Writing about your own company

[edit]

Hi! Did you know it's considered bad form to create/edit pages on subjects you are very close to, paid by, etc? The idea is that articles are written primarily by 3rd party observers. If your topic is notable (that is, it's had comments made about it by parties other than the originator), then someone (not too associated with the original creator) can create the article with information from these references. So at the very least, you need to super careful to be neutral, include sections of criticism if needed, make sure you do not delete negative information, as so on. Berkeley Design Automation

This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia, because it has been identified as an account used for promotion of a company or group, with a username that implies that this has been done by that company or group. See Wikipedia:Business' FAQ and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. This kind of activity is considered spamming and is forbidden by Wikipedia policies. In addition, the use of a username like yours violates our username policy.

Hi Hu12, This is mickt77. The page for Berkeley Design Automation has been up with no additional changes for multiple years. The intent is not to SPAM or to promote the company, rather to have a description of the company available in Wikipedia on par with all the other companies in the Electronic Dessign Automation industry. I am an employee of the company and I would have no problem changing the user from BDA webmaster to my personal username mickt77. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mickt77 (talkcontribs) 18:05, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hu12, Any feedback on my comment? Thanks - mickt77 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.9.124.182 (talk) 14:52, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It fails Wikipedias incusion criteria, and continuing to creat articles about your own company is not allowed. Additionally all the contributions to wikipedia under the following accounts consist entirely of promoting Berkeley Design Automation, inc.;

A few established Wikipedia policies;
Wikipedia owes much of its success to its openness. However, that very openness sometimes attracts people who seek to exploit the site. This is just such a case wich has been ongoing since 2008. Self promotion is never appropriate, particularly when it there is a conflict of interest as it violates Neutrality (a fundamental principle by which Wikipedia operates).--Hu12 (talk) 15:59, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am not trying to create additional articles about the company or advertise. This is an entry with information about the fact that the company exists. See this list of all the other companies in the same industry. Why are they allowed to have a page in Wikiepedia and you are singling out Berkeley Design Automation? http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/List_of_EDA_companies — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mickt77 (talkcontribs) 20:10, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Apparantly you failed to read the note at the top of the edit page before adding your company[1]. List of EDA companies has an established basis for inclusion. Any company listed in this article must pass Wikipedias notability guidelines and already have an article on Wikipedia. The purpose of "List of EDA companies" is internal navigation of Wikipedia not for the promotion of Berkeley Design Automation. --Hu12 (talk) 12:30, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hu12, I understand that. I originally created a simple descriptive article for the company that passed the guidelines sometime around 2008. I worked with an administrator at the time to meet the guidelines. Once that article was live I the added it to the list of EDA companies. Please let me know what I need to do to get back to that state. Thanks. This was mickt77...— Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.9.124.182 (talkcontribs) 17:42, 21 December 2012

I've checked the logs and deleted articles and what you said doesn't seem to be the case. Not only did you not work an administrator, no administrator was ever involved, nor has any administrator even edited the article. It also never met the guidelines, nor has it ever. It wasn't deleted sooner simply because it was overlooked by administrators (whom you claim to have worked with). It is clear that your Multiple account(s) only exist for the sole or primary purpose of promoting Berkeley Design Automation in apparent violation of Sockpuppetry, Conflict of interest and anti-spam guidelines. --Hu12 (talk) 18:57, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hu12, I originally created the article with the username BDAwebmaster. I work at the company. Then I also used a personal account, namely mickt77. I am the same person. That is it. Please tell me what is the proper way to create an article to simply state that a company exists without any intent of promoting it or conflict of interest. Should a third party, completely independent from the company create it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.9.124.182 (talk) 01:04, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hu12, Please let me know if this is an acceptable path to resolve this situation. If a regular contributor to Wikepedia that is completely independent from the company creates a simple article describing that this company exists, Would this be acceptable to the guidelines? Thanks mickt77 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mickt77 (talkcontribs) 18:26, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I used to work in the field of Electronic Design Automation, and have never worked for BDA. However, it is well known within the industry, and plenty notable enough to have a page. Try in google, for example, '"berkeley design automation" site:eetimes.com' to see many references in the press. I'd be happy to review/edit the article to a neutral state, if that would be helpful. LouScheffer (talk) 23:45, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi LouScheffer, That would work for me. Thanks for offering. mickt77 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mickt77 (talkcontribs) 16:58, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hu12, Are you going to reply to LouScheffer's offer or should I contact wikwpwdia help? Thanks mickt77 Mickt77 (talk) 18:52, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
