Speedy deletion nomination of User:Barbarawaltersmilne
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on User:Barbarawaltersmilne, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
- It appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free Web hosting service. (See section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion.)
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Help me!

Please help me with... I am trying to create a biography page for my wife who is a famous educator, songwriter, vocalist in the early childhood education field since 1981. Lots of published songs, videos, books, etc. I created one, but seems to violate lots of rules and don't know where to start to create it now. Barbarawaltersmilne (talk) 22:13, 4 April 2023 (UTC)
- I think you have confused creating an article(the preferred term, not "page") with creating an account. I gather you chose your wife's name as your username for this reason; you may want to change your username via Special:GlobalRenameRequest. You edited your user page, which is not article space, but a place for the named user to tell about themselves as a Wikipedia editor or user. Instead you used this space- to be frank- to create a very promotional text about your wife. New accounts cannot directly create articles and must use Articles for Creation to create and submit a draft for review by other editors.
- Wikipedia articles are typically written by independent editors wholly unconnected with the topic, who take note of coverage of a topic in independent reliable sources and choose on their own to write about it. You have what we call a conflict of interest here- as such, using Articles for Creation is a must. You must, however, set aside everything you know about your wife and only write summarizing what independent reliable sources with significant coverage choose to say about your wife, showing how she meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable person or more narrowly a notable musician. Please read Your First Article and use the new user tutorial to learn more about what we do here. 331dot (talk) 22:43, 4 April 2023 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of User:Barbarawaltersmilne
[edit]A tag has been placed on your user page, User:Barbarawaltersmilne, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.
