Redirect blanking

[edit]

I am not sure why you blanked the redirect Parker House to the Robert P. Parker House, you edit summary implied that you believe only one house can be called the Parker House, this is obviously not the case as a search on Parker House will show. Please don't blank a redirect to a legit article. There is no article on Blue Hill's Parker House but there is one on the Frank Lloyd Wright Parker House, which is likely more famous, and would probably be the destination of most searchers on Parker House, because of its architect. The Boston house you speak of doesn't appear to have an article anyway. Regardless, simply because you think the redirect "doesn't go to the right Parker House" doesn't make it so. Thanks for you attempt at contributing, stick around and learn a few things if you would like. IvoShandor 21:29, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ivo, thank you for helping me prove my point about your link. A few counts: First, I was not speaking of "Boston's" Parker House (an hotel) but of the Parker House in Blue Hill, Maine, to which someone - perhaps you? erroneously connected a link to another Parker House in the Chicago area from a Wikipedia list of National Register properties in Hancock County, Maine.

Nobody who clicks on the Blue Hill, Maine Parker House on that list should be directed to an article about the Parker House in Chicago, however interesting, when they might be expecting to read more about the (much older) structure in northern New England. Whether there is an article on the Blue Hill house or not, the Chicago house article is not relevant.

Further, nowhere did I suggest that there is or should be only one Parker House in America or the world, only that the two which were linked in error have nothing to do with one another.

I suggest that your haste and lack of care is not serving the Wikipedia community very well, either in your linking activity or in your responses to the gentle corrections of others when they point out mistakes.

Best regards.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Banjoseth (talkcontribs)

What's above is a canned welcome, sincere nonetheess. Your Parker House article was a great first edit by a newbie. Keep up the good work. A few process comments:

  • please sign anything that you put on a talk page by adding four tildes ~~~~ at the end, as above. This translates into your signature and the date.
  • When you add a new NRHP article, you can add it to the list at Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places#New articles and pictures
  • NRHP articles get an infobox (see your article for an example). You can build this by hand, but the Elkman tool gives you the whole thing, including the category tags, for everything added before last year.
