not "Social," but "Service." Second, if you looked at the history of "Links, Incorporated," you should have seen that I made the page. Thank you for creating more work for me to do. Bearly541 04:03, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

It was [this] edit where I suggested something may have gone wrong. I see you've corrected it now. --MichaelMaggs 06:38, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Alpha Phi Alpha

Thanks for your efforts in reverting the vandalism for this page. I requested the protction to stope the AOL sockpuppet user, that's why he immediately created the user id NinjaNubian. If you need help with any pages you're editing, please let me know. Ccson 13:23, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

NinjaNubian and his aliases are following my edits and whenever I update an article, this swiftly becomes his new project, and he reverts whatever I have added. He saw I made an edit to the Howard University page and within minutes he reverted, he saw I update the AKA page and within minutes he was providing text. I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. (smile) Ccson 02:54, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

The Phi Beta Sigms pages needs some work, so perhaps I'll go make a simple edit to get his attention. Ccson 02:59, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Skip Mason

I'm wondering what makes the contributions of Skip Mason any different from a personal website, opinion article or editorial..

Reading this, I wonder if it really is less objective and more subjective

"As a historian who recognizes that laying a foundation for any period of history, I find their omission inexcusable and without merit. Permit me to share some a few statements (and of course my personal commentary in between) from their books: "

http://www.skipmason.com/hm/hm08.htm

on some of his website pages he states "DISCLAIMER: This page is not affiliated with the National Organization. I am not the Historian of the fraternity, just a brother who is and has always been thirsty for more knowledge on this organization. The information provided has been thoroughly researched and documented and is brought to you with all the fraternal love and spirit I possess. Sources are available upon request. What I did to the page wasn't vandalism. I was correcting a mistake. I've been a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi since spring 2005 so i think i know my founders' names. His name isn't Henry Turner Asher, it's Henry Taliaferro Asher. Please correct it. -- 03:11, 5 September 2006 Boshikoya4

Vandalism

Please stop. This is your last warning! If you continue to vandalize pages, as you did to Alpha Phi Alpha, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. — —Preceding unsigned comment added by NinjaNubian (talkcontribs) 07:05, 11 September 2006 NinjaNubian 07:19, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Close to RfC

This whole edit war on Alpha Phi Alpha is very nasty, with uncivil comments going both ways. I am very close to opening a RfC on all three of you. Errabee 16:06, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

    • William, how can you block CCSon, if he created the Alpha Phi Alpha page? In addition, why are you going to block me if I am trying to PREVENT a person is clearly vandalizing pages, harrassing users, AND changing information (on a FEATURED article)? Bearly541 02:56, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Bearly541 is the only individual making personal attacks. CCson simply edit wars. NinjaNubian 16:12, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing. However, unconstructive edits are considered vandalism, and if you continue in this manner you may be blocked from editing without further warning. Please stop, and consider improving rather than damaging the work of others. Thank you. 68.175.26.54 00:39, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Ccson

I never blocked him. I honestly have no idea what you are talking about. alphaChimp(talk) 02:54, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

As I am no sysop, I do not have the powers to block anyone. I am absolutely not involved, other than that I noticed both NinjaNubian and Ccson violated WP:3RR, which I then reported. I believe NinjaNubian was blocked by alphaChimp for 12 hours, and Ccson was given a warning bu William Connolly. Errabee 03:17, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
And as I reported on WP:AN/3RR: Perhaps if you wouldn't let your emotions interfere with your reading, you would notice that I never said you reverted NN's user page. I simply noticed NN made 6 (more or less identical) changes to Alpha Phi Alpha; Ccson more or less reverted four of those, and you reverted the other two. Errabee 03:22, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

There is no mix-up, I just followed the procedure for reporting 3RR violations. Perhaps you don't understand the template being used on WP:AN/3RR? It says the following:

3 revert rule violation on
Alpha_Phi_Alpha (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views). NinjaNubian (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)

