Repackaged Cliff Richard album All My Love

[edit]

Someone has referenced the Discogs site for this album which is incorrect in it's changes from the "Cliff Richard - Cliff Richard" album unless it refers to a different pressing from the UK album (MFP 1420) I have.

The track listing on my copy is:-

Side 1

  1. "Angel" (Tepper/Bennett), but this track is not listed on the LP label or the sleeve notes. There are definitely 7 tracks on side 1.
  2. "Sway (Gimbel/Ruiz)
  3. "I Only Came To Say Goodbye" (Grant/Guthrie)
  4. "Take Special Care" (Welch/Marvin)
  5. "Magic In The Moonlight" (Pasquale/Grever)
  6. "House Without Windows" (Tobias/Pockriss)
  7. "Razzle Dazzle" (Calhoun)

Side 2 (only 6 tracks)

  1. "All My Love (Solo Tu)" (Arduini/Peter Calander)
  2. "I Don't Wanna Love You" (Mann/Weil)
  3. "You Belong To My Heart" (Gilbert/Lara)
  4. "Again" (Cochran/Newman)
  5. "Perfida" (Leeds/Dominguez)
  6. "Reelin' And Rockin'" (Berry)

All tracks produced 1965 except "All My Love" produced 1967.

I am relatively new to Wiki and don't want to try to edit what is an excellent entry.

Delangle9 (talk) 23:41, 1 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Delangle for the information and welcome to Wikipedia! I looked up other sources including the fan club magazine Dynamite International which included the track-listing in the Apr/May 1971 edition. Angel is not included there, or in other sources, and given that it is not listed on the cover, I think we can safely say it is not meant to be included on the album. So it sounds like your copy is a mispressing and possibly quite rare! Mind you, I don't have a copy of the album myself, so I stand to be corrected by others who do have a copy. It'll Be Me (Jerry Lee Lewis song)

[edit]

Hi. I am completely disagree with your edit of It'll Be Me (Jerry Lee Lewis song). Please see the title of this page (and comprehend it).

Why an information about a cover performance of this song by an other artist and about this artist himself should constitute 80% of this article?

If you want add this information to Wikipedia, you can add it to any appropriate article concerning Cliff Richard. Here is no place for that.

Best regards. RocknRollArchivist (talk) 08:48, 26 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

From a Distance: The Event

[edit]

