New Shahmukhi Information
[edit]Hi,
I've just made the images appear properly on the Shahmukhi article. Looks very good! Is it possible to convert it to plain text and Unicode? That way we can format it properly for Wikipedia. If you can do all the Shahmukhi bits, I will add the Gurmukhi in Unicode later. Sukh | ਸੁਖ | Talk 12:35, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
Shahmukhi Conversation
[edit]Hi,
I'd like to talk to you off-Wikipedia about Shahmukhi. Can you please e-mail me with your e-mail address? You can use this link: [1].
Thanks. Sukh | ਸੁਖ | Talk 12:35, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
Hi,
We started a proposal Wikipedia:Wikiethics to state the existing policies coherently and make suggestions on improving the editorial standards in Wiki. I thought you might be interested in contributing to that proposal.
Unfortunately, a pro-porn and pro-offense lobby is trying to make this proposal a failure. They unilaterally started an approval poll although almost no one including me believe that it is time for a vote, simply because the policy is not ready. It is not even written completely.
Editors who thinks that the policy needs to be improved rather than killed by an unfair poll at the beginning of the proposal, started another poll ('Do we really need a poll at this stage?') at the same time. The poll is vandalized for a while but it is stable now. A NO vote on this ('Do we really need a poll now?') poll will strengthen the position of the editors who are willing to improve the ethics policy further.
If you have concerns about the ethics and editorial standards in Wiki, please visit the page Wikipedia:Wikiethics with your suggestions on the policy. We have two subpages: Arguments and Sections. You might want to consider reviewing these pages as well...
Thanks in advance. Resid Gulerdem 21:27, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit]First of all, I would like to convey to you that your message was very rude. You are acting like you are the boss of the Shahmukhi page. You are not. And actually, I do speak Punjabi quite fluently. When I was a kid, my mother had a close friend from Lahore who babysitted me, and I learned to speak the language from her. I didn't include this in my profile because I'm not too fluent with reading and writing, so I can't provide translations, so there is no point in me including that information.
The reason I changed your image is because the Omniglot one is much better. Shahmukhi is actually Nasta'liq with a different name because it is used to write a different language. It isn't written in the style on the Shahmukhi page that you currently have. Check any of the links at the bottom of the Shahukhi page and see if they are written in the style I'm trying to implement or yours. I am reverting your edit. If you have any questions, e-mail Simon Ager at Omniglot (Contact section) and ask which is more accurate. He's an expert. If he says yours is (which I highly doubt), I'll accept that. And if you want Gurmukhi characters underneath, just ask Simon to do that. Thanks. Stallions2010 02:55, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
XAR KUŚ!!! Tuare buth pan chate hai?
- Fine. Once again, you are showing off: "I am the one who told Simon how to transliterate the Shahmukhi on that page, and I know shahmukhi, i speak Panjabi, i am responsible for the Shahmukhi wikipedia, and that is nastaliq. I corrected Simon's page for shahmukhi, and corrected his transliteration of the declaration of human rights." A very stuck-up comment, as if you know everything. I wouldn't be surprised if you were but a child on Wikipedia, as I never see adults acting this way. Anyway, keep your Shahmukhi page. I'm too busy for it anyhow. I've been busy improving the Nasta'liq page (which is in much better shape than the Shahmukhi one, even you must admit, with history and everything.) Do what you want with your Shahmukhi. After all, you know everything, and you're the boss of it.Stallions2010 20:47, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Shahmukhi.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Shahmukhi.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. 82.83.109.169 11:08, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Shahmukhi.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Shahmukhi.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. 82.83.109.169 11:08, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
License tagging for Image:Mar-t.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Mar-t.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 01:05, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Urdu Wikipedia
[edit]Dear friend,
You seem to be an active Wikipedian from Pakistan. We have an Urdu Wikipedia that needs all the help that it can get. Currently, we do not have many active users and we will really appreciate if you would consider becoming an active contributor. As you are already familiar with Wikipedia's style and rules, your presence would help elevate the overall content quality as well.

request for support
[edit]Asalamalikum Dear Wikipedian,
I'm Hooperag, a fellow Wikipedian of yours and a fellow Muslim of yours. In this email I would like to ask for your support in my efforts to bring proper respect to Prophet Muhammad and the religion of Islam in Wikipedia articles.
Recently I have been working on articles about religious figures of Islam like Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.), and Imam Hussain ibn Ali (a.s.), in these articles have added appropriate terms for their respect like changing "Muhammad" to "Prophet Muhammad" and such... As in Islam we are obliged to mention these people’s names with respect, this must also reflect in text.
Unfortunately, however some Wikipedia editors are undoing all these efforts with the claim that such honorary prefixes are biased and violating of Wikipedia’s neutrality. This however could not be farther from the truth.
There are 1.6 billion Muslims on this planet, over 23% of the world’s total population. Tens of thousands of Wikipedia editors are Muslims and hundreds of thousands of Wikipedia readers are Muslims. With so many Muslims how can we let our beloved prophet and his companions be disrespected on the world’s largest encyclopedia?
Wikipedia claims they maintain such a policy to support freedom of speech and fight censorship. However I say that this gives no right for disrespect towards 1.6 billion humans’ prophet and religion. If we are to let things continue like this we will only find our religion and prophet further disrespected on Wikipedia in the coming times.
Things don’t need to be this way. I request your support as a fellow Muslim to voice your support for the usage of respectful terminology regarding the religion of Islam and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on Wikipedia.
Please visit the following link: [Link] and visit the section titled “Request for Respect of our Religion and our Prophet”. Once you are there comment and voice your support!
Please pass this message to as many Wikipedians as you know!
WaalaikumSalam
