Conflict of interest policy
[edit]Hello, AxelHellinger. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you have an external relationship with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.
All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.
If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:
- Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
- Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
- Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.
Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.
For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. --Ronz (talk) 19:52, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Ronz, I can't see a violation of the wiki guidline or something similar. I am writing and editing under my real name here. So everybody can see a connection and I informed everybody on the talk site about my plan and the connection between my site and me and after I didnt hear any negative feedback I worked on this article. And I am still thinking, that this link is giving wiki user, who are interested in this topic, a source to step deeper into this topic. AxelHellinger (talk) 06:06, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
- The conflict of interest policy has changed substantially since you started this account. You are in a situation where you absolutely must declare your coi. --Ronz (talk) 14:49, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
Sorry, I still don't get, what you mean. Can you tell it clearly AxelHellinger (talk) 15:11, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
- I'll try. Did you find WP:FCOI? It says, "If you have a close financial relationship with a topic you wish to write about – including as an owner, employee, contractor or other stakeholder – you are advised to refrain from editing affected articles. You may suggest changes on the talk page of affected articles, where you should disclose your COI." Basically, you should say something about your having a coi whenever you suggest adding material which you should not be adding yourself because of your conflict of interest, such as suggesting that a link to your website be added to an article. --Ronz (talk) 00:33, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
Ronz, which COI FCOI you are talking about. What exactly should be written where? Please don't talk around. I wrote on my page about my profession, my site whatever. On the talk page of ODR I pointed out, that I made this side. I suggested my List of ODR because the site of odr.info is not updated regular. (It was the only reason, why I started to make my own list). So which financial interest you see exactly and how does it harm wikipedia. AxelHellinger (talk) 14:27, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry, but I don't think we are understanding each other, and I'm at a loss as what to do at this step. I suggest getting someone else to help you. --Ronz (talk) 15:49, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
No, ronz, I just think, you have a very critical point of view. So I asked you, where you see this COI violation exactly. If you think, that I hurt the guideline of WP, then tell me where exactly. It is natural, that an author is not too objective about his own articles. But what else I should do than writing on the "talk" page of ODR, that I wrote this article on my own and wait for feedback from the community. And if you check the suggested link, you must admit, that it shows a plan, neutral list. And I know, that this list is useful, because I see the backlinks to it and the copies, which appeared among my colleagues. So, one more time, where is your problem? AxelHellinger (talk) 16:20, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
- All I did was notify you of the changes in WP:COI, so you would be aware that edits like [1] are considered even less appropriate than previously, and that you should be clearer about your conflict of interest when discussing it in the future. --Ronz (talk) 19:33, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