Hi. I've seen on Cliff Richard's Stronger page that you've suggested the creation of a From a Distance: The Event page. I'd wondered a while ago about starting one but never got round to it. Are you planning on creating it? Or I can - although my initial page creations aren't exactly perfect so it would require some polishing post-creation and further added info. --Geach (talk) 13:46, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Geach. Sure, go ahead and create it - that would be great! Create as many of the albums as you like. I have quite limited time for wiki editing and so prefer to stick to adding the info that others don't have information on. My advice would be (maybe you know this already, if so apologies!) to try to find good examples with the sections already in them (or mix and match), eg I'm just now adding the certifications section to Private Collection: 1979–1988 album, which I took from The Fabulous Rock 'n' Roll Songbook. BTW, I've seen your name around the place doing some good editing on Cliff's stuff, thanks for that! -- AusChartMan (talk) 14:06, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'll create the page shortly and will let you know when I have so you can then add your influence to it. I can usually bring a new album article up to a decent standard but I often miss something important out, or reference it incorrectly! I'm mainly into 80s and 90s chart music and Cliff always seemed to have a single or album in the UK charts during that time, some of which I remember fondly and have a number of those singles and albums in my record and CD collections. But that material often gets overlooked and forgotten about compared with his more popular earlier stuff, which reflects in the Wikipedia pages that I try to improve. And From a Distance: The Event certainly fits into my editing era of interest! --Geach (talk) 22:04, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
From a Distance: The Event is now created! I've left it to you to add chart positions and certifications etc. if that's okay. The infobox needs more input too - check that the 'next' album is correct as I'm not 100% sure. Feel free to improve any of the stuff I've added and add anything else I've missed out. I'll add an album cover soon unless you want to. :-) Oh, I also notice there's a 2CD version which you may want to add to the track listing. --Geach (talk) 17:58, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Geach! I've added quite a bit more this weekend. There is quite a bit of background and other info that could be added about this album as 'The Event' concert was the culmination Cliff's 1970/80's peaks, playing his biggest show under his own name and going further to bring something new to many of his hits (although some of the best songs didn't make it onto the original album). On top of that he revived his 'Oh Boy' rock'n'roll roots and had a Shadows set, and a collection of other notable artists. This all takes time though and I still have to dig up more references. Just for your info, one of my aims was to get all Cliff's mainstream 70's-to-now album-pages created, so that they can be sequentially clicked through using the Infobox's 'Next Album' link. Just thinking out loud, maybe there should be a Cliff project page like wiki editors created for Elvis years ago, because there is just so much Cliff stuff generally. Like you say, Cliff's 80's singles have barely been touched. I worked on his 50's/60's stuff too, although it is way before my time, as it is important to have his early stuff properly recognised as he was the UK's biggest artist before the Beatles arrived, and his significance in that period has been depreciated in some quarters of the music media. FYI, "my time" = Wired for Sound onwards, although I particularly like the stuff before it (generally 76 onwards) and I appreciate the 50's / 60's these days, particularly the better rock'n'roll stuff. Cliff was very good at the ballads too, but unfortunately Norrie Paramor had a bit too much influence on toning down Cliff's rock'n'roll side that was his original passion. Cheers. -- AusChartMan (talk) 16:37, 11 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for all that. I'm only a casual follower of Cliff's career but I have always liked him. I received the 7" single of "Saviour's Day" for Christmas 1990 (which I still have) and remember the little picture on the back advertising From a Distance: The Event. I don't own the album but would buy the CD if I saw it for cheap enough as I'm always buying old CDs and records! So it's interesting reading all the info you've added about the album and was surprised a while back when I saw there was no page for it. I see there isn't one for his latest album either and was hoping someone else would create it as it's always quite a lengthy process and the content of that album doesn't quite excite me enough to do it! I'm usually found editing album pages but I'm certainly happy to do bits of editing on Cliff's mid 80s to turn of the Millennium singles. By the way, I see it's not on the album, but is the video for the Stock Aitken Waterman-produced "I Just Don't Have the Heart" filmed at 'The Event' concert? There's no mention of it on that song's page but it would have been released as a single around the time of that concert. --Geach (talk) 23:42, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Geach. Yes, the "Just Don't Have the Heart" music video is from The Event (and yes it would be worth being mentioned on its page). It was the next single after the two concerts. I was disappointed with the song actually, I felt both the music and lyrics fell quite a bit short of SAW's best tracks. But I thought "Stronger than that" and its 7" & 12" remixes were pretty good. The "Lean on You 12" remix is also really good if you've never heard it. It was a pity "Stronger than that" wasn't released in Australia earlier because Australian radio which was more rock-pop oriented at the time, wouldn't play the SAW track, and it held back the success of the Stronger album down here. Hey thanks for your help on getting the From a Distance album page going. Just looking again at what I did on the weekend, it needs a bit more refinement yet. I'm not sure when I'll get back to it at the moment with Christmas and everything coming up but I will sometime. --AusChartMan (talk) 05:16, 17 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. "Just Don't Have the Heart" is on the 2005 release of the From a Distance album, but it is much the same as the single. IMO, the 2005 album release is the better version if you come across it, with cracking live versions of Two Hearts, Remember Me, Stronger than that, Good Golly Miss Molly, Move It and a number of the other tracks. --AusChartMan (talk) 05:16, 17 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Cliff Richard discography

[edit]