This means the article the 3RR violation occurred on is Alpha Phi Alpha, and the person who made the 3RR violation is NN. It does not mean that NN's user page was reverted. As I tried to say earlier, you seem to let your emotions interfere with your judgement. Try to cool down a bit. Errabee 03:48, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

AIV IP

Are you sure that he is still using the same IP? I see its last contribution as being at 0:39 UTC, about 3 hours ago. Academic Challenger 03:42, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Alpha Phi Alpha RFC

I have created a RFC on the talk page for Alpha Phi Alpha. Can you please visit and provide your feedback. The discussion is whetheer Alpha Men were pioneers in the Civil Rights Movement. Ccson 16:58, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

  • Ccson, I am not quite sure, because Martin Luther King was an Alpha, Rev. Jesse Jackson is an Omega, and Ralph Alberthy was a Kappa. I do not think that Malcolm X belonged to a fraternity -- he was a member of the Nation of Islam. Thurgood Marshall (first black U.S. Supreme Court judge, Brown v. Board of Education (1954) lawyer) was an Alpha. I am not too sure about W.E.B. DuBois...I think he was an Alpha. If you count women, both Rosa Parks and Coretta Scott King were honorary AKAs. Dorothy Height was a past YMCA president, Delta Sigma Theta president, Barbara Jordan (Delta) was the first black Congressman from the South as well as Shirley Chisolm (Delta), the first black Congresswoman. Was Medgar Evers a part of an NPHC organization? So, I guess if you are counting, there is at least a two to one to one ratio in favor of Alpha. Bearly541 03:01, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
The dispute is not our personal opinion or personal knowledge of something; it's whether one can point to reputable sources that back up the statement. The administrators won't be employing their personal opinion, because many may not have the knowledge on every topic up for RFC. They look at the article and the sources and see decide if the source is reputable, whehter would have done the necessary research before putting their name and reputation on the line.
Pioneer is not a word like "Valedictorian", where there can only be one. Here is the defintion for pioneer. The sentence is not attempting to say that Alpha men were the only ones, just that some were pioneers. There are others who were also pioneers, all of the list you named. Jesse Jackson, Andrew Young, Hosea Williams, and Ralph Abernathy were "lieutenants" under King, and they only came into the spotlight after Kings death. Also, Dubois was an honorary Alpha.
I don't want to persuade you, just look at the evidence and make a Neutral Point of View, (and that means not even considering your own POV). Thanks for all your support in the past. Ccson 03:46, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

pioneer http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=pioneer

a person who is among those who first enter or settle a region, thus opening it for occupation and development by others.

Vernon Johns is the father of the american civil rights movement, startig it in the 1920's. it ended in 63. Mykungfu 08:15, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

NinjaNubian RfC

The RfC for NinjaNubian was removed until we are finished writing it. The page Wikipedia:Requests for comment/NinjaNubian still exists, and can be worked on so the case can be presented. Errabee 22:41, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

take your time.. 64.131.205.160 02:56, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

You should read the Wikipedia:Featured article candidates page which provides detail info on what is required. There are links to show what the article must entail regarding style, prose, etc. The article I used as a model was History of Michigan State University. I also reviewed other Featured Articles that were in the same category on how to organize the page and what content to provide. Remember, you are not writing a Public Relations brochure for potential members, you are telling the story of The LInks and the copyedit must be at an encyclopedic level, neutral, and you must provide sources. The reviewers are very good and helpful, but they can be merciless, but try not to take it personally. Avoid words that tug at your heart like "the dear sisters of", "affectionately", "beloved", this are PR words, not neutral. As you will see on the FA Candidates page, they suggest a peer review before requesting a FA Candidate review. I'll do anything I can to help. Ccson 04:13, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Also, the Feauted artcle candidates pages contains the articles that are currently up for FA status. You should review some of the articles that interest you, and then read some of the comments from the reviewers, so you'll know what to expect, what not to do, and what you should be doing. You can also provide comments for the articls yourself. Ccson 04:20, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Everything in your intro section must be in the main body of the article. I see you added something regarding commemorative medals in the intro, but I didn't see it in the body. The references should also be noted in the body of the article, not the intro. Ccson 02:58, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

