Blocked again
[edit]I am still being blocked from my IP address, despite my requests for editing privileges. I regret that my contributions to Wikipedia will be very limited. Axl (talk) 18:47, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Barnstar
[edit]Thanks for the barnstar. Hope you get that IP discrepancy resolved soon. Where are your requests for unblocking? I couldn't find any in your contribs. — C M B J 23:30, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
- Here and above here. Axl (talk) 16:47, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm a little confused since I've never encountered a block. It was my understanding that IP blocks did not prevent registered users from contributing. Could you provide details? — C M B J 02:00, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- Despite being logged in, I couldn't edit because the whole IP address range was blanket blocked. The reason given was "Massive sockpuppetry and abuse". Now, the problem seems to have disappeared, although I don't know why. Axl (talk) 09:47, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I've implemented the changes you suggested. I noticed however that I was an hour or so too late and you've already failed the article. I've been hard pressed to find time to edit recently and as the main contributor to the article, it wasn't likely to progress without my input. Since the changes you asked for were in fact very minor, I was wondering if we could skip the queue especially since it had to wait about a month for a review in the first place? (Only if you believe that article passes GA criteria of course) Thanks for your time. Nev1 (talk) 16:01, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- I have delisted this article due to issues with criterion #3 of WP:WIAGA. My comments are at Talk:City of Salford#GA delisted; but in short, the history and geography sections are far too short and not comprehensive enough for a city of 200,000+, and the article lacks a 'media' section. Other than this missing info, I think it's reasonably good, and if the city was a very small town, it would probably be acceptable; but as it stands, it does not meet the criteria. The article has been referred back to WP:GAN, on hold status, so it wasn't failed outright. Dr. Cash (talk) 18:54, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
joining the ranks of the admins
[edit]Thank you
[edit]Thank you for participating in my RfA, which passed with a final count of 42 supporting, 2 opposing and 2 neutral. I would like to thank Keeper76 especially for the great nomination. I look forward to assist the project and its community as an administrator. Thanks again, Cenarium Talk 00:43, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Blocked
[edit]Sigh. I'm blocked again. Axl (talk) 17:32, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- Leave it with me, I'll try and sort it for you. Ryan Postlethwaite 18:11, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- In fact, have you got the IP range? That would help a lot, it should say it in the block message - feel free to email me with it if you want. Ryan Postlethwaite 18:12, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- I've given you an IP block exemption - can you edit now? Ryan Postlethwaite 18:15, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

- Thanks, Ryan. Whatever you did, it worked. :-) Axl (talk) 19:31, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
Good news! :) Ryan granted your account an exemption from IP blocking. This will allow you to edit through full blocks affecting your IP address when you are logged in.
Please read the page Wikipedia:IP block exemption carefully, especially the section on IP block exemption conditions.
Note in particular that you are not permitted to use this newly-granted right to edit Wikipedia via anonymous proxies, or disruptively. If you do, or there is a serious concern of abuse, then the right may be removed by any administrator.
We hope this will enhance your editing, and allow you to edit successfully and without disruption. -- lucasbfr talk 06:10, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
Adminship nomination
[edit]Would you be interested in a nomination for adminship? Although I don't know you personally, judging from your contributions I think you'd make a great admin. --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 09:35, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- Well you certainly have several contributions in WP:AIV, but if you're not particularly interested in vandal fighting/XfD/... then there would indeed be little use in it. And after all you could probably do more improving medical articles than doing those other tasks. Let me know if you have a change of heart :-) --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 19:20, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- Very much appreciated, thank you. --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 20:17, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
Barnstar
[edit][1] Thanks! Darkspots (talk) 11:00, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks a lot!
[edit]Thanks a lot for the "E=mc2" barnstar. I have kept my status as medical student with full awareness as most of the medical students (especially from urban regions) in India require to do some postgraduation course before they can practically begin their careers. I've completed the MBBS course, also got the permanent registration (License) to practice, but as of now am mostly studying for the entrance exams as the competition is fierce—a selection ratio of approximately 1:50 (all those who appear for the exams are qualified MBBS doctors!). Moreover, nowadays, people require to do some kind of superspecialization too before they are absorbed into some corporate hospital or can start their own private practice.
So, keeping all these things in mind, I refrain from identifying myself as doctor or physician. Fortunately, I'd got very good clinical exposure during my internship (lasts for one year), so wouldn't really feel guilty if I've to identify myself as doctor.
Hope you won't find my reply excessively long or personal.
Regards.