Hi, since you seem to be quite active on the Cliff Richard discography page, I thought I'd let you know that I've changed some of the Australian chart peaks listed on it - removed singles that didn't enter the ARIA top 100, added a couple of ARIA peaks that weren't previously listed ('I Just Don't Have the Heart' and 'Saviour's Day'), and replaced the Kent Report peak with an ARIA peak for 'The Best of Me'. I'll modify these on the individual pages for these singles, too. I also created a single reference list for Australian singles and albums chart peaks.Nqr9 (talk) 00:53, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've also added citation needed tags for the ARIA platinum certification claim for 'Always Guaranteed'. There is no certification listed on the ARIA website, and none in Gavin Ryan's 1988-2010 chart book. David Kent's books do not contain ARIA certifications (though sometimes other users dubiously cite these books for them). Also, platinum in Australia was 100k before 1989, making the claim even more questionable.Nqr9 (talk) 01:20, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your contribution Nqr9. I really appreciate you leaving me a message of explanation and entering good edit summaries. Thank you for the addition of low ARIA chart positions, I don't have access to them and had only recently discovered Gavin Ryan's book, but had not yet had time to access it. I agree the ARIA chart positions are 'official' and take precedence over Kent's (regardless of which is more accurate, although I can't say either way). The reference list for Aus albums and singles looks good.
Regarding the ARIA accreditation (as they call them), I inquired directly with ARIA and received an email response listing Cliff Richard's accreditation list (1988 onwards). 'Always Guaranteed' was indeed accredited Platinum in April 1988 (after peaking at no. 6 and charting for 27 weeks over 1987/88, primarily before ARIA took over the official charts). I've emailed them again asking if I can get something from them to show this on the internet for verification purposes. Anyway, I added the accreditation details using the standard Template:Cite_certification. The template's documentation, in the 'Supported Region' table and the 'Notes' column, indicates it shows Australian certification pre-1997 by displaying text-only without a URL link. Although it is not verifiable, it is ready if and when ARIA get around to loading earlier years of accreditations, and gives the reader an indication of when it was accredited. It is frustrating for those of us interested in Australian music industry certification history that earlier information is yet to be published in an easy to access resource. It is good that Gavin Ryan did published 1988 onwards, but in the case of this album, I expect it was omitted because the album was released and charted primarily before ARIA took over the 'official' chart publishing, and Ryan likely didn't have the rights to publish the Kent chart information. Also, from documents I've seen, only platinum for singles was 100k before 1989 or 1983 (not sure on year, I would have to check this out further, as I think I've seen both mentioned), while platinum for albums have been 70k since 1983. See ARIA Charts#ARIA certifications and List of best-selling albums in Australia. If you've got any good references to enhance that particular info, please do add them. AusChartMan (talk) 17:01, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I've taken screen-shots of an ARIA emails I've received and used these as a reference, after anonymising them (though the first 1 or 2 I hadn't yet worked out how to do that) and uploading them to the image-hosting site imgur.com. It would be great if you could do the same for the ARIA email you received - if you don't know how to anonymise it, I could either do it for you (my User page has a link where you can email me directly) or explain how to do it. I use the eraser function on http://www194.lunapic.com/editor/ to remove text from the screen-shot - here's an example of one I've done: http://i.imgur.com/9ehjEFX.gif , leaving the aria.com.au email ending and signature intact (I didn't want to leave the full email so they don't get inundated with requests) to show that it is from an 'official' source. The screen-shot I used for the "I Just Don't Have the Heart" peak was forwarded to me from another chart follower who contacted ARIA, but unfortunately he didn't forward the whole email he received, so I couldn't quite do the same. ARIA have not to date published positions 51-100 from when they commenced producing the chart in-house (the chart dated 20th June 1988/week ending 26th June 1988) until the start of the ARIA Report (14 January 1990), and unfortunately Gavin Ryan wasn't able to get this information to include in his books, although positions from the annual top 100 chart for 1989 are listed (as this was published in the first ARIA Report). However, a word of caution - Gavin Ryan has the wrong chart info for the 1991 end of year chart in his books (it differs significantly from the chart published at the time, and e.g. there are 2 different #1 albums listed, which differ to the #1 album of the year at the time). Also, some certifications from between 1988-1990 are missing in the book. But likewise, some certifications are missing from the ARIA website on their annual charts in the early years - I've seen missing certs as late as the 1992 annual chart.Nqr9 (talk) 02:59, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the info. I haven't heard back from ARIA yet, so if I don't I will do that. I'll let you know what transpires. I was going to load it into Wikipedia's Commons area, but it requires getting permission from the source, so I thought I'd try. Thanks for the heads up on Gavin Ryan's book errors. Gavin Ryan is easy to find on Facebook if you want to let him know what you've found. The biggest blooper I've seen on ARIA accreditation list is Michael Buble's Christmas album, which earnt double-Diamond in 2016 for one million sales, but is listed as double-Platinum! As their flagship accreditation, and the first to be awarded double-Diamond, I would have thought they would have made sure it is correct. I'll have to try remember to let them know if I hear back from them. AusChartMan (talk) 14:57, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Nqr9, See here for the cert for Cliff's Always Guaranteed album: "Cliff Richard Australian Certifications". I had to pare the thing right back, there was way too much in it. AusChartMan (talk) 15:37, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for pinging me for this, interesting! ARIA sometimes take a while (months) to get back, but always do in the end.Nqr9 (talk) 00:33, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Songs from Heathcliff