I Got A Feeling

In checking with Ccson , Bearly541 , and KaneKing93 talk pages over the weekend, We are having a problem with Mykungfu, formerly NinjaNubian vandalizing both Alpha Phi Alpha and Kappa Alpha Psi web pages. KaneKing93 and Bearly541 said they are members of Kappa Alpha Psi and Ccson already confirmed membership with Alpha Phi Alpha. Mykungfu is causing this edit war trying to "perpetrate" both fraternities. I suggest we need to block him out of vandalizing these articles and any other article of NPHC organizations. Erayman64

cleared. -Robotam 19:16, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Sockpuppetry etc.

I've removed the sockpuppet template (and the user comment, which belongs on Talk anyway) from your user page. All of User:Mykungfu's "cases" have been closed without any action taken, so the template can be removed. Also, I can not protect your user page for you. You'll have to get an admin to do that. | Mr. Darcy talk 14:10, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Your userpage has been protected. Syrthiss 20:03, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
A Barnstar!
Order of the Flaming Hellpot

I, Robotam, award Bearly541 the Order of the Flaming Hellpot for being the victim of an egregious and malicious vandal, whom he will soon send tumbling into the pits of the abyss.

BTW - not that this is a surprise, but the CheckUser came back definitively negative on you and Ccson (ie unlike Mykungfu's, you are definitely not Ccson). Feel free to revert any blather from MKF on sight regarding this issue. Syrthiss 11:50, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Personal attacks

Bearly, I understand your frustration with Mykungfu and all the problems on the various fraternity/sorority pages, but I have to ask you to refrain from making comments like this one: [1] First of all, it's a personal attack, and doesn't belong on Wikipedia. Second, it's immaterial to the topic of that discussion: The behavior of an article's editors or creator is not a criterion for that article's deletion. If you don't like how Mykungfu is acting, I can sympathize, but resorting to personal attacks will not solve the problem at all. | Mr. Darcy talk 19:30, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

You left this note on my talk page: However, in future edits, TAKE THE DISPUTE to the discussion page before making unwarranted edits. If not, it is highly likely that administrative action will be taken. I don't want for another user to destroy or harm my hard edits (which I researched) or other users' edits (like Ccson) without warrant like you have and without discussing why making the changes first on the discussion page. Exactly what the hell are you talking about? I haven't made any edits to those pages other than reverting the vandalism. | Mr. Darcy talk 14:03, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
Ah, that makes sense. But the way you wrote it, it sounded like it was directed at me. I couldn't figure out how you'd confused me and our vandal friend. | Mr. Darcy talk 00:30, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
I don't disagree with that :) | Mr. Darcy talk 00:42, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

I know that its a toss up between wanting to warn other users unfamiliar with the situation with Mykungfu and trying not to bug innocent users, but I noticed that you had added a sock notice to at least one of the aol ip talk pages. I've been in and out (I'm actually still out ;) ), but I wanted to ask you to revert your edits to them on whichever ones you placed them on. We have a ton of AOL users who don't log in, and to most of them that notice might be confusing.

I'm fine with you documenting it somewhere (I have his 3RR spamming documented on one of my subpages), but this way doesn't seem to me to be the best.

What do you think? Syrthiss 17:30, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Hi, I notice that you've placed a sock notice on virtually every AOL talk that I have watchlisted (all of them, every person using AOL period, they're all on my watchlist), wouldn't it be easier just to make a note that the vandal is using AOL and move on?--AOL account 11:30, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
    • Sorry, but the vandal who uses the AOL accounts is malicious. And, it is best to tag which IPs he uses in order to forewarn administrators of his activity. Bearly541 03:12, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Colored fonts?

