Kelly Rowland - Talk a Good Game
[edit]When you go to iTunes, you can view the credits. You select "View" from the menu then > Column Browser > Show Column Browser. Then select Music > R&B/Soul > Contemporary R&B > Kelly Rowland > Talk a Good Game. You'll see it says that 10. "This is Love" was written by Kelly Rowland, Jeremy McArthur, Myariah "Jane Handcock" Summers and Thabiso Nkhereanye. Jeremy McArthur is Arthur McArthur's legal/birthname. Under this precedent we use whatever names the artist chooses to use in the album booklet, as the album booklet isn't available the next thing available is iTunes column browser. Also per Template:Track listing, once we've mentioned a person once, we refer to the them by their surname. That is why we don't write Kelly Rowland out every single time, we just say Rowland etc. So as Arthur McArthur has chosen to be credited as Jeremy McArthur we list this in the writer field and then in the producer field we list just McArthur. I hope that explains it. OK these rules don't make sense to me. "Arthur McArthur" is an alias. "Jeremy McArthur" is a birth name. They are two distinct names. Just because they share a word doesn't mean that it is applicable to use the short form. In the same way that you don't list "Michael L Williams II", you list "Mike Will Made It." According to your rules, shouldn't it then just say "M. Williams"?
That's why I keep changing it. "Arthur McArthur" is legally distinct from "Jeremy McArthur" which is why I feel it is inappropriate to use the short form.
In addition, the producers lists "James McArthur" instead of Arthur McArthur. I'm tired of making changes that you're going to keep reverting. Do you understand where I'm coming from?
- iTunes listes Arthur McArthur as Jeremy McArthur, hence in the writer field we should use per iTunes. As a producer Jeremy McArthur is usually listed as Arthur McArthur the whole point of using surnames is because if it is evident who we are referring to then the first name becomes redundant. Because the names Jeremy McArthur and Arthur McArthur share the same word as the surname, including Arthur in the producer bit would confuse the reader. By listing just McArthur in the producer field its evident who's being referred to. The reason for not listing Mike Will Made It as M.Williams is because there is already a Pharrell Williams and a Tyler Williams. Plus "Mike Will Made It" is different from Michael L. Williams (the two names don't share words) whereas Jeremy McArthur and Arthur McAthur share the same second word. Whilst you might feel that it is legally distinct in the world of academic writing wikipedia James McAthur and Arthur McArthur as significantly similar hence we will simply use McArthur.