[edit]

Hi. I've started a Cliff Songs from Heathcliff album page if you want to improve or add anything to it! A better explanation of "The Wedding" may be needed if you know anything further about it. --Geach (talk) 00:22, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Geach, it looks all good to me. Thanks for that! Cheers. --AusChartMan (talk) 08:13, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I thought the album itself needed its own page away from the musical and I managed to piece together the few bits of info I could find to create what has turned out to be a better article than I expected! --Geach (talk) 12:14, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Geach, I've updated the intro further. I just didn't think the second sentence worked even though I get that you were trying to get it to flow better so the sentences didn't start and stop abruptly. See what you think now. I also had wanted to add something about the "period music" for a while but hadn't worked out how to describe it, so I worked something out when I realised that the genre is valid in the lead of the article (I added the Wikipedia ref in the change notes). But you were right, the genre wasn't in a usual/good location so I agreed with your edit to remove it from where it was. AusChartMan (talk) 16:19, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
D'ya know, that has been bothering me for ages! Each time I saw it I thought it didn't read quite right, then I reworded it a while back yet still wasn't satisfied but couldn't think of a way to improve it further. What you've done is much better. Never worry about editing anything I've done, it's the whole point of Wikipedia. Yes, I reverted those newly added genres as the anonymous editor hadn't really put them in the right place, but your explanation of the genres is a good addition as this album was notably different to other stuff by Cliff, in theme and style. I have to admit that I'd never heard of the "Historically informed performance" style of music before though, but thanks to Wikipedia consider me now educated about it! --Geach (talk) 17:57, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Together with Cliff Richard

[edit]

Hello again. I've created an article for the Together with Cliff Richard Christmas album if you want to have a look at it and add anything else/improve what I've done. I was going to add a charts section (it reached #10 in the UK and I think it charted in New Zealand) but you'd do a better job with the formatting and stuff! Thanks. --Geach (talk) 22:09, 21 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know who wrote the track "Christmas Never Comes" on Together with Cliff Richard? It's the only one I can't find a writer for, other than "O Come All Ye Faithful", whose historic writer seems to be fairly ambiguous.--Geach (talk) 02:05, 26 December 2017 (UTC)\[reply]
Yes, it's Paul Field (Christian singer) as per [[1]]. There's a bit about him on Crossrythm.co.uk, here [[2]]. By the way, thanks for putting that page together! I hope you had a good Christmas! AusChartMan (talk) 05:43, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that! That's interesting as I recently finally acquired Cliff's From a Distance: The Event CD from a charity shop (collecting mainly 80s and 90s pop CDs and records for cheap is one of my hobbies) and I'd noticed the track "Fighter"/"Thief in the Night" was written by a 'Kendrick' - who I presumed to be Christian musician Graham Kendrick - and a 'Field', that I didn't know who it was, and it turns out it's this same Paul Field. I'd add songwriters to the tracks on From a Distance, but I think they'd make all those medley tracks look a bit messy. I'm on a bit of a Cliff Richard roll at the moment (probably because it's Christmas!) and I've got another Cliff album article creation planned for the next few days so I'll keep you posted. I think the singles "Some People" and "My Pretty One" possibly need their own Wikipedia articles as they were fairly big hits here in the UK at least if you fancy creating one or both of them at some point - I'd do it but I'm not so used to creating singles articles! They both currently redirect to the Always Guaranteed album. --Geach (talk) 15:14, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't had a listen to much of Paul Field's own music, but I'll have to have a listen as he's written some really good material I think. I'll be particularly interested in the early Network 3 and Nutshell stuff, it sounds intriguing. I've always loved the Thief in the Night track. By the way, if you haven't heard it, the 2005 version of the From a Distance album with all the live tracks of Cliff's set has live versions of "Two Hearts" and "Remember Me" that I reckon are better there than the originals (the live band being better than the Alan Tarney's programming that can get somewhat robotic). Some other good tracks are there too - they'll all be on YouTube anyway. I agree about pages for the singles, the next one I was actually going to look at doing is Wired for Sound. I like to try and get sequences of singles/albums going so people can click through the chronology easily. So it was good to get Together done, next one in the sequence is probably The Hit List or the album from 2000, but I find the compilations a bit laborious. You do whatever you feel inspired to do though, any help is appreciated, there is so much still to do. AusChartMan (talk) 26 December 2017 (UTC)
It was The Hit List that I was considering creating! I was quite surprised there wasn't already an article for it as it was a popular compilation here and I remember it being promoted at the time of release. As you say though, multi-disc compilation articles can be a bit tiring to create but I enjoy seeing the results when they're up to scratch. But yes, it's good when you can click through an artist's singles or albums and it was upon creating Together with Cliff Richard that I realised The Hit List was missing. I'm actually shocked there's no article for "Wired for Sound" as people still talk about that song - and video! My version of From a Distance is the original one with tracks edited out but I have been watching bits and pieces of the concert on Youtube since I started the article a while back. I've always preferred his version of the title track to Bette Midler's, the only other version of the song I know. I think it's just that bit more interesting. --Geach (talk) 17:27, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Real as I Wanna Be