Ascending cholangitis
[edit]Thanks for your comments. I have addressed as many as I could. Two main questions:
- When describing SIRS I focused on the clinical symptoms. Do you insist on using the official criteria?
- Could you explain the need for using last and first in citation templates?
Cheers. JFW | T@lk 22:33, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks
[edit]for the barnstar. I'm happy about the unexpected gift. However, I don't know what article or Wiki space is related to the barnstar and how you would know about me. Could tell me? Thanks--Caspian blue (talk) 13:20, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- Haha, that makes sense. Have a good day. --Caspian blue (talk) 15:25, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
RfA thanks
[edit]Thank you for your support in my recent RfA, which closed successfully. I felt the process was a thorough review of my contributions and my demeanor, and I was very gratified to see how many editors took the time to really see what I'm about and how I can be of help to the project. As a result, some editors changed their views during the discussion, and most expressed specific, detailed points to indicate their opinion (whether it was , , or ).
A number of editors were concerned about my level of experience. I was purposeful in not waiting until a particular benchmark occurred before requesting adminship, because I feel - as many do - that adminship is not a reward and that each case is individual. It is true that I am not the most experienced editor around here, but I appreciate that people dug into my contributions enough to reach the conclusion that I seem to have a clue. Also, the best thing about this particular concern is that experience is something an editor - or administrator - can always get more of, and I'll continue doing that, just as I've been doing. (If I seem a little slow at it, feel free to slap me.)
I am a strong believer in the concept that this project is all about the content, and I'm looking forward to contributing wherever I can. Please let me know if I can be of any help. In the meantime, I'm off to school...
Thanks again!

[edit]For your input in ascending cholangitis. Would you have a minute to look at the FAC for subarachnoid hemorrhage? JFW | T@lk 20:59, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your typically thorough copyedit of SAH. Delldot has addressed some of your points on the FAC and I have taken care of most of the others. I'm eagerly awaiting your support vote :-).
- And no, I have never worked in Southampton but Paul Grundy is on DNUK. I was quite pleased that he was willing to offer an external peer review - IMHO this is crucial for any medical article being considered for FA. JFW | T@lk 23:35, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
Thank you!

Wikipedia Study
[edit]Hi,
I need your help. I am working on a research project at Boston College, studying creation of medical information on Wikipedia. You are being contacted, because you have been identified as an important contributor to one or more articles.
Would you will be willing to answer a few questions about your experience? We've done considerable background research, but we would also like to gather the insight of the actual editors. Details about the project can be found at the user page of the project leader, geraldckane. Survey questions can be found at geraldckane/medsurvey. Your privacy and confidentiality will be strictly protected!
The questions should only take a few minutes. I hope you will be willing to complete the survey, as we do value your insight. Please do not hesitate to contact me or Professor Kane if you have any questions.
Thank You, Sam4bc (talk) 19:03, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

Axl, it is my honor to report that thanks in part to your support my third request for adminship passed (80/18/2). I appreciate the trust you and the WP community have in me, and I will endeovour to put my newly acquired mop and bucket to work for the community as a whole. Yours sincerly and respectfuly, TomStar81 (Talk) 03:34, 9 July 2008 (UTC) |
How silly of me, of course I'd love to get you to review it. But I plan to add a bit more info, would you be willing to look at it (again) after I do? Thanks a ton Axl, I've really appreciated your help and support with the article. Peace, delldot on a public computer talk 18:10, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Sure, no problem. Axl (talk) 07:04, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
- Hey again, I think I'm ready for that review now, if you're still interested. I added the sections and info requested by other reviewers. Thanks again! delldot talk 15:47, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks so much for taking the time to do such thorough reviews, you've improved the article immensely. Is there any more coming, or is that it? If you're done, do you think it's ready for FAC? I think I want to go ahead and take it there. Peace, delldot talk 13:51, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