Is this what you want? You need to do this: <font color=green>User:Bearly541</span> which produces this: Bearly541 Just don't use red, blue, purple, etc. (colors that are usually used for hyperlinks). You can use the hex code for a color, or the name if you know it. If that's not what you were asking, let me know! | Mr. Darcy talk 04:13, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Montana...

Not a problem. Um... well I've never been to Montana so I don't think that I would be a good person to write that. I believe there's only one editor for Montana highways... once we get more local expertise the article would probably come... --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 04:20, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

AKA Userbox

are you familiar with the AKA user box. I made this box and a similar box for the Kappas. Use it on your user page is you wish. Ccson 18:40, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Also, I changed the colors on "Bearly541", located on your user page, to the AKA sorority colors Salmon Pink and Apple Green. I hope you don't mind, and please change back to the original colors if you don't like. Ccson 18:47, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Re: Icons

Most of the icons have come from commons:Category:Nuvola icons and related areas -- it's the best-hidden treasure trove of useful icons on the project, I think. :) If you're asking more about the images-as-links bit, that's thanks to User:Luna Santin/Imagelink, which I adapted from something else I saw before becoming aware of templates like click. I do have some mediocre programming skills, just enough to put these sorts of things together with a few hours of effort. :) Hopefully one of those answered your questions. Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Bearly541, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact our administrator general Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

you're welcome

Hi there, you're welcome. You're right that Wikipedia can be relaxing too. I'm relaxing right now doing minor things like making wikilinks (for example: MP3 player->MP3 player), and fixing redirects (for example: MP3 player normally redirects you to digital audio player, so... MP3 player makes a link that looks like MP3 player but takes you directly to the target article). I hope this explains how to do this in the future. I hope you enjoy Wikipedia! --Kyoko 00:06, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Linkslogo.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Linkslogo.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 01:32, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

I have rechecked and the image up for deletion is Image:Linkslogo.gif and the image used on the page you referenced is Image:Links logo.gif. The non-spaced file name is being deleted, and the spaced file name is not as it is in use. Any other questions, please let me know.--Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 13:47, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Wow, creepy. That was written at 00:00 on 05 11 06! Very funny. How often does that happen? — Editor at Large(speak) 00:01, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
What are you currently using for your signature? It should happen automatically when you sign your posts with ~~~~. If you want a formatted signature when you use the four tildes, you have to put the format in the signature section under "my preferences" at the top of the screen. It's so much easier signing your posts that way. But on a side note, if you are using a template you can use (for example) ~~~~~, which gives meEditor at Large(speak)11:30, 5 November 2006 (UTC). The template for my signature with the timestamp.
In wiki-markup three tildes ~~~ gives you just the signature, four the signature and the timestamp, and five just the timestamp. Example for me:
  • ~~~
  • ~~~~
  • ~~~~~
Gives
For your signature, copy
---- <b><span style="color:#FF9999;">Bearly541</span> <small style="color:#A6F591;">talk</small>
click on "my preferences" at the top of the screen, and paste it in the box that says "signature". then check the little box that says "raw signature". Save it, and when you sign your posts with ~~~~ your signature should appear automatically with the timestamp.
Admittedly, I don't know if I even answered your question / solved your problem, but I hope something helped, at least! — Editor at Large(speak) 11:30, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

November Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Re: Two questions

One: No, unfortunately I've not made it to Egypt yet. I'm hoping to go when I finish school. I'm actually more interested in the lesser-known tombs of the Valley of the Kings, and places such as Amarna and Abydos than the pyramids: amazing, yes, but too hyped up and tourist-ized for my liking.

Two: Userboxes don't need to be formally approved, but now have to be made in userspace (any made outside of userspace are now deleted -- trust me, I know. Six of mine were deleted without warning!). There's no reason why it shouldn't be approved as long as you follow the guidelines: no political anything, nothing that attacks anyone or any race/society, etc...

