Reference desk

[edit]

You asked about the removal of questions on the reference desk. That has been the subject of considerable debate, but the consensus seems to be "yes", it is okay to remove questions (or answers) which are considered to be inappropriate for that pafe. After that, things descend into a quagmire of what is considered appropriate and what is not. In the case of your specific question, which I removed, it was a personal question about a contributor to the reference desk. I didn't feel it was appropriate there so I removed it. It wasn't really the sort of question anyone at the page - except for the subject of it - could answer. I do apologize for not discussing that removal here on your talk page as soon as I had done so. - Eron Talk 17:31, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No worries, mate. I've asked the girl in person! Barnie X 05:59, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

[edit]

Hello Barnie, and welcome to Wikipedia. I have noticed, in a few of your recent edits, you have taken to referring to Clio the Muse as "Clio the Sloane." While I note the lady herself does not appear to mind, now is probably a good time, since you are new here, to have a read of WP:NPA, specifically "Comment on content, not on the contributor." Our goal is to create a quality encyclopaedia and, irrespective of intent, commenting on the personal circumstance of other Wikipedians is generally discouraged since it doesn't help us further the project. I fully appreciate your intent is benign, but others may not see it that way, which is why we try and keep the discussion focused on the contributions and not the contributors. Best wishes, Rockpocket 03:37, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, mate. I meant no harm. I've been watching the reference desk for a while now before I signed up and have long been impressed by Clio's performance. Calling her a Sloane was just my attempt at humour. I dont think she minds but I will say no more if you think it might be misunderstood. Cheers. Barnie X 10:43, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your Ref Desk question about Aussie independence

[edit]

Sorry, but it reeks of homework, which is a no-no. Oh, and I was feeling grumpy, so sorry for my bad mood and for being grizzly. --Dweller 12:25, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As you seem to have been upset by my comments, I'll repeat my apology. I should know better. I gather it wasn't homework then? --Dweller 17:39, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