[edit]

Hi. Can you add a charts, year-end and certifications section to Cliff's Real as I Wanna Be please? It seems to be his only (later) album which doesn't have one and I was about to add a basic charts section but thought you'd do a better complete job! --Geach (talk) 23:54, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You're not being bi

[edit]

I could not resist the double entendre, but WP:BIDIRECTIONAL states that "every article [in] a given navbox should normally also be included as a link in the navbox so that the navigation is bidirectional." You recently added a a number of entries to Template:Cliff Richard, but it does not yet appear on those articles. Also, if the subject does not have an article, it should not be listed in the template as one cannot navigate to it. I have removed the non-article entries. Thanks for your efforts. The Cliff Richard Collection

[edit]

Hi, I'm just going through the Cliff Richard albums and have come across the 1991 Australia-charting The Cliff Richard Collection, but I can't find any information about this release online. Do you have the Gavin Ryan or David Kent chart books, and if so, is any more information such as the catalogue number listed? If not, I'm wondering if, given the chart dates, the charting album actually refers to Together with Cliff Richard. Thanks, DPUH (talk) 23:09, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
The album you are speaking of is a 5 x CD box set, it is not related to the Together album. I have a copy of it.
Here's an ebay link to the original release:
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/203604716448?chn=ps&_ul=AU&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1ODr4LN3fQlGgNYm1g2qWcA22&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-139619-5960-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=203604716448&targetid=&device=m&mktype=pla&googleloc=9069278&poi=&campaignid=15984321586&mkgroupid=&rlsatarget=&abcId=9300814&merchantid=109789281&gclid=CjwKCAiA7IGcBhA8EiwAFfUDsTZQDrc3ZDq6G4MYxYDhWM1l7-PlDtR9_QVBPxBdJbt97k9RdanxYxoCyCoQAvD_BwE#SellerPresenceViewModel
Note - The main box cover images are correct but some of the album cover pictures included in the link are wrong - whoever loaded them got them confused.
Here's a link to the second edition of the album (released 1997), that has a restylised box cover:
2nd edition: https://www.discogs.com/release/24959491-Cliff-Richard-The-Cliff-Richard-Collection/image/SW1hZ2U6ODU1MzMxODc=
I have a snapshot of Cliff's pages of Kent's charts. I think I have one of Ryan's too. Catalogue numbers are on the back of the box in the images of the links.
Cheers, AusChartMan (talk) 14:58, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that's great, thanks for all the info, DPUH (talk) 23:03, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Silver

[edit]

Hi. On Cliff's Silver album I've added songwriters to the Rock 'n' Roll Silver tracks which I found on photos of the LP's labels on Discogs (my original CD version doesn't include all these tracks!). It only gives an initial for the first names, but all the songwriters were easy enough to figure out who they were other than the M Griffiths on "Makin' History". On the Wikipedia track listing for Cliff's following album The Rock Connection the same track is only listed as being written by Graham Lyle. Can you clarify who exactly the writer(s) is/are for this song?! Feel free to add or remove the name yourself if you wish. Geach (talk) 14:25, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Geach Hi, I just checked the original LP and you are correct, it is M Griffiths and G Lyle. It is Mark Griffiths who was in Cliff's band as bass player for a while before moving over to play with the Shadows. I hadn't realised he'd written any songs, but Makin' History was the only new song on the Rock n Roll Silver album. AusChartMan (talk) 17:33, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent, thanks for that! All added. Mark Griffiths has his own Wikipedia page too, which is always a bonus when constructing these things. --Geach (talk) 00:27, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