Some basic rules:

  1. No politics
  2. No attacks
  3. No addition of useless categories
  4. Follow naming rules
    1. All boxes must start with "user ... "
    2. Lowercase is suggested
  5. Make it readable (black background and brown text don't show up well)

My suggested steps:

  1. do extensive searches to make sure it isn't already created
    1. look through the Userbox Category pages
    2. Search on Wikipedia
    3. And Google
  2. title the page something like User:Bearly541/user example
  3. copy the construction code you wish to use and paste it in your page
  4. edit colours, text, etc. to your liking
    1. ALWAYS PREVIEW, never assume it's right. There's nothing more annoying than 100 edits that change one little apostrophe and one number...
  5. save
  6. ask someone for their opinion on whether or not it should be added to the main lists of userboxes
  7. Decide where the most logical and useful categories for it to be located are

If you'd like I'll look at them for you, once you've finished, and let you know if they should be advertised on the main Userboxes pages. Good luck! — Editor at Large(speak) 11:33, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Audacity of Hope Summary

I run WikiSummaries.org a wiki of book summaries that is released under the GNU FDL (the same license as Wikipedia.) The WikiSummaries entry for The Audacity of Hope was just completed and, since the licenses of the two websites are compatible for information exchange, I thought I'd kick-start the Wikipedia article with the one from WikiSummaries. I'm curious to see how the two articles grow on the different sites (I'm also curious how this will happen on Citizendium!) Geneffects 15:14, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

About Editor at Large

Hello. I am an acquaintance of Editor at Large, and a fellow Esperanzian, and I'm trying to figure out what's happened. You've left a message at her talk page that really insinuates something bad went down, and I'd like to know what. Thanks. DoomsDay349 04:25, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

I still don't quite understand. Some form of abuse took place? At her, or her child perhaps? DoomsDay349 04:29, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know, it has already been reverted. I made an honest mistake I thought it was an IP vandal. Do you know what happened to here. Please let me know. I am very concerned.-- Seadog 00:34, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

thank you

Thank you for your support...
Thank you ever so much, Bearly541, for your kind words and understanding in my time of need. I deeply appreciate your support, and I hope to be there for you, should you ever need help. — Kyoko

Hello, Bearly541, and thank you for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. It's touching to know that Wikipedia has a community who really cares, something that E@L is learning as well.

Yes, I do speak French quite well, though when I was growing up, more English than French was used in my home. You're probably thinking of:

Parlez-vous français? (Do you speak French?)
Je parle français. (I speak French/I do speak French/I can speak French.)

As for your signature, if you want to make your signature work the same way as mine, you have to make a subpage called User:Bearly541/Esperanza. If you don't yet have the subpage, just click on the link and open it in another tab or window.

Once you are in that Esperanza subpage, edit it by pasting the following code:

After doing that, save the subpage and go to "my preferences". Paste the following code inside the "Signature" box:

<b><span style="font-family:trebuchet ms"><span style="color:#FF9999;">B</span><span style="color:#008000;"><b>e</b></span><span style="color:#FF9999;">arly451 </span><small><b><span style="color:#A6F591;">talk</span></b></small></span>

Hmm, I'm still not seeing my mistake. Somewhere I think there's an unclosed tag, but I just don't see it. In my defence, it's just after 6 AM here. E@L is better at this than me.

Anyway, after all these steps, make sure that the "Raw signature" box is ticked.

I hope this helps, and thanks once again.--Kyoko 14:03, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm glad that I could be of some help in formatting your signature. Again, E@L is really the one you should talk to with questions like this. Speaking of which, I am overjoyed that she seems to be better. --Kyoko 23:15, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

E@L support barnstar

Though what you did is not so random, I, on behalf of E@L, award you this barnstar for your support. Randfan 18:33, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

I like the concept. All we need is her acceptance. What's the font? Papyrus? Randfan 21:19, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Just thought of something. Can we somehow incorporate support for Kyoko in it? Or make a barnstar for her, too? Oh, well! Hope she feels better soon, also. Randfan 21:54, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Okay about the WikiEsthing (just noticed it). Randfan 22:49, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Thank you so much!

