Speedy deletion of Matthew S. Thomas

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Matthew S. Thomas requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. NickContact/Contribs 01:42, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Matthew S. Thomas

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Matthew S. Thomas, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? NeilN talkcontribs 03:59, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please read WP:BIO as every article has to be about a subject that notable. You must also provide references to reliable sources that prove notability. --NeilN talkcontribs 04:12, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the criteria for athletes

  • Competitors and coaches who have competed in a high-level, fully professional league (i.e. Major League Baseball, National Football League), or a competition of equivalent standing in a non-league sport such as swimming, golf or tennis.
  • Competitors and coaches who have competed at the highest level in amateur sports (who meet the general criteria of secondary sources published about them).

Have any newspaper articles been written about this person? --NeilN talkcontribs 04:16, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, that link is about the team, not the person. Your best bet is to find newspaper articles written about him. --NeilN talkcontribs 04:19, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You need to provide references (links) to those articles. --NeilN talkcontribs 04:21, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm trying to help you make sure your article meets Wikipedia guidelines so it won't be deleted. If you don't want this help, that's fine. --NeilN talkcontribs 04:24, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To answer your question, I usually patrol recent changes to articles, reverting vandalism when necessary, or doing fixups if appropriate. --NeilN talkcontribs 04:30, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anyways, you have five days to find sources to show notability. Hopefully you'll find something before then. --NeilN talkcontribs 04:33, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have a "favourite" page. I just look at any changes on articles that happen to be on my watchlist. --NeilN talkcontribs 04:37, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 04:22, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Talk Pages

[edit]

By the way, please don't remove other people's comments on talk pages as you did here: [1]. I'm assuming it was an accident. --NeilN talkcontribs 04:45, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
