Welcome to Wikipedia and tips

[edit]

Hi Bcsimon15, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Colman2000, and just like you, I am a new editor on here as well. Here are some tips I have for you to help you become a better editor on here.

If you have any questions, you can go to the help desk or the Teahouse, and other experienced editors will give you some excellent input! If you have any questions about any articles regarding the United States, please feel free to leave a message on my talk page, and I will help you the best I can.

If you want to add userboxes to your userpage, go to Wikipedia:Userboxes and look at all of the choices there are to choose from. You can add userboxes saying what you are good at, and you can join WikiProjects by adding your username to its list of participants, then you can add that to your user page. You can also go to other users' user pages, as well as mine, and get ideas of what you want to add to your user page. The guidelines say you can add any personal information about yourself if desired.

If you want to ping another user that leaves a message on your talk page, do not use any styling instructions, just use their username. To do this, write it like this: {{ping|username here}}, and your message will be alerted to them.

Please make sure you read the blocking policy so you will know what to watch out for so you make sure you aren't blocked from editing. You could be blocked from editing for vandalism, adding unsourced material, or leaving personal attacks on a user's talk page. I wouldn't want you to be blocked from editing, so I am just giving you a heads up. I was given a few warnings for adding unsourced material to Wikipedia, but I am asking questions at the Teahouse and the help desk to get input from other editors to reduce my chances of being blocked.

Also, make sure you are polite, say "please" and "thank you," and are respectful towards other editors. Sign messages you write by typing in four tildes, or you can click the four tildes on the bottom of a talk page that says "Sign your posts on talk pages" and they will appear.

Thank you for taking the time to read this message. I hope you enjoy contributing to Wikipedia as much as I do, and I wish you best of luck in your editing! Colman2000 (talk) 18:32, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Colman2000! There is so much to learn. I am using your recommendations to draft my first new article.Bcsimon15 (talk) 00:52, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Bcsimon15: You're welcome! Good luck with your new article, and if you have any questions about any topic regarding the United States, please don't hesitate to leave a message on my talk page. Cheers! Colman2000 (talk) 02:47, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your submission at Articles for creation: Old Nichols Library has been accepted

[edit]
Old Nichols Library, which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.
The article has been assessed as Start-Class, which is recorded on the article's talk page. You may like to take a look at the grading scheme to see how you can improve the article.

You are more than welcome to continue making quality contributions to Wikipedia. If your account is more than four days old and you have made at least 10 edits you can create articles yourself without posting a request. However, you may continue submitting work to Articles for Creation if you prefer.

Thank you for helping improve Wikipedia!