Thank you so much for your support!

I can't say thank you enough for the support that you have shown me over the past few days. It means the world to me, and has certainly helped me along the road to recovery! I will cherish forever the kind messages and "gifts" that were sent to me and think of them whenever times are rough.

I didn't realise that my absence would cause so much concern, and I apologise if I caused anyone undue stress. I feel that I owe you an explanation, at least! for what happened, to return in some small way the kindness you showed to me. I will post it here as soon as possible, if you would like to know the reason for my brief departure and the links on my userpage.

Thank you for your message, Bearly! It was a he, and if it was up to me he certainly would be in jail. Unfortunately life doesn't always work that way!

At any rate, I appreciate your concern and would like to thank you for supporting me. It means a lot :-)

Just saw your comment about me on E@L discussion page and am thanking you for it. I'm busy right now so don't feel bad if I don't respond, I'll be editing sporadically today. Randfan 00:16, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Dalbury's RfA

My RfA passed with a tally of 71/1/0. Thank you very much for your support. I hope that my performance as an admin will not disappoint you. Please let me know if you see me doing anything inappropriate. -- Donald Albury 03:56, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Thank you!

Thank you for your wellwishing on my first edit day :)

Also, if you need any advice on your user page, feel free to ask. The coding on my userpage is an unruly tangle of templates, so of which are deprecated, but it still looks good. I actually based it off of someone else's long ago, though I've made so many alterations of my own that the only recognizable feature is some deprecated code. —Cuiviénen 01:12, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

I don't have any software like that, all I did was just go to the article and paste one of the pictures on the page. Also if you didn't know Esperanza is up for deletion. On another note thank you for cheering up Editor at Large.--Seadog 04:29, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

about Pikachu

Hi there, unfortunately my knowledge of the Japanese language is very limited, and I read it better than I speak it. According to the article about Pikachu, the name is made up of two examples of onomatopeia or sound effects. One of them, "pika", is apparently how people in Japan describe the sound of a spark, much as we might say Bzz or Sizzle. The other part, "chu", is how the Japanese describe the squeak of a mouse. I hope this helps. --Kyoko 20:55, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Article about Wikipedia Users

Hello,

I am a freelance writer working on an article about Wikipedia users and all the little "behind the scenes" goings on that most casual readers of the site never know about. As such, I would like to talk to you about your experience "being adopted" on Wikipedia. If you are interested in participating, please contact me at brianwrites@gmail.com. ThanksFFFearlesss 19:28, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

I noted you posted him up at AIV. If this is a bot, it's the crappiest bot ever. Looks like to me he's hunting people involved in the process. Maybe it's a bot pulling usernames from the Esperanza Showdown of Ultimate Destiny discussion? --ElaragirlTalk|Count 21:57, 17 November 2006 (UTC) This user is too stupid to remember to sign her own name
I agree with the assessment that it is not a bot. Your vandalism warning seems to have worked though. Agathoclea 22:01, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Yes - that would be the same as C&P. The contribution list shows though, that he has targeted people depending the programmes they are involved in (and slightly adjusted the text accourdingly), which suggests human action not bot action. The spamming is another issue and should be addressed as such. Agathoclea 22:18, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Okay seriously, this isn't intended to be some kind of attack on Wikipedia or its users. I'm legitimately trying to write an article about this place and the people who use it. And the way I'm finding people is by painstakingly posting individual messages on people's talk pages based on the types of projects they're involved in. If anybody knows a better way fro me to get in touch with you people, by all means, let me know. Some people actually HAVE responded the email address I posted, expressing interest. FFFearlesss 22:16, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

If this is a legit article, please ask JimboWales for permission first. Otherwise, please read this: Wikipedia:Etiquette Bearly541 22:21, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

I see nothing in the ettiquette pages or the press pages that indicates I have to get PERMISSION from the owner of the company to do an article. That's not really how journalism works. If you don't want to participate, just ignore the message. I'm not repeatedly bugging the same people. I leave a message and move on. If they aren't interested, they ignore the message. If they ARE interested, they do and have responded. FFFearlesss 22:33, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Hey Bearly, remember, the first part of Wikipedia:Etiquette is to assume good faith. Asking people to participate in an article that's being written may be a bit unorthodox, from the explanations, it seems to be being done in good faith. -- Natalya 13:20, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Many unanswered questions...

I am so very sorry for not getting back to you on these. I'm not being a very good adopter, am I?

  1. Well, userbox first: You can add it to Wikipedia:Userboxes/Computing#Websites and services, under the existing Ebay userbox. I think that is probably the best place for it.
  2. As for the IRC, see the IRC tutorial for help. If you have any fiddly problems feel free to ask me :-)
  3. New barnstars can be posted on the Wikipedia:Barnstar and award proposals page.
  4. By annotating your barnstars do you mean making them smaller? If so, all you have to do is add the picture and the text to a new table that is formatted how you would like. If you let me know exactly what you were hoping for I will help you out some more :-)

I hope this helped! If I missed anything or you have anything more to ask, don't hesitate to drop by... I'll do by best to answer you a bit faster this time! — Editor at Large(speak) 03:25, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

about the colour change

Hi there, I decided to change my page just a little because November is Pulmonary hypertension awareness month, and I have the disease, and that particular shade of purple is the color of its awareness wristband, and I've always liked purple anyway. I also wanted to change things up a bit. If you had boldfaced the word "color" in order to point out the American spelling, keep in mind that I'm Canadian and I'm used to the other spelling. I can of course switch usage if needed, but it takes a little extra thought.--Kyoko 14:08, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Indeed, we have a turkey day in Canada, but it's in the first week of October, so I ate it already, but if you don't mind you can give me another turkey :P Happy day of fat birds! Fredil 02:24, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Hehe. Try not to use images in signatures per WP:SIG; I got in a hint of trouble for that and for using a signature template. Get on with the cooking, it'll run away on you! Fredil 02:34, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
As Fredil said, we have a Thanksgiving Day in Canada too (in French it's called "le jour de l'Action de Grâces"), but it just wasn't a big deal in my family, compared to what I see here. --Kyoko 12:17, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

why I am on editor review

Hi there, I put myself on editor review because at the time, I wasn't sure if if I was doing a good job on Wikipedia, and I also wanted to know if there are any areas in which I could improve my participation here. And no, I don't want to be an administrator, because I think it would be too stressful. As for the flu thing, I'm going to call my doctor on Monday if I feel worse. I'm mostly just annoyed that feeling sick is making me miss all the great sales! --Kyoko 17:11, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

The Graphic Designer's Barnstar
I saw your work with the E@L barnstar and I must say, I'm impressed. Not by the work (though that was good, also), but your compassion for other users. And for that reason, I, GLYGLY, give you, Bearly541, this The Graphic Designer's Barnstar. Carry it well. GLYGLY 21:11, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Correction to page

Dear Bearly541, I received your response to the correction I made to the Alpha Kappa Alpha page. I did not mean to show you or your organization any disrespect. Please forgive me if it seemed that way. I made the change because I felt that as a credible source (I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta) it would be okay for me to make the correction. Only nine of my 22 founders were once members of Alpha Kappa Alpha, the other 13 members were not affilitated with any greek organization at that time. I checked the source of the incorrect information that was posted and he was misinformed. I also made a change to the Delta Sigma Theta page were his source was used. Again, I apologize for anything that seemed less than kind. Two of my best friends are members of Alpha Kappa Alpha and I would never want to show them anything but love and kindness.
